One morning, a farmer walked through the mountains near his village.
While searching for wood, he found something unusual.
A large, shining egg resting in the grass.
It was heavier than any hen's egg he had ever seen.
Curious, the farmer picked it up.
He thought, I can't leave it here.
Maybe it will hatch if I put it in my hen's nest.
And so, he carried the egg home and placed it carefully beneath a mother hen.
Along with her other eggs.
Days passed.
Slowly, the eggs hatched.
Out came fluffy yellow chicks.
And then, from the big egg, a different kind of bird.
This one looked strange.
Bigger, with stronger wings.
Sharper eyes.
But since it grew up among chickens, it learned to scratch the ground.
Eat grains, and flap around clumsily like the others.
The farmer's children laughed.
It looks funny, but it's just another chicken.
So, the little bird believed them.
It thought, yes, I am a chicken.
Years went by.
The bird grew larger, taller, and stronger than all the others.
But still, it stayed in the farmyard.
Pecking at the soil.
Hopping a little.
Never soaring.
One afternoon, as the sun turned the sky golden, the bird looked up.
Far above, it saw a magnificent eagle soaring gracefully across the clouds.
Wings stretched wide, gliding effortlessly.
Its heart skipped a beat.
Something inside whispered,
That.
That feels like me.
Excited, it told the chickens,
Look at that bird!
Someday, I want to fly like that.
But the chickens only laughed.
Don't be silly.
That's an eagle, the king of the sky.
You're just a chicken.
Chickens don't fly.
Hearing this every day, the bird slowly stopped dreaming.
It lowered its head, scratched the dirt again, and convinced itself.
They must be right.
I'm just a chicken.
Years turned into a lifetime.
The bird grew old.
Feathers dull.
Wings never spread wide.
One evening, as it rested in the corner of the coop,
it saw another eagle soaring high in the glowing sunset.
It sighed deeply.
Its eyes filled with longing.
It whispered softly to itself,
If.
If only.
If only I had tried.
And then it closed its eyes forever,
never knowing it had been an eagle all along.
So many of us live like that eagle in the chicken's yard.
We listen to others who tell us what we can or cannot do.
We lower our heads, ignore our inner voice, and forget our wings.
But here is the truth.
You are not meant to live small.
You are born to rise, to fly, to soar.
Your only limit is the one you accept.
Remember this always.
Believe in yourself.
You were born an eagle.
Don't die a chicken.
