EP45 • How to not do a RV Trip Or last minute vacation

Van and RV Trip Across Canada

Are you worried? No. Were you worried? No, but also, I don't know. Have a nice, good job.
So this Eastern Canada RV road trip was really something else. This overall has been a big
learning experience for Venus and I, and through a series kind of self-inflicted errors, it really
hindered the trip and today's vlog. Just to recap, instead of just doing a staycation for Venus'
vacation and saving money for the Race to 100 Countries series, we decided to do a last minute
deal, which particularly didn't turn out to be a great deal after all. The deal was that we got
this RV for $59 a night, but we had to deliver the RV to Halifax, Toronto, Halifax, 1,800 kilometers,
super, super far away, and there was no room for any extra time because Venus had to be back at
work on a specific day, which means that we had to catch a flight in Halifax and hope to God that
the flight didn't get canceled, which meant for the final three days, I took it my responsibility
to take over most of the driving between Quebec City to Halifax so that she could just rest and
chill because she's been working quite hard at her job recently. That said, it leaves us to the star
of this trip. We finally made it to a national park to go try out a campsite with the RV. So
this is Fundy Bay National Park in New Brunswick. This is where the vlog starts.
Keeps going.
How many times do you think they get that joke?
Every day. Well, it's so nice.
Welcome to Fundy Bay National Park here in Canada.
My ear is funny. Why is your ear funny? Because it was so loud in the truck and now it's so quiet.
Yeah, the truck is stupid loud, right? So loud. Welcome to Fundy Bay National Park
here in Brunswick, Canada. Are you ready?
So how many national parks has it been now? This is number two?
So far? Yeah. Went to Bruce Peninsula.
And now we're at Fundy Bay. We also went to Jack Carter National Park.
That's not a real national park though. But we also been to BAM.
Oh, nice.
How's it like being a child?
I think our campsite is down there, yeah. It's so different from what we have in Ontario.
It's so quiet. Oh yeah, it's because we're in a national park.
Yeah, but other national parks we have been to, they're not very quiet.
One, two, three.
But good job on subbing your first mountain. Yeah, you did it.
87. This is us. Oh, this is us, 87.
You remember BAMF, right? We got water, we got this. We didn't have water at BAMF.
That's because it was winter.
I'm gonna get all BAMF water because I bet you BAMF water tastes better than Calgary water.
Oh, I see.
We got a lovely view of the forest down here.
And no truck sounds.
And this whole campsite, if you just come, don't even bother online booking, it's 25 bucks.
So it's like actually pretty cheap. Not as cheap as free, but cheap.
Okay, here we are, Upper Salmon River Trail.
It's already 5pm, sun sets at 6pm, so I don't think we're gonna make it very far.
Like going this way, the trail looks pretty obvious.
But going this way, well it's kind of obvious too.
Is it too obvious where should I go? Should I go up?
I think that's pretty obvious, that's the trail, but I kind of don't want to go up.
Because I think the one in Ontario, it's more like paved nicely with gravel.
Or even no gravel, it was a little bit wider.
It's more obvious, right?
Well, yeah, leaves on the ground doesn't help.
Hi.
What's up? Do you like my gear?
Yeah, it's nice. This one has a little extra on the end though.
That's okay.
You did it!
Good job.
I haven't showered yet today, and it looks pretty clean.
We did it!
Fundy Bay National Park, here we are.
But we're here, and it's good, and it's glorious, and that's what travel's all about.
It's all about sunny weather and happy days, it's also about rainy weather.
It's gonna be rainy.
And, you know, streams, and nature, and life.
So you should be able to see salmon running upwards.
And if you have the idea that you want to go fishing, definitely not allowed here.
Refreshing, right? It's good.
Okay, let's head back.
All right, so this is pad thai.
This is one serving of pad thai, so since Venus doesn't eat one serving anyway,
we're going to share it.
Really, the most expensive thing of this is the ability to cook everything in the bag.
There's no fill line, but that's okay.
450 ml, that's roughly about all of this.
And in 15 minutes, this should be good to go.
And when you do it correctly, or incorrectly, it just turns into a pile of goop.
What?
I think we put in too much water.
Let's get some pad thai going.
Looks like a pad thai to me.
Okay, let's try some of this pad thai.
That face looks like it's either terrible or it's really good.
Okay, I think it's terrible.
I think if I freeze-dried my own stuff.
Or if you make it properly.
If I made it properly, I could.
I'm just not into the whole freeze-dried thing.
