Whoo, we got some changes some updates for you guys now the pond is
Tremendously different than what I had initially
Planned obviously ideally you would dig a hole you would line it with an underlayment then drop in the liner
But I wasn't prepared for how bad the dirt here was it's mostly rocks and jutted surfaces
It's not really clay or anything like that
So I decided we were going to build a
Frame on the inside so we didn't even have to worry about the rocks or anything and in doing so
Originally the pond was supposed to be 16 feet long and of course 10 feet wide
Because we have the structure in here now though we lost 2 feet length and 2 feet width
So it's now 14 feet internal dimensions. It's 14 feet by 10 or sorry by 8 feet
However, we went a foot deeper well technically we came a foot out of
The out of the ground it was initially supposed to be 5 feet deep and the hole technically is but I built the framing up
So we would get 6 feet of depth that of course we're gonna build the deck all the way around it
That's literally going to be right on top of it and over
So far
Let me see last thing one of the last things we've of course did was build the framing
And I lined it all in plywood
Capped it off with some 2x6. This is all pressure treated lumber. It's fine in the ground for like 30 years
I think it's rated for something like that. That'd be long past my time
I you know, I'm probably only got 20 years left in who knows 30 years seems like a really long time
But that's dropped in now and then for the underlayment I didn't order it I forgot to I thought I did
And I guess it just well technically I did order it and it just didn't come I wasn't built for it either though
So anyways, I went to a local hardware store and picked up some old
Carpet underlay so this stuff is like a half-inch thick sponge material
This is just going to absorb any rocks or anything that might be on the surface of the ground
I'm not worried about the sides though. That's why would then of course the pond liners here weighs about 300 pounds
I don't know how I'm gonna get it in there
But I have to figure something out and once the liners in I'm gonna backfill it with that
Wheelbarrow over there
The plan is to just get it in there somehow and wiggle it around
It's not a tutorial
You
Just went ahead
Toss it over the side left some up and now I just got to pull it up over all the corners
it's
super heavy and
Super hot so imagine picking up something that's really uncomfortable to pick up because it's so heavy and difficult to move around
And smells like rubber and burns your hands every time you try to touch it
Yeah
Do you like aquariums do you?
Tell you one thing though, it's awfully nice to walk on this
I don't know how I'm gonna get out of here
Look what I found Oh
Little frog welcome to my amphibian channel
Whoo I did it myself I I do it myself
All right
liners in for the most part
I personally find having a few inches of water in there helps to smooth it out put it some weight on the corners and whatnot
so I'm just gonna put you know, maybe a couple hundred gallons in there and
I'm able to smooth the bottom out a lot easier and
Have the corners fill up. You don't want any sort of
drooping edges
Otherwise when it fills all that pressure is just gonna burst right through the liner. You want it to be smooth
But the entire thing this is a difficult thing to do is have any a rectangular or a square sized pond because
You do get a bunch of this overlap. I'll have to cut it and glue it
But I think the main focus today is
Get the liner in smooth it out have all the sides. I'm not worried about the corners back fill it and begin to fill it
And then get to work on the deck that's gonna go around it figure out what I'm gonna do for the filtration
obviously
I decided I would go ahead and almost
complete the pond before installing filtration, which I I
Know what I'm going to do now, and it's most likely going to be drilled with bulkheads and whatnot
Which is as simple and easy as drilling right through adding bulkheads and then filtration on the other side
I also have a couple skimmers coming. I don't know if I'll use the skimmers or not
I don't know time will tell I love I love these types of builds where it keeps changing and challenging me
I I don't mind if everything goes perfectly, but I got to tell you I have way more fun
And it's way more exciting and challenging if I have some problems
And if I got to make some adjustments and changes I prefer that much more than everything going smoothly. I don't know maybe I'm just weird
