Motorcycle camping is always fun, but the best way to make motocamping even more enjoyable is to do it with great friends. On this trip, we meet up with McLovin Moto and Mike, plus Kris and Nathan from For the Love of Knobs. This was an insanely fun moto camping trip with friends, and we spent the whole night around the campfire just laughing and telling amazing stories about motorcycle adventures. We started out our motorcycle camping trip by meeting up with McLovin and then riding over to Mike's house. Mclovin and I are both riding our Honda Africa Twin adventure motorcycles, and Mike is riding a Suzuki DRZ400S dual sport. Together, we rode out into the wilderness and to our motocamping spot along the Alsea River, just up the road from Alsea Falls. After setting up our moto camping tents, we went out in search of firewood to cut and process, before starting a fire and cooking chicken and brats over the coals. Kris and Nathan showed up as we were eating dinner and Nathan promptly dumped his KTM 790 Adventure showing off in the muddy track leading to our motorcycle campsite. We spent the rest of this camping trip hanging out by the fire, laughing, and drinking coffee and packing up our moto camping gear in the morning before heading home.
So I'm about to head out, go moto camping with McLovin Moto and Chris and Nathan from For the Love of Nob.
So we're here. We made it. It's a little stingy. It's camping, dude.
I could set my beard on fire at any moment.
Very enjoyable evening. Lots of laughs and fun around the campfire.
Hello everyone and welcome back to the dork side. I'm the dork in the road.
Behind me is a fully loaded Africa Twin because I'm going moto camping again.
That's right everyone. I'm the dork in the road and I want to be your internet riding buddy.
So please consider subscribing. Don't forget to turn on those notifications so that you
don't miss future adventures just like this. So I'm about to head out,
go moto camping with McLovin Moto and Chris and Nathan from For the Love of Nob.
You probably can hear that plane flying over my house very loudly, I'm guessing.
Thanks plane. Super helpful. Don't you know I'm trying to shoot YouTube videos?
Someone needs to call the airport. But anyway, before I leave,
I thought I would just show you my setup on the bike. Just kind of how I loaded everything and
the bags I'm using and all that. So let's just take a look at the Africa Twin real quick.
This is my giant Luke Moto Fandango tank bag and my camera gear.
My new travel cigar case with built-in lighters in there.
My contact stuff I put in that bag. I froze last time. I don't know if you
saw the trip with Duck Fan. I'll put a link to it for you, but I was very cold.
So I'm taking my bigger, this is my Coleman Big Basin 15 degree bag.
So I bought a stuff sack for it and strapped it on with these rock straps.
This is a giant Luke Moto Trek pannier. These are 25 liter panniers. I have one on either side.
This is my giant Luke First Aid Possibles pouch and my first aid kit is in there. So
Possibles pouch is attached to the Moto Trek panniers with these
buckles right here. So pretty easy to put on there. And that way,
if something happens, either riding out there or even in camp,
first aid kit is easy. You know right where it is and it's easy to get to.
So I like that setup. This is my Tillamook dry bag. This is a 50 liter bag. It's enormous.
In fact, you can tell it's not even half full. I ran out of stuff to put in it.
I have so much storage. I've got a hundred liters of storage on this trip with this bag.
So this is the Tillamook bag. It's got an air bleed valve.
You can get into it from both sides, which I really like.
And then another Moto Trek pannier here on the other side, but that's my whole setup.
Looking forward to some dispersed wild camping. Found a really good spot
out by the Alsea River. So it's going to be awesome.
Thanks for coming along. Hope you enjoyed the video.
All right. Well, I filmed the whole thing at McLevin's house,
but I forgot to turn my camera on. So there he is getting gas.
I met up with him. This is a rare honor in Oregon to get to put my own gas.
So I'm just busy enough that they let me look at us having big boy adventures,
getting gas like adults. Right.
I showed you McLevin's setup in the bit I filmed, but you know,
it didn't actually get filmed, but yeah, it's exact same as mine.
