Day three of the 2021 Touratech Rally West was probably the most eventful and packed full of the entire event for me. After enjoying the first two days of the 2021 Touratech Rally, I decided it was high time I wandered over and checked out vendor row. I was able to meet with and learn all about great products from amazing vendors like Hippo Hands, Heidenau tires, Law Tigers, Atlas Throttle Lock, TrailTech, Triumph Motorcycles, Harley Davidson, and more. I also had a chance to take a very close look at the 2021 Touratech Rally Black Forest Funduro course. After checking out Vendor Row, I had the opportunity to do a short Yamaha TW200 Test Ride (thanks to BrYan from Hippo Hands letting me take his for a spin) before we suited up and headed out to ride an amazing route that took us to the top of Chumstick Mountain with some amazing views and great riding on the Suzuki DRZ400 and Honda Africa Twin. The fun didn't stop there, though. Once we got back to camp we were treated to whiskey and bacon courtesy of Atlas Throttle Lock. Later that evening, we checked in with Nathan and Kris from For the Love of Knobs before heading over to check out the bonfire and enjoy a pleasant evening with all the other great participants at the Touratech Rally 2021!
Tour Attack Day 2.
Here's Bendero.
I've been called worse.
Look at that deep ass sand.
Brian from Hipple Hands is gonna let me take out a CW200.
This is the maple bar.
This is the greatest hobby in history.
Oh water crossing, water crossing!
So Heidi's offering me whiskey and bacon to which I'm saying yes.
Check out this hat.
Previously on Lost.
Quite chilly this morning.
Hey what you doing there?
And I have a vending machine for meat.
I think I got a centipede in my helmet.
Look at him go.
Can you believe this?
Nathan's not even drinking.
That's just how he talks.
And now the conclusion.
Good morning.
Tour Attack Day 2.
Yesterday was fun.
Helped, helped.
Beards changed attire.
Rode up to the Tyee Mountain Lookout.
Came back at dinner.
Hung out around a fire pit with some of my neighbors here.
Drank several beverages.
Enjoyed a Mr. Puff Puff.
And got to bed a little later than I was expecting to.
But slept cozy and comfy in my trailer setup.
Thank you trailer setup.
So plan for today.
Have some coffee.
Maybe a little food.
We're gonna go ride at some point.
I also kind of want to check out the village area.
All right well I'm gonna have some coffee.
Maybe make a bagel.
And talk to you guys in a bit.
I'm gonna walk you guys around camp a bit.
So you get an idea what it's like to be here at this event.
I always hate when people make videos of events.
And then you never actually get to see what it's like to be at the event right.
You just see the inside of the camper.
So this is truck and trailer parking.
Where I'm parked.
Morning.
And then over there.
You can't see it.
Is the tent stuff.
We'll walk past it.
You can see over there.
It's kind of sparse.
The motorcycle parking I think.
The threat of rain.
Plus everything else going on in the world right now.
It's really depressed the turnout.
And then over here is the vendor area.
And all that.
And that's where we're headed.
Travis's tent.
There's Chris and Nathan's tent.
There's a guy on the GS.
Here's vendor row.
There's the demo rides.
Morning.
And then over there is where the magic happens.
Triumph KTM.
Harley's in the corner behind that tent.
You can't see.
This is Brian with a Y.
That's important from Hippo Hands.
And they're here repping their awesome products.
You want to talk a little bit about them?
Yeah, sure.
We've got a couple products out here.
This is the Backcountry.
It's for enduro bikes, dirt bikes, stand and ride.
Smaller version.
And then this is the Rogue model.
It's on the ADV bikes, commuters.
Kind of a midsize.
We have one larger size that some of these guys are getting out here today because it's so rainy.
So just keeping your hands warm and dry on wet cold days.
It's exactly the right time of year to be looking for this type of product.
Because it'll extend your riding season.
And it makes a big difference.
Yeah, awesome, man.
And I'll put a link to the website.
I mean, you guys know Hippo Hands, but just so it's convenient in the description.
What's up, man?
How are you?
Good.
I'm Ben.
