Alphabetto.
It's important that we understand the
building blocks of the Spanish language.
In order to know how to pronounce, read,
and write, we must first learn the
alphabet.
The great thing about Spanish is that
unlike English, it's phonetic.
This means that the way a word is
spelled is how it will sound. Once we
learn the alphabet, it will be easy for
us to know how to pronounce and say a
word.
Let's take a look at the whole Spanish
alphabet first and then we'll go letter
by letter and practice saying each one.
Take a look at the Spanish alphabet.
Both English and Spanish have roots in
the Latin language. Therefore, their
alphabets are similar. Notice what looks
similar and what looks different.
Okay, before we go learn how to
pronounce all the letters of the
alphabetto espanol,
here's a little tip for better
pronunciation.
In English, we tend to speak so our
mouths are half open. However, Spanish
speakers comparatively open their mouths
much wider when they talk. This may feel
a little silly, but as we go through the
alphabetto, especially on the vocales or
the vowels, exaggerate how wide you
would open your mouth.
Ah, is our first vocal or vowel. When
you say a, open your mouth wide and
almost do a half yawn. A
b.
When you say b, almost add a v sound to
it. B
say
ch.
Ch is our first consonant that is
different in the Spanish alphabet.
De.
A.
E is our second vowel. Imagine you're
saying hey to a friend but taking off
the h
a
e. Now e is our third vowel. We want to
make sure that we're pronouncing our
vowels very purely because this will
make or break your accent.
Imagine you're saying B like a bumblebee
but taking off the B. And remember to
overexaggerate how much you're moving
your mouth. E
hot or what we know as J in English
normally takes on the sound of an H.
Ca
l
a
m a
n
o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o.
Now O is another vowel that is
important. Open your mouth wide and
almost imagine that you're Santa Claus
saying ho ho ho. But take off the H. O
P
er.
Now, these double Rs, er, can be tricky
for English speakers. If you have not
rolled your Rs before and want to
practice, it may seem a little bit silly
at first, but I promise that you'll be
able to do it eventually.
Take the tip of your tongue and place it
behind your two front teeth. Now blow
air really fast.
If you can't do this, a quick temporary
fix is to pronounce k d really fast.
Could
essay
t
is our last vowel. Imagine that you're
trying to scare someone and you say woo
except take off the B.
Now, when you say the V in Spanish,
almost put a B sound to it. Bisga,
and last but not least, Zeta.
Great job. You did it. Now on to the
next adventure.