Literally Moto Trek Tillamook Fandango
to a T. His Fandango is a slightly different color.
And so is his Tillamook bag. It's the older version.
Two hours later.
Oh, this is probably stupid, but it didn't look too bad until you hit that last part.
So my camera died at some point coming over the top.
I only have two videos, so I wonder if I got nothing.
So we just had a very interesting, very spirited ride.
And now we're at the campsite about an hour later.
And this is the fun entrance that will keep anyone else from coming in.
So I didn't want you guys to miss me riding this and crashing.
So here we go.
I'm feeling pretty good about my tires based on the ride in.
Mike's exploring the area and found a log to get his DRZ stuck on.
So you guys bought saws, right?
Dude, I don't know what you were talking about being worried about that.
Well, I took it like a baby.
Mike, can we come help you extricate yourself?
I'm high centered on the log.
So Mike was exploring the territory back here and
found an obstacle that even the DRZ can't overtake, overcome.
Yeah, I tried to hit this log off camber.
That sucks.
Oh, you dug yourself a little hole.
A little bit.
Maximum effort.
First drop, first drop.
Assuming line's working.
You good?
So you like the spot then?
Here, I'll put it over here where it's easier to get over.
It's nothing but the finest riding content.
You understand?
Here.
That's fun.
Good times.
So this is a campsite.
We're actually, I think, going to go back there a little more.
But love this site.
Pretty easy to get to.
Pretty sad you guys missed out on a very spirited ride in.
But I will put a link into McLovin's video.
So my guess is he'll have his up before I do.
So you can see what that looked like.
That's deep, bro.
See?
Oh god, I hope my camera is recording.
It is.
Yeah.
All right, so we're here.
We made it.
We're setting up camp.
I think this luxurious, semi-flat, mostly stick-covered spot is going to be where I'm
going to set my tent up.
I'm going to move all these sticks out of the way so you guys can watch me do that.
Ah, that thing.
It looks good.
What a good looking bike.
I don't remember which bag my tarp is in, but I know it's one of these.
Man, my stuff is dry and secure.
These bags did real good.
Yes, there it is.
Okay.
All right, tarp.
Which means now I actually have to clear the ground.
Let's see how into this I get before I decide it's good enough.
Tell me if I can get the sticks out of here.
I just don't want these poking a hole in the bottom of my tent.
I'll be able to avoid them all, but it's hard to tell.
Rainfly's on.
Air mattress time.
Okay, this is a thing I'm very excited about.
This is a Nemo Filo Luxury.
But this is supposed to be the best backpacking pillow in the world.
That's right.
No hyperbole.
It's got a memory foam top, integrated stuff sack, and it's enormous.
Look how big it is.
It's almost as thick as a regular pillow and about as long, just not as wide.
So I'm very excited.
I'll put a link to this in the description.
I'll let you know in the morning how I feel about it,
but my suspicion is I'm going to be very happy with it.
The real piece de resistance on this trip is my Coleman Big Basin 15.
Enormous, very warm sleeping bag.
I'm very excited to not freeze my *** off again tonight.
Look at this.
It's ginormous.
You could get in there with me.
Yes, let's do it.
Don't though.
Look at it.
It's huge.
Tent set up.
Now I'm going to go find some firewood.
And of course, I have to just put this in every video
because I just think this saw is so cool.
Agua Canyon Boreal 21.
Link in the description.
I don't normally wear my camelback around when I'm just trying to gather firewood,
but I'm trying to get my in-reach to send a signal,
a message to Nathan, and it doesn't want to do it under here.
So I thought maybe if I moved around a little, it might find a signal.
If not, I'll go out in the clear over there by the river.
Good, that means there'll be lots of sap on the end of this.
So we've been out this half an hour.
Decent little pile.
Oh, it is soggy down here.
The river is usually much higher, as you can tell.
What's this?
I think we'll get your thoughts and then we'll be good.
Oh yeah.
So that's a layer of the wet logs on the bottom and then dry logs on top
and then dry twigs with a fire starter on top.