I know you're Ben, but I actually don't know you're Ben.
I know you're Dork.
Oh, yeah.
Well, you can call me whatever you want.
No, I'll call you Ben.
I've been called worse.
Hide Now.
Yes, sir.
You guys, you want to talk about what you're doing out here and what people need to know about?
Well, we're just out preaching the gospel about Hide Now tires.
Let you know what a fantastic product we make.
Specifically at this show right now, we are showing off the new K60 Ranger.
So when the K60 Scout was first introduced, immediately people asked us for a much more
aggressive tire.
Hide Now finally came through with that.
Very cool.
So this is the new hotness from Hide Now right now.
That's a good looking tire.
We always want more aggressive, right?
Like, can it be too aggressive?
People do always want more aggressive.
Now, how much they're actually using that, I don't know.
But what's nice about this, this will give them an aggressive tire performance, but it
will also give the longevity.
So it's not going to burn up on the street.
Is it going to last as long as a Scout?
No.
It doesn't cost as much as a Scout, but it's still going to deliver the performance you
want.
Very cool.
It's a Goldilocks tire.
Long lasting, but good traction when you want it.
I don't know.
Did Goldilocks really last that long?
I guess that didn't work out too well.
No, I just started over on that one.
Yeah, OK.
So I don't know what to tell you.
It's a Hide Now.
That's the new name for it.
So this is Derek with, I can't see the logo.
That's right.
Law Tigers.
What's going on, man?
Tell us about what you're out here talking about.
Dude, you know, we're thrilled to be out here.
This is our second time here.
So first time in 27 months.
But all we do is represent injured motorcycle riders.
So we always hope that nobody ever needs our services, of course.
But we're always out here trying to support all types of the community.
This is my bike here.
So I'm a fellow dual sport rider, but you'll find us at ADV events like this, cruiser events,
big rallies, bike nights, all over the state of Washington.
So that's all we do.
Very cool.
That's a DR350, right?
It is.
Like the granddaddy of dual sports.
1996, you know.
So about 300 pounds, six-speed transmission, every bit of attractiveness.
Oh, no.
That you can handle on something like this.
Yeah.
I've had it for about six years now, and I think I'll have it for,
all goes well, at least another 60.
11,000 miles?
11,000 miles.
It's been around.
Yeah, it's been around a little bit, especially for an old small motor like this.
Very cool, man.
It's got a lot of life left in it.
Another really cool thing we have here is the Black Forest Funduro Course
that I want to take a look at.
Holy crap.
So that's about a three-and-a-half, four-foot step up.
Damn, dude.
Might be a little over my head, but I want to take a look at it.
Track entrance.
Big-ass squirrel catcher right at the beginning.
Oh, yeah.
Look at the deep-ass sand.
I think I hate it already.
So this is the entrance.
Up over the logs.
Down and around through some sandy, sandy stuff.
Interesting.
So you're supposed to go this way.
So obstacles with sand.
Log into sand.
And then over a hill, over some more logs.
And then out through a rut.
Wow.
That's something.
Down through these ruddy washout things.
Fun.
Some obstacles in the middle.
They're just throwing logs in there to make it harder.
Got to ride around this log.
This is brutal.
And then some just tight stuff back in through the trees.
And come back out here.
Big log kicker.
Over here to the sandy pit.
Over a log into deep sand.
But you got to keep your momentum up to get either over this log or around it on the side hill.
Through this pit.
And then there's a log exit.
And then into a pile of bark dust.
That's brutal.
Then you come around here.
Through all this.
It's all loose.
It's a good thing it's not muddy.
I thought maybe if there was one or two obstacles, it looked like they might be a challenge for me.
But everything else was okay.
I might try this.
But looking at it, this is not my speed, friends.
Kudos to everyone that's out here doing this, especially on the big bikes.
Wow.
But yeah, I think I'm going to skip it this year.
Very cool.
Very well designed course.
It's just not very dorky.
You know what I mean?
Not very dorky.
So I'm here with Jim, who's out here with Harley doing the test rides for the Panamericas.
