DHL Fastest Lap Award: 2025 Singapore GP (Lewis Hamilton / Ferrari)

Lewis Hamilton won his first DHL fastest lap award at 2025 at the Singapore Grand Prix, a race the seven-time world champion has won on four occasions. The conditions at Marina Bay are notoriously tough and this year's race was the first to run under the FIA's new heat hazard designation. Cars had cooling devices fitted and drivers had the option to wear special suits to help reduce core body temperature. Some wore them, some didn't. Hamilton had a mixed Friday practice, P4 in the first session, just P10 in the more representative second. However, he pulled out the stops when it mattered, qualifying sixth for Sunday's race, one place better than Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc. In the drag race off the line, Lewis lost out to Charles, dropping to seventh place and that would be how they finished. It was Hamilton's former Mercedes colleague George Russell on pole and the Briton went on to win his second Grand Prix of the year. Behind him, the battle for the podium places was fought out by Lando Norris and Max Verstappen, with Oscar Piastri trailing a little after losing out in a lap one battle with his McLaren teammate. Hamilton and Leclerc briefly switched places once the Brit had pitted on lap 46 for the soft compound, his tyres being the better option with which to chase down Kimi Antonelli in P5. He didn't manage the pass, so he gave back the place before the flag. But on lap 48, whilst closing in on the Italian rookie, Hamilton bagged the fastest tour of the circuit. Sector one was done in 27.993 seconds and the next in 39.392. Those two sectors purple better than anyone else on the day. The final sector was completed at a relatively leisurely 26.423 for a combined time over the line of 1 minute 33.808. So Lewis Hamilton becomes the sixth driver to take a fastest lap this season. Norris still leads the pack with six to his name, one more than title rival and teammate Piastri.
