A warm welcome back to the channel, some exciting news for the A321XLR and the end of an era
at JetBlue. Air Canada has published news in the second week of September surrounding
its Airbus A321XLR. The Canadian flag carrier says that the fleet of the extra long range
aircraft will begin being delivered in the first quarter of 2026 and with that it has
confirmed its first route. Inauguration of the new aircraft will occur between Montreal
and Palma de Mallorca, the Spanish island in the Western Mediterranean with flights
now also on sale. The new route announcement is a sign of what's to come for the flag carrier
as it begins planning for a new era with the capabilities of this aircraft to change the
game of its international route network. AC924 is scheduled to depart four times a week from
Montreal on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday with a 6.45pm takeoff and a following
day morning arrival in Palma de Mallorca. AC925 is the return flight, departing some
four hours later at 12.15pm. The flight is scheduled to occur between June 17th of 2026
and October 23rd of 2026. The A321XLR comes with more range than base
models in the A320neo program and with the purchase it alleviates pressure on widebodies
which can continue focusing on serving in-demand cities that are requiring those higher levels
of capacity. But with the game changing XLR, secondary cities are within range such as
Palma de Mallorca with fresh opportunities to grow market share in new locations. Air
Canada says that it will also operate the newly delivered A321XLR through to Duluce
and Edinburgh in 2026 from the city located in the Quebec province with this market acting
as a key gateway as we know across the Atlantic. Under current forecasting but naturally subject
to change given all the difficulties surrounding the delivery of new commercial aircraft in
recent times, Air Canada like I said would hope to take on its first unit in the first
quarter of 2026. Following that delivery a familiarization window would occur in a bid
to get the crew up to speed with the new aircraft before it then would be deployed on the first
Air Canada we know is going to take on 30 of these game changer A321XLRs. The first
aircraft will be on lease from Air Lease Corporation, a major aircraft lesser tasked with the responsibility
of providing aircraft to airlines such as the flag carrier of Canada. 2026 will hopefully
be a big year for the business in terms of fleet growth with the planned arrival of 10
A321XLR jets in the year alone allowing for the rapid expansion of the international network
An introduction of these planes as part of efforts to streamline and remember eventually
say goodbye to the 737 MAX at the mainline fleet before its transition occurs to the
Rouge branding. These XLRs will also be the first narrowbody in the fleet to feature lie
flat seats in business class as part of attempts to bring the widebody experience to smaller
aircraft. Therefore the aircraft type will seat 182 passengers with 14 signature class
seats followed by 168 in economy. Looking further ahead it will not just be Montreal
benefiting from the game changing capabilities of the aircraft, the airline also confirming
that routes from Toronto, Ottawa and Halifax will all launch with the XLR, more cities
after that too. Over to the next story where JetBlue is moving
ahead with the transition of its fleet after operating its final flight with the Embraer
E190. The move sees the airline now relying strictly on the next generation A220-300 for
its more regional flying and the transition accompanied by the delivery of the 50th aircraft
in this type, a landmark milestone in a move to become more efficient. The final revenue
flight of the E190 marked the official retirement point and therefore the departure of an aircraft
that played an integral role in the expansion and innovation period of the business. Operating
for nearly two decades, the E190 flew as Flight 190 from New York JFK through to Boston
Logan in the second week of September with a festive gateside event in both respective
cities to celebrate the sending off of an incredibly pivotal plane for the development
of this US company. JetBlue began operations with the E190 in
2005 when it served cities for the first time and in fitting fashion the current Chief Operating
Officer captained the final flight just like he did for the inaugural service 20 years
ago. The US carrier went as far as also making sure that the flight was joined by several
other high-profile crew members and guests that made the day-to-day operation of this
Embraer aircraft possible for so long. Throughout its tenure, the airline's route development
became very much clear and highlighted through the significance of New York and Boston as
focus cities. JetBlue was the first airline in the world
to fly the E190 with the ability to expand its reach and an aircraft now that will leave
an everlasting legacy. As touched on with the departure of the E190, it closes out a
wonderful era but equally opens the door for a new one for the US company. As part of the
retirement, the airline is transitioning towards Airbus with the A320 and A220 families being
the primary options. Let me know your thoughts down below in the
comments. Thanks a lot for watching, take care, be safe and I'll see you tomorrow for
your next industry recap.