So as the dry logs burn, it will dry out the wet logs on the bottom
and all the wet wood is closest to the fire.
That is tight fire.
Well done.
Do not enjoy Mr. Puff Puffs.
They're bad for you.
Or pipes.
Terrible.
Yes, these Mr. Puff Puffs.
But when you're camping by the fire, it doesn't hurt.
So, McLevin.
Yes, sir.
First motor camping trip on the Africa Twin.
How are you feeling right now?
My Giant League gear is flawless.
Yeah, mine too.
Very happy with it.
We bounced over a bunch of...
We went through puddles and bounced over rocks and no issues.
I have everything I need so far.
I haven't found anything I don't need.
I was able to bring the proper liquids.
Mixing the liquids as a mixologist.
Yeah, brought some soda.
I've got food.
We've got an awesome fire.
Mike made us an awesome fire.
Mike's crushing it in the fire department.
Giant loop for the win, by the way.
Just awesome.
Having a great time.
Can't beat it.
Fire's going well.
Spot's good.
Nathan and Chris are going to be here in an hour or two.
Once this burns down, I'm going to cook some chicken.
Theoretically, if it thaws.
If it doesn't, I'm going to cook frozen chicken and
then I'll overcook it because I'll be super paranoid about whether or not it's still frozen inside.
Like I was saying in the last video, this is what I love about camping.
There's a lot of work at first, right?
You come in, you set up your tent, blah, blah, blah.
You harvest firewood.
We probably spent an hour pulling some firewood.
But then there's nothing else to do, man.
Other than cook dinner and eat it.
Let me give you a little tour of the area.
This is a big expansive campsite.
There's actually probably three sites here, really.
We took the one farthest back.
Okay, so let's go on a walk.
Here's my tent.
If it were raining, this would be the worst possible way I could have configured that tarp.
But I just set it up so I have a little porch to take my boots off and stuff.
Normally, you don't want to do this because that would catch all the rain and just
funnel it all right under my tent.
But it's not going to rain, he said.
Hopefully.
And then my bike is right here.
And then the DRZ.
Obviously, you can see it.
There's McLovin's bike.
And then Mike wisely has set himself up all the way over here.
He doesn't want to deal with us.
That's a great spot.
It's a real flat spot you found.
Mike's there in his tent.
And then trying not to get crazy with the pans.
This is McLovin's bike and his REI Half Dome Other Africa Twin tent.
That's McLovin.
He's doing McLovin things.
What's up?
Wearing his giant LeBron shirt.
And then the fire is here.
I think we left ample space for Chris and Nathan to find a spot to set up.
So here's the fire.
I'll give you an idea of what it looks like from here.
So you kind of get the wide shot.
Pretty cool.
Tusk compact camp chairs.
Got the wet wood drying out around the fire.
And then the river is right down here.
I showed you already.
But just so you can see proximity-wise what we're talking about.
So it's normally a lot higher than it is right now.
But there you go.
There's the river.
I'll catch up with you when we start cooking.
Gonna try to thaw and cook some semi-frozen chicken over the fire.
All right.
Chicken is on the fire.
I'm gonna season it.
That's right.
Kicking chicken spices.
Yeah, I accidentally brought four.
So McLovin's gonna have to help me eat these.
That one's gonna burn.
I need to move it.
Oh yeah.
Didn't spray this with Crisco or whatever.
Well, I'm just gonna grill the chicken and then I've got barbecue sauce.
I'll just dip it in.
I just flipped the chicken.
Forgot to record it.
It's a little stingy.
McLovin is just cooking some brats.
They're also getting a little stingy.
Camp cooking is never perfect.
And that's part of the charm.
Also, my chicken's just a little frozen inside.
So it's never perfect, but it's gonna be good.
And I'm gonna eat it and I'm gonna love every bite of it.
So coals are good, except where they're flames.
Hey, hey, hey, hey, get off there.
You'll notice I gave McLovin the good side of the grill.
Oh, I don't want that one, dude.
Oh no.
That's like a marshmallow.
