Hi friends, welcome back to the Wildflower and Twine Garden. I didn't get a whole lot done in
the veggie patch this week but I did tick off some things from that never-ending list of jobs
that we all have. So come for a walk around my favourite place with me while we tidy up,
everything I do around the garden has to be easily reversed. And I also need to think ahead
about things that I might want to take with me when one day we move on. Like this really pretty
climbing rose. If this was our space then I might have planted it in the garden and trained it to
climb up the side of the house over the windows in that veggie patch where I planted the onions
a few weeks back. And this is where grow bags come in really handy. This should help to manage
the roots so they don't get too root bound and I'm also able to cut the plant right back and
move the bag to wherever I might go in the future. This is the corner of the pergola where I hung the
strawberries last week and because that shade sail's gone now I'll be able to train this rose
is a low growing ground cover type rose. It has the prettiest deep iridescent pink flower. I just
couldn't resist it. Because it has that really low growing sprawling type of growth I thought it would
be really cute in a hanging basket up with my strawberries. But because I don't know how it
grows long term I thought I'd just put it into this pot first just to see what it does. And it
fits this last spot perfectly to hide the view of the grow bags from my kitchen window.
And this week it was finally time to say goodbye to the calendula bushes.
It was really hard because they were still trying to bloom but as you can see they were looking
pretty ready so now we get to plant new things in all these spaces. If you've ever wanted to grow
lemongrass in a grow bag I don't recommend it. I have never disliked something in my garden so much
as this lemongrass and I'm honestly pretty shocked at myself it's taken me this long to move it out
of there. I'm not sure if it was because the lemongrass is pretty thirsty or if the grow bag
dried out too fast or if it was a combination of both but I found that even if it rained I still
had to give it a hand water otherwise it got more dramatic than a peace lily. I've previously
grown lemongrass for years in a retaining wall bed over by that fence line that you can see
and I only ever had to water it very occasionally so I think I might put some back over there.
I never did get around to potting up this lime tree and now it's got so many fruit on it that
I think I'm going to have to wait. Any advice would be really helpful here guys should I leave
it or should I pot it up and also should I take some of these fruit off? Is that too many to have
in one cluster? It was time to pull up the rest of the garlic and well let's just say it wasn't
100% what I was expecting. I got a couple of okay size bulbs but most of them just didn't grow at
all. The thing is none of this came from seed garlic all of this was grown from garlic that
I'd got from the markets and even though I know this garlic was grown only about two hours from
where I live the climate is different it's much cooler there so if I take that into account
and the lack of experience on my end of growing garlic I guess I should be pretty happy with the
couple of bulbs I did get. So now the plan is to save these big bulbs and replant them next year
and then hopefully over time they'll just get bigger and better. This week I was able to get
into the flower patch and plant a few things that I've been collecting over the last couple of weeks.
I've got a bit of a bald patch in this everlasting section because there's only a fine layer of soil
here on top of some cardboard it dries out really really fast in this section so I'm just
going to mound up some more soil and plant some perennial flowers and I found some echinacea
seedlings at the nursery that I'm going to plant here because all of my seeds that I've planted
haven't germinated. Thanks for hanging out with me again this week guys I really appreciate you
I hope you have a beautiful week and we'll see you again next time bye guys
