Part 2 of my Oregon motocamping adventure takes me to Clear Lake Resort, Fish Lake, Ice Cap Campground, and a pair of waterfalls in the surrounding area. Afterward, it's back to camp to smoke a cigar and reminisce about my motocamping adventure. I found myself ill prepared on the alcohol front, and my plan to acquire beverages locally fell through. My motocamping gear served me well, though, and I had everything I needed to get through the night. I very much enjoyed my Oregon moto camping adventure, and I look forward to getting out on my Versys to do more camping in the future.
Previously on Lost. I'm setting off on my first solo moto camping adventure.
Getting real high in the mountains. Getting some real good twisties.
Killing me slow guy. We're in a clear lake but we're not going to the resort. We're going to the
cold water cove. That is weird. What that guy's doing. Cold water cove camp right here.
Here's the camp. This is site three. Let's go explore.
And now the conclusion.
All right so clear lake resort is just like four miles down the road from cold water cove.
It's a little bit different. This is a county campground. The reason why I didn't try to
camp here is there's no fire pits at the individual sites. It's right on the lake
though. It's going to be way prettier. This is where you can rent the cabins. This is where
the lodge is. Supposedly there's a restaurant down here. I want to come check it out before I
commit to having dinner there. That was my plan. This is a day use area. Yes I believe so.
It says parking designated spaces only. Howdy. Good. Just wanted to come down and check it out
and maybe come back for dinner but I wanted to see the place first. Yeah you might not find any
parking. This is not what I remember from when I was a kid. That's a big puddle. Oh this is way
different. Lodge store. So I had this grand plan. I didn't even bring whiskey because I thought
I'll just jet over to the lodge and buy a six-pack and everything will be fantastic. Well it turns
out they don't sell beer at the lodge. So then I thought I'll ride up to subtle lake that's only
like 15 or 10 miles from here. They don't have it either because there's a sign here that says the
closest beer is at Black Butte Ranch and that's 22 miles away and I don't have that much extra gas.
So I mean I do but I'd really be pushing it and I don't want to be pushing it. So
I guess I'm having a sober camping evening so I won't need to worry about being hung over tomorrow.
I should have brought at least a flask full of whiskey. Stupid. So much for my grand plan
to acquire beverages. So now the new plan is, although I've checked out Clear Lake, is to go
look at Fish Lake because it's just a few miles down. Poke around. I'll come back here when I get
hungry for dinner. Gotta eat before 5 30 though. So that blows. Lame. Unprepared. I didn't even bring
one beer. That's not planning ahead. What the ****? I'm going 60 miles an hour you dick.
Seriously, you guys are in a ******* hurry. Passing me at 70. Who the douchebag passes a
motorcyclist anyway? I'm gonna get killed by this guy pulling the trailer. Fish Lake Interpretive
Site. It's a gravel road. No? Yes? Yes. Well, I can handle a gravel parking lot. Whatever.
Not my favorite. The Versys. She is powerful. These potholes are ******* impossible to see in
the shadows. Seriously, I'm gonna hit this one because I have no pan to see. Check it out. Fish
Lake. I'll take you guys with me. I'm gonna take you off the helmet because it's too hot for the
helmet. All right, so I'm out exploring a little bit. I went back, had dinner at Clear Lake Lodge
and discovered they have a map there that there is another campground just a couple miles down
from Coldwater Cove called Ice Cap. This is it. So I want to see it. There's also a really cool
waterfall just back there. I forget the name of it already, but it's way down a trail so I didn't
get any good pictures. I don't want to walk down in all my gear, but this is Ice Cap.
Just want to see what it looks like. Another cool spot on the river with that
waterfall. There's another waterfall just the road. There's a viewpoint. I'm gonna hit that
up on the way back and check it out. So there's a bunch of stuff just right around Clear Lake.
That's pretty cool. These are all tent camping sites, huh? Yeah, they're all back in the trees.
Can't hardly even pull into them. Oh man, all the way down there on the river though.
That's beautiful. All right, let's check out this other waterfall. See if we can see it
very well without doing a bunch of hiking and my motorcycle gear. Then we'll head back to camp and
hopefully my freaking firewood I bought has showed up. Otherwise I'll have to go get it myself.