A little bit of charred meat never hurt anyone.
Or maybe it did.
I don't know.
I'm excited to eat it.
So is McLovin excited?
Yes.
Got a few drinks.
I'm giggly.
Giggly.
He's McGiggling it.
McGiggles.
McLovin generously donated the sausage abroad to me.
So I'm gonna eat it.
It's a little stingy because we had some flames, but it's camping, dude.
It's camping.
Thanks for the crusty dog.
You're welcome.
McLovin is making beans.
And he's afraid to touch it.
So he's holding it with his croc feet.
Look at his freaking camping gear attire.
I steered you wrong.
They're actually, they're good.
So that's pretty good broth.
What is it?
Chipotle and there's some kind of cheese in there, right?
Yeah.
I don't even mind the singe.
All right.
Well, this one's mostly done.
What do you guys want?
Or should I take it?
Go for it.
I'll take the singiest one since I'm the one that ruined it.
It got a little crispy, but uh, camping.
Look at that.
That's a cute little container.
All right.
Chicken.
How is it?
Tastes like chicken.
Little barbecue.
Fixes everything.
Nice and hot.
Chris and Nathan are here.
Nathan found the really fun entrance, which I told him looked challenging.
And he said he took it as a challenge.
Whoa.
He didn't mess up in the muddy part, but he ate it right here in the dry part.
Hilarious.
Nathan's here.
Nicely done.
Dude.
Impressive.
Right here.
How are you?
I know you made it through the rough stuff.
It's softer than I thought it was.
It is.
It's real soft.
Can you believe this guy?
Unbelievable.
Nice thing about panniers though is it's easy to pick up.
Right?
Yeah.
Ready?
Yes.
I will film, hopefully.
Whoa.
That was completely unnecessary and I love it.
There's Chris.
This is good video.
Better than my eating chicken video garbage.
Awesome.
Welcome in.
The grill's all warmed up if you want to cook.
Oh dude, we are starving.
Well, eat.
You gotta cook first, bro.
Well, that's good.
I've been stressed about you finding it, so I'm glad you did.
Man, you're ready.
Just like right in the fire.
I'm not videotaping that because I'm stupid.
Nathan just like, they've been here two minutes.
He's like, dinner's ready.
Plops it in the fire.
If you haven't subscribed to Nathan's channel, Nathan and Chris's channel,
I'm going to talk with my mouth full about how good it is.
For the love of knots, I'll put a link in for you.
Fantastic, amazing people and we're so excited they're here to camp with us.
We're excited that you invited us.
Yeah, dude.
They came all the way down from Portland, which is two and a half hours.
We just like leisurely bopped over 45 minutes or whatever.
So they're hardcore.
Their meat is out.
I learned that ---- in France.
Nathan is cooking a steak.
Eat it any way you want, buddy.
That's up to you.
I don't feel bad about singeing the chicken anymore.
Dude, I promise you this is going to be one of the best steaks I've ever had.
I'm certain.
Dude, I don't begrudge you anything.
Plate?
You got it.
Oh, s**t.
I put my plate, I cleaned it up and put it away.
Oh.
By the bone.
That is charbroiled.
That is a steak.
Perfect steak.
Wolfgang Puck, eat your heart out.
I do, I'm going to have to see the inside of that steak.
You're going to have to show me what it looks like.
I mean, I guess you don't have to, but I would feel bad.
I would feel honored if you would share that with me.
Okay.
For the record, I was wrong and that looks pretty good, so I don't know if you can tell
the color, it's pretty dark.
I'm going to take a bite, and if it tastes like crap, then I'll tell you I was wrong.
It's a little raw for me, but that's good.
Yeah.
Thank you.
A little singe, a little char on the outside just brings out the flavors.
It's got a certain je ne sais quoi.
It wasn't bad.
That's pretty good.
I wouldn't cook a steak that way, but I can't help it.
I wouldn't cook a steak that way, but it wasn't bad.
You ever like go to camp and look around and wonder, I can't figure out who the at this
camp is.
Wow.
