Hi, I'm Brad.
I'm John.
Earlier this week, I'm pretty sure it was this week.
Earlier this week, Eric Rommel did a cover of Frank Sinatra's My Way.
Well, in the comments of that, somebody said, oh, you know what you should do?
You should react to, well, another cover of My Way, this time by Vanni Bobiola, who did
it a year or two ago.
Oh.
Apparently.
All right.
On top of things, aren't we?
I see it takes people a while to suggest them to us.
Thank you.
It was a suggestion.
Yeah.
Let's see.
Basically, it's the same notes from when Eric did it, but different audiences, maybe.
So My Way by Frank Sinatra is basically the English lyrical adaptation of a 1967 French
song Comme des Habitudes, which I just butchered that, and it was released by Frank Sinatra
in 1969.
It's been a-
Great year.
Yeah.
It's when I entered the world.
Yeah.
After the song.
Yeah.
I don't talk about the year or nothing.
It's been covered by a whole bunch of people, and it's been very successful for a whole
bunch of people, including Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Sid Vicious, which amuses me.
I had to react to that one.
I know.
And Sinatra's version of My Way spent 75 weeks in the UK top 40, which is fourth on
the list of longest amount of time spent on UK charts in history.
That's crazy.
75 weeks.
Which-
And that was a life long?
Yeah.
Like you were talking about before.
It's like the only things I could possibly come up with that hung around probably for
longer.
There's probably something very Christmassy from Mariah Carey who's going to be thawing
out in less than a month.
She'll be thawed now.
Yeah.
She's starting.
She's been taken out of the freezer.
Oh, yeah.
She's out of the freezer.
She's dripping in a corner somewhere.
It can take about a month for her to fully defrost.
Probably something from Michael Jackson, if I had to hazard a guess.
Yeah.
Maybe.
I can't think of who else could possibly have hung around in the charts for that long.
I don't know.
I mean-
I don't really-
You knee jerk, you want to say the Beatles, but when the Beatles were doing their stuff,
it was a lot of next hit, next hit, next hit, next hit.
Oh, yeah.
That's the thing.
Then it was-
Yeah.
And the previous one was blowing off the charts quickly.
Yeah.
So it's kind of like, I'll actually have to look it up and see.
Anyway.
Which you could have done.
Yeah, but I didn't actually think about it.
Before Sinatra's version came out, though, a music producer actually asked a very young
David Bowie, who at the time was writing more songs for other people, to come up with an
English version of the song.
He recorded a demo.
I don't know if it's available anywhere.
It probably isn't.
Yeah, it's probably out there somewhere.
Yeah.
I don't know.
Someone probably has it.
Someone probably has it, but it probably hasn't been released.
Yeah.
Well, yeah, I mean, it's probably sitting in a-
I know.
Like a reel-to-reel tape.
Yeah.
Right there.
A reel-to-reel tape or something like that.
In someone's, probably, storage unit somewhere, or record labels.
His version was called Even a Fool Learns to Love, but it was never finalized, never
finished, or anything.
And what it actually ended up becoming was a wholly original idea was he adapted from
it, which was Life on Mars.
So, yeah.
Somehow you get from a French song, Comme d'Habitude, to My Way, to Life on Mars.
So.
Okay.
Yeah.
There you go.
All right.
So we're ready to check her out?
Yes.
All right.

and stuff down there.
I bet you hers is going to be a lot different than Eric's.
Yes.
It's going to be a female vocal.
It's going to be a lot softer.
Maybe she could have gone a little more metal with it.
Yeah.
I never know.
Yeah.
The end is near, and so I face the final curtain.
My friends all said it clear, all said my case, of which I'm certain.
I've lived a life that's full.
I've traveled each and every highway and more.
Much more than this, I didn't mind.
Regrets, but then again, it's a few to mention.
I did what I had to do, and saw it through without exemption.
From my mind, memory, sorry, I should say.
This does remind me more of the Frank Sinatra version.
Bearing in mind, I haven't heard the Frank Sinatra version in decades at this point.
Yeah, enough I have, it's I don't remember it.
But I would say, yeah, definitely.
So this reminds me, like I said, a lot more of what my brain is saying.
The original Frank Sinatra version was like.
My brain could be very wrong.
As I said, long, long time since I've heard the original.
So far, more original-ish.
Yeah, she has such a smooth vocal on her.
And saw it through without exemption.
I played each charted course, each careful step.
Along the byway and on.
Much more than this, I didn't mind anyway.
Yes, there were times, I'm sure you knew.
When I'd be wrong, I could choose.
But through it all, I faced it all alone.
And didn't mind.
Laughed and had my fill, my share of losing.
But now, has tears subsided.
YouTube pause.
Yeah, it's one of the things we always comment on.
When Benny's singing, her diction is so good.
Simple fact, when she sings, you can hear clearly every single word, right?
Everything's pronounced clearly.
There's nothing fumbled.
It's all just nice and clear and sharp.
Unlike, you know, there were a lot of songs out there where the lyrics were a bit...
Something about dice?
Rolling dice?
Nirvana.
Something about...
I won't dice instead of deuce, but anyway.
But now, has tears subsided.
I find it all so amusing.
To think, I did all that.
And my eyes say, not in a shy way.
Oh, no.
Oh, no, not me.
I didn't mind.
If not himself.
And he has knocked the door.
Looks like our video had a bit of a tech issue there.
That is a voice at the end.
And it's so clear.
Like I said, that's one thing that always gets me with all of her covers, all of her songs.
It's like...
It is.
Everything is always just so clear.
And actually, I listened to her version compared to Aris' version, now I can see.
I don't know enough about the song, because if I have heard it, it's been a minute.
Yeah.
But Eric built it up.
Now I know that it obviously has to be...
That's the way the song is, because Eric built it up.
The song, yeah.
But I mean, just two totally different versions, and both great versions.
Yeah, the song always was kind of a build all the way through.
Frank launching at the end.
I did it, I did it.
Depends on what kind of mood you're in, if you want.
Nice, soft Aris.
Softer, until you get to the end.
Yeah, but it's still Susie, you know, opposed to Aris.
A bit more metal.
A bit more funeral.
Anyway, I forgot.
Yeah, that's what he says.
This is a song for playing at my funeral.
Okay.
Well, once again, that was another great one from a spot here.
We're obviously going to continue hitting our apps.