I think you just have to learn how to make this.
Because we put maybe an extra 50 ml in there.
That's a lot.
And then you just, it's just not saucy.
I mean, it's not like thick sauce, right?
Yeah, I can see it could be good if it's done properly.
The sauce become like pad thai sauce.
Yeah, it just became better.
It's flavorful.
Yeah, I didn't mess it up, okay?
I did.
Hey Venus, it's time to wake up.
I'm turning on the lights.
Venus, it's time to wake up.
6 a.m.
You haven't got to return this thing.
Venus Chan, wake up.
As you might see, there's no latch thing.
I don't think there's any bears in this park, Venus.
I don't think there's any bears.
I think it's just moose here.
Ready?
Ready for some adventuring?
Final day.
Yeah?
How's your vacation so far?
It's really good.
Yeah?
Enjoying your time?
Yeah?
Ready to see your friends?
Good.
Mike isn't happy when he touches the water.
All right, so Venus had the plan of us leaving at 6 a.m.
to get here by 7.
The place is open till 9.
But how do people get sunrise shots if it's not open till 9?
They do whatever is illegal.
Makes sense, right?
The best shots are always the legal shots.
Are you worried?
Have a nice day.
Good job.
What's up?
Oh, wait.
Closed closed.
October 10th is the last day they're open.
What's today?
October 25th.
God damn it.
Well, we drove here for no reason.
Very good.
Let's get out of here.
Nova Scotia!
So stinky.
Again?
Okay, here we go.
Happy?
You found your red field?
Let's go over there.
Just on that hill so we can see a lot more red.
How happy are you?
You found out a red field.
It's just time we stopped to see it.
Okay, ready to go?
We gotta bring back the car.
Do you want to eat it?
It's so bright.
Hi.
Your vacation is coming to a close.
We're refueling.
This is really going to be really expensive.
God, this is going to be so expensive.
Yep, still going.
Look at that.
We got to do another one.
All right, that's not so bad.
$235.
That was another $236.
Nice.
We're so poor.
Okay, so we're turning the truck now.
We're heading to see our special little guy.
That's Sylvie.
And yeah, things are gonna be great.
Here we go.
And a dream.
Dropping off, coming in.
Oh, they have vets.
Yeah, they do.
Well, it's whatever we can get.
Hi.
Oh my god, that's so cool.
Oh, okay, cool.
This is Megan.
If you guys don't know who Megan is.
I left the car running.
Hi.
Long time no see.
I know.
Wait, did you take the...
Wait, hang on.
The cabinet thing.
This is Akio.
He's my old neighbor.
We're just hanging out on his balcony.
He has a freaking barbecue on his balcony.
Amazing.
Yes, sir.
Yo, nice seeing you, man.
Cheers.
Hey, buddy.
How are you doing?
Hello, hello.
So we spent some time with everybody here.
But now we're heading home.
We had like a huge sale.
And we're like, oh my god, this is perfect.
We bought a bunch.
Thank you.
Yeah.
That's why they had the sale.
Yeah, that was exactly why.
We're like, oh, that's why those flavors were left.
So freeze-dried food, gross.
Soy protein.
And then as you get to the end,
that's when you have to start using the dry food.
Yeah, I mean you can take some like vegetables.
Or like...
Carrots.
Yeah, potatoes.
This one?
No, I'll put it on the backpack.
Here we go.
Got it?
Hey, buddy.
What do you think about the backpack?
Love it.
Great choice of color, yeah.
Orange was the way, right?
Yes.
Everything he has is oranges.
Thanks so much for coming.
Thanks for all the gifts and stuff and snacks.
So good seeing you.
Thanks for coming again.
We'll see you guys real soon.
Next time.
Bye, guys.
That was fun.
What's going on here?
All right, let's scan that.
Okay, hopefully I see you on the other side.
Okay, bye.
And now it's the last time we ever saw our bags again.
Do you want to get a lobster?
Who asked you that question?
I think we should get a lobster.
A live one this time.
Not like a frozen dead one, but a live one.
What are you going to do with it?
You have to go back home.
How can this be?
What?
This makes me so mad.
I'm so excited.
Look at all those live lobsters there.
I really want a oyster.
A bag of frozen peas?
No, I want an oyster.
I think ultimately, it doesn't really matter where our destination is.
I just want to spend more time with Venus.
As much time as I can with Venus because she's my bestie.
Okay, next trip soon, okay?
Okay.
It's our house.
Inevitable.
Hey.
Hi.
That was a good four days, right?