It's probably you.
Here I am, here I am.
So fun times, Nathan just realized he put two things on the fire, one is a potato, one
is an onion.
He had another potato that he just put in the fire just now, so it's going to be a staggered
dinner evening for them.
You're just going to eat an onion?
Yeah.
You can't even put it on a steak, it's done.
Have you ever tried it?
It's delicious.
I mean, I've eaten an onion before.
How do you like the spot?
Thank you for being here.
It's a great spot.
It's got a challenge course, which I already tested out, so it's got water, it's got fire.
I mean, I came here and there was fires all set up, dude, I'm hot, I'm happy here.
And you're hot.
Oh my.
We're hanging out, chilling, swapping stories, good times, camping with friends is the best.
Drinking.
Having a little Mr. Puff Puff, a little boozage.
There's still a potato in the fire, you'll notice it's much darker than when we started,
so it's like he's making French fries, I think.
Our fire tender is here.
Yeah.
Mike is crushing it on the fire front, I just got to throw that out there.
You made an upside down fire, you saw it, I filmed it, I don't have to tell you.
The fire's still going great, it's fantastic, we're hanging out, and I feel like I should
have more to say, but this is that part of camping where you just hang out, enjoy yourself,
that's the point, right?
I can't get an email right now.
I am not thinking about anything but the people around this fire and how much fun we're having
and hoping I don't freeze myself to death tonight.
So it's pretty awesome, thanks for coming along with us guys, don't forget to check
out everyone else's video of the same trip, I'll for sure link those in the description
because Nathan and Chris's will be far superior to mine.
Anybody else want to add anything productive or?
No?
Okay.
Got nothing.
The hard part here is, when it gets this short, are you filming this?
I could set my beard on fire at any moment.
Let's do it.
Plus the bourbon on my breath, it's like difficulty degree of like 32 on a scale of whatever.
1 to 32.
Best night ever.
32%?
What does that even mean?
I don't know.
Why are you subscribed to this channel?
Leave that in the comments because I have no idea.
I would unsubscribe right now.
I would understand.
I can't wait to check the analytics on this one.
Minus 30?
You know the great thing about unsubscribing from Dork is that you're going to come over
to my channel and subscribe to the For the Love of God.
You actually can subscribe to both.
No, no, it doesn't work that way.
It's a rule of 32s.
Like, we're going to have to roll back, we won't be able to do the 20,000 subscriber
live stream on April 9th because I'll be under it because I'll lose so many subscribers.
With the light it looks like your hat's on fire.
You made me inhale smoke.
That's not the point of this endeavor.
You're not supposed to.
Bro.
Also have the high-tech-est film-like.
What?
Those are words.
I'm done.
I haven't even drank that much, I'm just stupid.
Well, it is late.
We stayed up late laughing and telling stories around the fire, so great group to hang out
with.
Big thanks to Mike and McLovin and Nathan and Chris for coming and hanging out and being
such good company.
I am all nestled into my Snugpak Ionosphere in my big Coleman Big Basin sleeping bag and
I'm really hoping it's going to be much warmer than the last time I camped in this tent and
on this mat with a sleeping pad because the temperatures are supposed to be about the
same tonight, so we shall see if this solves my problem.
I'm going to try to get some sleep.
Thanks for watching the video and if you haven't and you like these kinds of adventures, maybe
think about subscribing.
That'd be cool.
I will catch up with you guys in the morning.
You're awesome for watching.
Camping is awesome.
I'm tired and clearly have nothing coherent to say, so I'll see you in the morning.
Good night.
It's morning.
I slept far more comfortably last night.
Very warm.
New Nemo pillow is fantastic.
Coleman bag was real good.
So starting to suspect that Snugpak Travel Pack 4 is not a 19 degree bag because this
is a 15 degree bag, which is functionally the same.
It's probably more like a 40 degree bag.
I still think I'll use it in the summer and stuff or maybe in the later spring and early
fall, but it's not like a winter style.
I wouldn't go camping in it below freezing or near freezing.