And I just want to talk a little bit about what you guys are out here doing
and how people can get involved.
Hey, Dork in the Road.
I've seen your channel, man.
Good stuff.
Thanks for coming out.
Well, thank you.
We're doing demos with the Harley Davidson Panamerica.
So as long as you meet our requirements for all the gear, we'll get you out on the road.
Quick orientation, waiver section.
And then we'll get you out in some of this beautiful Pacific Northwest.
We also have a small little cone course to understand slow speed maneuverability,
right?
Which everybody wants to know.
And if we're feeling frisky here later on, we might initiate our small trails course.
Cool.
Very cool.
So you actually get a chance to get a little off road.
That's a question everybody always has is like, what's it like off road?
And I appreciated the opportunity to do that at Giant Loop too.
Yeah, good.
Yeah, it was good to see you out there.
Yeah.
Awesome.
Well, thanks, man.
Check out my Harley Davidson Panamerica test ride video if you haven't.
But fun, fun bike.
Definitely check one out if you get a chance.
So this is Daniel with Triumph.
You guys want to talk a little bit about what kind of bikes are you showing off?
And what are people doing out here?
Absolutely.
So today we've got a little bit of the fleet.
The bikes that are going to be most appropriate for this type of adventure riding, getting
a little off road.
We've got the Street Scrambler.
We've got the Tiger 900 Rally Series.
We also have the GT Series, but in the low seat height version.
We've also got a couple iterations of the Scrambler 1200.
So we've got a few options from Triumph to be able to get out and get in the dirt.
And I heard that the course is mostly off road, right?
You got the track you guys are taking?
Yeah, we're following a route that KTM, Honda, and Triumph that we did a few years back in
2019, where you basically, you know, peel off down the little bit of pavement, and then
you get off road into forest service roads.
I mean, that's what everybody here is looking to do.
And that's what we want to do with these bikes.
Yeah, I appreciate that.
It's a rare opportunity to test ride an off road bike off road.
You always just have to kind of guess.
Yeah, you know, it feels like it'd be all right.
So that's great.
That's where these bikes are really in their element.
I mean, I have so much fun on this Street Scrambler, but all these Scramblers 1200s
are just, they're big dirt bikes.
You know, they're a lot of fun out here.
It feels right.
You know, it's kind of got this old school vibe to it too.
So it's this big dirt bike.
It's got a little bit of weight to it, but you can slide it around and have fun.
It's a good looking motorcycle.
Yep.
All right, man.
I appreciate it.
Thank you.
You're so charismatic.
They weren't lying.
This is Chris and Nathan's camp.
And he's got double layer coverage.
And then right next to them is Travis camping out.
But this field is pretty empty.
I think date change, plus kids are in school, plus fire, plus rain, plus everything else
going on in the world.
It's just, you got some privacy even.
I'm going to go ride a TW 200, I think.
It's going to be bad because I'm going to go and buy one.
Brian with a Y from Hippo Hands is going to let me take out a TW 200.
So the moment we've long been waiting for is here.
I'm going to go putt around the field.
Pretty awesome.
This is probably the start of a series of decisions that are going to end with a bad,
a big bad decision.
That's my guess.
It is not powerful, but oh, it's fun.
Oh, it's fun.
Low to the ground, light, shall we say.
Measured throttle response, stiff suspension on this, on this bumpy stuff.
But you can stand up.
I think a little could ride this.
That is fun.
Let's go a little faster.
G-dubs.
It's just fun.
What is exactly what I expected it to be?
It's kind of an underpowered fun, like a big grom, like a heavy grom.
It's all more powerful grom.
I think, I think a little could ride this.
She could ride this.
It feels like an old carbureted bike.
Suspension feels stiffer than I expected, but it's got a lot of tire bounce.
I don't know.
I think this could be a good bike for a little.
What do you guys think?
TW 200 power.
That's too fun.
My hands are very warm.
Hipplehands.com.
Check them out.
That's fun.
Thanks, man.
Yeah, of course.
I didn't even see it when we were in there before, and then Nathan told me about it.
It's like, you're kidding me.
I want to crawl inside that thing.
