There are many amazing cruise ports all over the globe. Here is the first episode of 50 Amazing Cruise Ports.
Where to cruise can be a big question for an experienced cruiser, just as it can be a puzzle for someone trying to take their first cruise. When in a conversation about cruise ports, it can turn into an enjoyable ambition. It certainly inspired us to make a compilation video. However, we have filmed so many ports it will take more than one ten-minute film to even touch the possibilities. We hope this video makes you feel like you want to cruise and that there are many ports and routes yet to discover.
The Music on our films is normally by Quincas Moreira. The Cruise Doris Visits Theme - HAPPY CRUISERS is by Mark Blackledge
So there are a number of ways to spell Cephalonia,
but let's assume that this one could be right.
We're on shipwreck B.
Just behind our boat is the island of St. Nevis.
And the mountains are covered in snow and look spectacular.
And this is P&O Aurora's last cruise as a family ship.
After this, it goes into Brest and it's being converted.
Very hot, 40 degrees, but despite the heat,
the game here is rugby.
Welcome to Martinique, famous for its beautiful beaches.
And the way to get there is to get the ferry here.
Is this a good look?
I'm told it often names in Norway.
Picket fences.
But what is actually underneath me is nothing.
It makes you feel really funny.
The other Skywalks we've done are Madeira.
You may have seen that on Doris Visits
or the Grand Canyon, which not too many ships go to.
The ship has docked at Limassol,
which is a container port about a mile west
of the city center.
So we're going to jump on the shuttle bus to take us in.
The main feature here is a retirement home
for an old Roman emperor.
Guess where we are?
Behind me is the Mississippi River Bridge.
You can see our ship, the Ventura.
City of New Orleans.
Look at those VJs.
Today we're in Honolulu and we're visiting Pearl Harbor.
All the huts were open last night, selling fresh food.
There were kids playing.
It was all lit up, so it was lovely.
Unfortunately, you can't see any of that right now.
Via Vittoria Manella is the main street of Palermo.
As you see on the wall, we are full of victims.
A million of dollar.
If you see the cocaine, heroin, hashish in the same here
is 122 million, some more.
This really is a family business.
We decided to walk up the steps
rather than queue for the elevator
because there was a long queue.
And the tourist office is right in the middle of the square.
We've arrived at Paphos.
It's a tender port where the castle is right near
where the tender stops.
The original castle was destroyed in the earthquake
and it was rebuilt in the 13th century in the port.
You can really imagine the layout, how it was.
These pillars they've uncovered
just really give the atmosphere,
the Greek atmosphere.
Grand Anse beach is about seven miles from the port
and one dollar on a public bus
is a pretty good deal to get here.
Alta is a small, beautiful town.
Make any of these statues.
A few of them.
Amber Cove has a totally different feel
to the other cruise ports.
It's purpose-built.
It's kind of like a theme park.
These are the legendary walls from Troy VI
and if Helen did exist,
she would have existed within these walls.
It's very easy to get here from the ship on a local bus.
How do I stop?
So the taxi here cost other cruisers 30 US dollars.
It cost us four.
So the food was free.
The bridge was completed in 1932
and it was all done without the aid of safety harnesses.
And the medieval architecture makes it look like fairyland.
If you come to La Toca,
please don't miss out on the beauty of Fiji.
Take a trip to an island, get a local bus.
Is there a bus that goes to first landing?
Classic bus, yes.
If you want to do a real local adventure,
the classic bus takes you along the beach road.
Okay, be careful with this stuff.
This is called kava
and it's actually a hallucinogenic drug.
It can make you hallucinate.
It's actually illegal.
We're in the middle of Sweden
and we can't get away from these guys.
Obviously, we made the film with status quo in Fiji.
Now we're in Stockholm and so are they.
Halfway, I reckon.
Get the cab to the top and start your day there
and then just gently walk down.
Cabo Frio has nine white sandy beaches
and Fort Beach, that takes the names from the fort,
is seven and a half kilometers of white sand.
The beach is stunning, but the water's cold.
Don't walk past this.
Look for the bear statue.
It's a lovely museum.
And here's a bear artist,
not in the naked sense of the word.
Welcome to the island of Buque,
in the Grenadine Islands.
He's absolutely wet.
At the top of the steps,
there's a viewing platform with great views.
Down there, you can see Catalan Bay.
This is the Spanish side.
And down in the harbor is the Spirit of Discovery.
Welcome to Cartagena, Port of Culture.
As we looked online, we're going straight in,
she says smugly.
And the second thing is, I allow a lot of time.
You can spend up to four hours here.
If you come to Dubai on a cruise ship,
the Gold Souq and the Spice Souq
are conveniently situated just a stone's throw away.
This is the Spice Souq and I wish this was Smelly Vision
because it smells amazing.
Every stone imaginable.
Once you walk across the bridge,
you're at the Customs Building
and behind the Customs Building
is the Declaration of Independence.
You can get a copy of it and feel free to sign it.