That's basically my advice, but survived the night.
Very comfortable.
Got actually some sleep this time, so I feel good.
And now I'm going to make some coffee.
I've been driving all night.
I'll take it.
You're going to try to use my table.
I can see it.
I don't have any idea what you're talking about.
I have to point out on camera that I was the fourth person awake.
No offense to my family or friends, but that never happens when I go camping.
So it is nice to camp with experienced campers sometimes.
There was even sort of a fire going when I got out here.
Campfire coffee is so good.
How did you guys sleep?
McLevin?
How did you sleep?
Slept well.
Yeah, I was warm.
Good, good.
Nathan?
Fantastic.
How about you, Chris?
Pretty good.
I had cold feet, but everything else was warm.
Yeah.
If I was married to Nathan, I'd have cold feet too.
Mike?
Good.
Good?
Got a little chilly, but good.
Mike had the most minimalist set, so he did well, but he's also a lot cooler than me and
more hardcore.
I have like 14 blankets and I'm like, I don't know, it was about a half a degree too chilly
for me.
How was last night?
Excellent.
Yeah?
Yeah.
There was much laughing.
And then there was much sleeping.
Good combination.
There was a little bit of drinking and a lot of good steak.
There was a lot of good steak.
Big Basin 15, not the most space efficient motorcycle camping bag, but damn is it comfortable.
I think it was 50 bucks.
Coleman, you're awesome.

Back to packing up.
Everything's on the bike.
Only thing left to do is throw my riding gear on.
First of all, thank you to McLovin, to Mike, to Chris and Nathan for coming out camping
with us.
Very enjoyable evening.
Lots of laughs and fun around the campfire and great people to camp with.
Big shout out to Mike for being fire guy.
Appreciate that a lot.
I usually fire guy, so it's nice enough to be fire guy.
Really happy with my Motrek panniers and the Tillamook bag on top.
I think that's a great combination.
Works really slick, easy to use, super durable.
I feel very confident about them.
So, happy with those.
I highly recommend that stuff.
I'll link them for you in the description.
Don't forget if you chop at Giant Luke Motor, you can save 10% with promo code DORK on the
road, which is, you know, freaking 50 bucks if you buy this setup.
So it's not nothing.
Looking forward to some spirited riding on the way out, getting home, putting everything
away and start planning the next trip.
So thank you for coming along.
I appreciate you.
And please, most importantly, do not forget to be excellent to each other.
Oh, thank you.
Thank you.
Oh, thank you.
Thank you.
Oh, thank you.
Oh, thank you very much.
Excellent!
Yay!
You guys ready?
Ish.
Ish?
I'm enjoying my trail blazing.
Let's see where I end up.
Oh jeez.
You're gonna miss the whole shebang here.
That is literally my plan.
I'll hit the big mud hole for ya.
Ta-da!
A lot of questions about the depth of the maps, that's not the right word, but the accuracy
and how much stuff, the breadth, whatever the hell, how much crap is on the maps on
this Zumo and there are hiking trails on here.
I can totally see the trails that are near this area that I know.
So those brown lines, you can probably see a lot of those are hiking trails.
And again, I've loaded no additional maps on this.
That's all by default on here.
That's pretty damn good.
So those of you concerned about backcountry navigation, and if this GPS will do it for
you, I say hell yes, I'm pretty happy with it.
This is Hull Oaks Lumber, which is apparently one of the last remaining steam-powered lumber
mills, probably in the freaking world, but at least in the country.
Pretty cool landmark.
This will make an excellent after-credits.
This is one of the few places that can still use, still mill big like old-growth logs.
Because they still have the capacity to do that, so you'll see a lot of big timber come
up this way.
Very cool.
I love that smell.
Right?
I've got a log pond and everything.
Look at you.
Old-back truck.
It's like going back in time.
So that's a wigwam burner.
They burn like scraps of s***.
It doesn't look like I use it anymore, which probably, that's against the rules.
I'm going to pull up under there and get some sawdust dumped on me.
Bye.