Like, babe, I'm divorcing you.
I want to marry this meat machine.
And also, I want you to call me meat machine from now on.
Oh, it's literally right there.
It's more than bacon.
That's like pork belly.
This is the maple bar that Beards just picked up with delicious bacon sprinkles.
So far, a very positive impression.
And I got the chicken fried steak, which you know I love.
Get a look at this.
It's not quite black beer, but I bet it's real good.
This biscuit, look, hand for scale.
Beards for scale.
Large biscuit.
Good looking potatoes.
Excited to dig into this.
Old Mill Cafe.
Do recommend.
So we're going to go ride Chumstick Route 7, and I'm going to navigate with Gaia GPS.
So Gaia is one of the most popular off-road GPS apps out there.
Lots of people here use it.
You can import your own tracks.
It's pretty cool to navigate.
And we're using tracks for everything out here.
So I imported one file with all the tracks, and then I can select them individually.
So I just have Chumstick kind of brought up here.
And if you want to check out Gaia 1, they have a free option or a free version, which
you should just download and check out if you're at all interested.
But there's also a link in the description you can use to get 20% off a premium subscription
if you choose to do that.
That is an affiliate link, but it doesn't pay that much.
I mostly signed up for the affiliate program so I could offer a discount to those of you
that wanted to use it.
Let's see if it works.
See if we get there.
I'm told by Nathan this is a fabulous route.
And Chumstick is a fun name to say.
Yeah, plus we get to say Chumstick all day.
Can't argue with that.
All right, good to know this is here.
It's not quite zero brown 30.
But you're going to hit up that tabletop jump right in the middle there.
Um, yes, but not like in any impressive way.
This is a campsite, dude.
Crazy.
Look at where you are.
Oh, my God.
Look at those roads just snaking.
Yeah.
Oh, the weather looks nicer over there.
A little sunnier on that side.
This is the greatest hobby in history.
Uh-huh.
Look where you get to go.
Yep.
Is that then Taiyi?
Oh, I bet it is.
Yeah.
So over there, that mountain, the one that's above us is where we were yesterday.
Sorry, a barking frog just ran by.
Oh, didn't smell good either.
Jump it.
Oh, my God.
That sitting down is the best way to jump.
That's a guy coming down the right side.
Right side.
That's a good thing I was just on the left.
We'd have nailed each other.
That's a coincidence.
Good thing I wasn't riding right.
I went to the left automatically just before you said that because I was avoiding a rock
and I just stayed over there.
Yep. Well, that seemed like the better line, but it just worked out.
Sometimes you get lucky.
The guy's up here by himself.
We got some real rock up here.
Stuff.
Left side's less of it, but it's a rut.
Okay.
Here we are on top of Chumstick Mountain.
Sorry about the wind.
We're on top of a mountain.
There's Beards.
Amazing 360-degree view.
Cool ride up here, too.
Tour Attack, guys.
Badass.
You should come next year.
Boy, that does just drop right the hell off right there, doesn't it?
Yeah.
This is fun.
And then go right.
Yeah, go right.
There's a line on the right.
I just stayed left.
This is actually pretty fun going bumping down this.
This is cool.
That would have made good footage, too.
Look at this.
All the way down the rocks.
The narration really makes it for me.
Yeah.
Like you got a tuba following you around.
Water crossing, water crossing.
Yay.
Is your camera going?
Don't get excited.
Oh, there's two of them.
Two water crossings.
Yeah, I'm gonna crush it.
Oh.
Nailed it.
I was, uh, when you reacted that, and then I turned the corner.
Should have got, just stop and get the picture for water crossing Wednesday.
This is like walking the tightrope.
It really is.
This is off camera, too, a little bit.
There's a section on this trail that's marked significant rutting at caution point,
and here you can see why.
So we've been walking the tightrope down the center line for most of it.
I just didn't turn the camera on until we were through the worst course.
Oh, this looks fun.
Oh, this looks like a good job for me.
So everybody, um, I would go to the center on that one.
Wow, look at this one.
That's a hell of a hill climb, dude.