Welcome to Zakintos, it's a tender port.
If you want to get a ferry to another island,
at the end of the harbor walk
is Key West Bight Ferry Terminal.
If this phone rings,
it's Abba calling.
It will lift up to let the ship out again.
Behind me is Buckingham Palace
and I'm crossing St. James' Park
in search of Clarence House.
Lily Langtry lived at number 21 Pond Street from 1890
and this is where Edward and Lily
would come for their private dinner.
They would come in through this door.
This part here is where Charles Dickens
used to come and dine.
It's the very table where Lily Langtry
would have sat with Edward VII
and there would have been a curtain across.
Usually on display in the shop windows.
Right, like in Amsterdam.
And I have to say, it's a question of taste.
There is the square here with the Beatles
and then further down on the right,
the Indra Club, which is a bit smaller
and that's where they really started first of all.
Great.
So let's go this way.
Yeah, let's go and have a look.
So we're in the Beatles' story
in the heart of Liverpool.
They're going to tell me all about it
and I'll tell you all about it.
We're nearly there
and we're on the escalator
for the final leg.
And so that's a local dish?
Yeah.
A Carlos Triton.
You'll know it because of the huge statue
of King José mounted on his horse in the middle.
If you want the trendy side of Lisbon,
keep on walking
and the Time Out building is behind you
and it's so worth a visit.
So we've arrived at the palace.
It's just one straight road down
and it's an 18 minute walk
after the 18 minutes on the train.
Not far.
And the royal family often used to take a boat down here
on sunny afternoons to enjoy themselves.
If you want to go into Bruges,
the station is just under the Mercure Hotel
just across the road.
Two for one.
Bargain.
To travel back in time.
To Bruges.
It is.
We arrived at Tunis.
Unfortunately, it's raining.
Many of the shops and buildings have roof gardens
which offer a panoramic view.
Whose bed was that?
The bed of the king.
This was the bed of the last king of Tunisia.
So, the $10 million question.
Do you have a balcony or do you not?
Today, it's really worth it.
We've arrived at the walled city of Medina.
This is the queue to get into John's Coat Cathedral.
Rotterdam was completely flattened during World War II
and now has been totally built up to a thriving metropolis.
Nicknamed the Sistine Chapel of Rotterdam
because of its impressive ceiling,
the 11,000 square meters of artwork
was designed by Arno Coenen.
Now, we're just going on a special trip
in the window cleaner's gantry.
No, we're not.
We're in Stockholm
and we're going to take you back to the 70s.
The Abbe Museum is over there
behind the Tivoli Funfair.
In 1628, Vasa set sail on her maiden voyage
and here it is in all its glory
and then it sank in Stockholm Harbour.
Stockholm is a collection of islands joined by bridges.
We're going to look at the old town
and starting with the king's residence.
When you get off the shuttle behind me
over the other side of the bridge,
you walk across the bridge.
This is the ferry to Djurgården.
It's one stop on the way,
but two stops on the way back
because it stops off at a little island.
So, don't jump off there.
Just walked up from the ferry.
The Tivoli amusements are on my right
and Abbe Museum is on my left.
It's very easy to find.
You just walk all the way up the main street
and it's up by the fire station.
Unfortunately, though, there's no disabled access.
So, bear that in mind.
Take some water, but don't get it taken by the monkeys.
If you want to,
you can actually walk down through the nature reserve,
although it's a four kilometre walk.
So, you don't even need a ticket to come up.
The most ancient Doric temple in Western Greece
dates back to the 6th century BC
and was built for Apollo.
And just behind it is a market.
The cathedral was built on top of the Temple of Athena
using the original Doric columns.
If you arrive in Edinburgh by ship,
you might be lucky enough to be at the new ocean terminal.
Dubrovnik is considered the jewel in the Adriatic coastline.
And it seems that today the buzzword is Game of Thrones.
We've actually arrived in Mykonos.
It's the first time we've got in.
And now we can get the shuttle bus,
which is over there with the tour coaches,
or we can get the sea bus, which is two euros.
Perfect.
Yes, please. Ice cream.
Madam, yes, please.
Opala.
Ice cream.
Yes, please.
Yes, OK.
OK. Shall I take it?
Opala.
Thank you. Very good.
Very good.
One minute, big ice cream.
Wow.
Yes, please.
Oh, yes, please.
Yes, ice cream. Very good.
It's for Peter.
OK.
Where are you from?
From England.
England. Opala. Ice cream.
Oh.
Thank you.
Very good.
This looks nice.
Excellent.
Perfect.
Yes, here.
Thank you.
Have a nice day.
Ice cream.

Opala.

One minute.
Yes, here.
Thank you very much.
Thank you.
Have a nice day.
What's your name?
Serkan.
Yes.
Look out for part two of Where to Cruise Next.
There are an awful lot of cruise ports in the world
and they don't fit into 10 minutes.
Please subscribe to Doris Visits
and share with your cruise friends.