So much for delivery. Poussat Falls. Ice Cap Campground in Poussat Falls. Looks like right
up here too. Saheli Falls. That's the other one. I see the sign.
Real close. It's like a quarter mile. All right, turning left. Saheli Falls picnic area.
Saheli, Saheli. It's got to be Saheli, right? What else would that be? Keep right. Okay,
didn't want to go wrong. Well, here's parking. Well, it looks like you gotta walk down to it.
So that's a no-go at the moment. Pretty tired of getting on and off the bike, if I'm being honest.
It might be a cool spot to come back with the fam. Yeah, you gotta walk down to it. Yeah, I'm good.
All right, back to camp. All right, back to camp. This is what I didn't pick.
Well, I'm glad because it's super in the sun. Even now. I see no firewood.
So I guess I'm just gonna have to go get it. All right, well, here we are. Another peace and quiet.
Got a fire going. Smoking a cigar. No beers is kind of a bummer. But hanging out at camp.
This is probably going to be my evening. Talking kind of quiet.
I don't know what I'm saying. What am I even saying? What am I even saying? What am I even saying?
What's this?
There we are.
There's my fire.
In the woods. Right behind my campsite.
Here's my tent.
My chair.
My bike. My stuff.
I'm airing up my riding pants.
A little sweaty today.
Those are my riding jeans.
So, yeah.
Probably see you guys in the morning.
If something exciting happens.
All right, well, I'm bored. So I decided to do a loop around the camp.
See if I can get to the water.
See what the sun looks like going down.
It's chilly. It's chilly when you're moving.
We'll see what the boat ramp looks like right now.
It's a ways. Probably a mile.
So, we're gonna ride.
Wow, the sky's pretty.
Oh, yeah. Clouds are coming in. Kinda.
10% chance of precipitation.
We'll see. This lava rock is cool.
I've probably said that 16 times.
But I do think it's cool.
I'm gonna sit and talk to myself for like 3 hours.
Figured I might as well talk to you guys for a little bit.
So, thoughts on solo modal camping.
My backpacking chair is not comfortable.
And not having beer sucks.
So, not being able to relax and drink beer.
Because I can't lean back in that chair.
So, I'm alternating between it and the picnic table.
It's significantly less fun.
Oh, cool.
Rooftop tent.
Than camping when I can do both of those things.
Definitely should have at least
thrown some whiskey in my bag.
I just seriously thought I'd be able to buy beer.
Cold beer.
Thought I was gonna do it anyway.
And I was like, nah, I got this.
It turns out, I don't got this.
I'm guessing, because the boat ramp is right here,
it's gonna be possible to sneak down to the water.
It's quiet as hell.
That's pretty.
There's the lodge.
Speed's walking, I gotta tell you that.
Go back to camp, have some cocoa.
That's all I have to drink.
And water.
Settle in.
Oh, hi Chipmunk.
You almost died.
That's sad, really.
That's the lake.
There she is.
The mountains.
Looks like that rain's gonna miss us.
I hope so. Cool.
Alright, well,
as you can see,
campsite is all packed up.
It's about 7.30 in the morning.
We're off about 6. Didn't sleep super well.
And I'm just kinda eager to get home.
So I packed everything up.
I'm gonna get on the bike and get out of here.
I'm eager to get on the road before the traffic hits.
Before it gets too hot.
I'll leave my fire poker and a little bit of wood that I didn't use.
Bye campsite.
On the road again.
7.25, back on the road.
I need gas.
That's the lake.
Goodbye lake. See you next time.
The Versys has performed admirably.
There's barely a difference.
Suspension wise you can tell it, but performance wise
with all this weight, I barely notice it.
Pretty much just gets up and goes
like it always does.
Plenty of power coming up and over the hills.
No problems.
Nay problems.
Nay. Nay problems.
I just want to say thank you very much
for coming with me. I appreciate you.
Thanks for watching. Please don't forget to like and subscribe if you haven't.
And as always, don't forget
to be excellent to each other.
Thank you.
