A certified hand-picked for you selection, this is Monarda Bubble Gum Blast, part of the Sugar
Buzz series, raised by Hans Hansen at Walters Gardens. Now we've had the pleasure of evaluating
this plant since 2013, and during that time we found, along with the other experts that are part
of the hand-picked for you community, that this is a really excellent performer. We love the short
stocky habit of it. We like the really good free flowering habit, the short stocky bushy stems that
it produces, and also of course the fact that it's continually producing lots of flower bud that
keeps the color going through. And then when they begin to open, look at this, the flowers open with
this unusual kind of coxcomb shape. Then as the flowers begin to develop further, they open all
the way around to show off all of this glorious hot pink color. Add to that the fact that these
beautiful little flowers are packed with loads of nectar, so things like butterflies and hummingbirds
and of course the odd human being every now and then, will definitely be very much attracted to
this lovely variety. So hearty, reliable, hybrid of a native species, it'll grow in a sunny or
partially shaded site, though I have to say I prefer growing it in a sunny place. Just make
sure that you add plenty of organic matter to the soil and mulch it too, because they do better when
they've got a cool moist root run. This is Minerda Bubble Gum Blast.