And that turn at the top.
God, no way.
Oh yeah, we are, look at this.
We're right into farmland.
Yeah, we are not that farm away.
Not a bad, not a bad view.
You got to wait for the rider to wave you by, if they wave you by at all.
Thank you.
I'm sure they see this often with all the trails up there.
It's been raining.
I didn't film the ride in much, but we did get pretty wet.
It's been raining on the way in.
So, but look, you can see there's a dry square under my pop-up.
So my crappy Walmart pop-up's doing its job.
That was a fun ride.
What a great route.
Gorgeous views.
Fun riding.
And exactly like my perfect level of challenge.
Like challenging, but not scary, difficult.
Or I feel like I'm over my head, like the solid 70% of my ability.
Beards is here.
He just arrived.
I brought you s'mores.
Oh, bro.
Even though we can't have a fire.
Yeah, our last trip.
Even better than digital s'mores.
Yeah.
All right, well, I'm going to have some Pop-Tarts, I guess.
And no, I'm not dieting this weekend, but I'm doing a lot of exercise and stuff.
So I'm sure I'm burning it all off.
It's a net zero.
Net zero.
This is, uh, this is Slow Eddie.
And you have a channel, right?
I do.
Yeah, so I will link that for you.
What's the name of it?
Slow Eddie's Motorcycle Travel.
It just changed.
So I wasn't sure which one it was.
I'm finding myself.
No, that's what you got to do.
And do it early.
We don't have any subscribers to confuse.
There are very few, right?
Exactly.
They say it's better to be lucky than good.
And well, definitely not good.
But it's raining and we've been back for not even half an hour.
We just got back and the rain is really coming down now.
So, uh, good timing.
Put my impressive moto cover on my motorcycle because why not?
I have it.
Keep it, keep it dry.
So Heidi's offering me whiskey and bacon, to which I'm saying yes.
What's up, man?
You're on YouTube.
Hey!
You're on the tube.
Hey, I'm on the tube.
Glad to have you here.
We're in, uh, in Plain Washington and we're doing the Tour Tech Rally.
We're here at Atlas Throttle Lock booth where we're having whiskey and bacon.
Man, that's the voice that's echoing, booming from the heavens.
And it's nice.
I get to hear you three times at once because over there it's all bouncing off the mountains.
So what's the, what's the technique?
Just eat this with the whiskey on?
I take a bite of the soaked bacon.
Okay.
And then I'll take a little bit of whiskey and then I'll just throw the whole bacon in
and whiskey and chew it all together.
It's like a sandwich.
A bonus bacon sandwich.
It's good.
Every time I see one of them, I'm like, I just need one more.
I could do one more.
That's good.
That might be my new favorite breakfast combination.
I know.
This is Heidi.
Hi, I'm Heidi with Atlas Throttle.
So far, so good.
We're crushing it.
Nailed it.
She's handing out whiskey, so it's the best booth here.
I'll tell you that much.
Duh.
What does the throttle lock do?
Okay, so it's like mechanical cruise control.
You mount it between your grip and your housing, just in that like narrow little crack.
So when you're cruising, you just turn it on.
It holds your throttle in place.
You can still manipulate your throttle and you just feel it kind of stick wherever you set it.
Nice.
And then when you're done, hit the X and you're right back to normal.
Very cool.
Yeah, they're all mounted.
You guys are going to slam.
That also smells good.
It has a certain porky note.
Yes, yeah.
A porky note?
A king sized pig.
Mm-hmm.
Nice.
We just never thought, really.
Not terrible.
That's one way to put it.
Very not terrible.
This is Kelly with Trail Tech.
So you want to tell us a little bit about what you guys are showing off?
Yeah, we make electronic gauges for bikes on all levels.
This is our smallest GPS, but it just draws a line.
There's no background map.
And then this is our Voyager Pro, which is our latest.
It's a color touchscreen.
And that's the one you can see your buddies on, right?
Yeah, it has buddy tracking.
So up to 20 people see everybody on the screen, stay out of the dust, just keep going.
Does a thing called buddy tails.
So if you come up to an intersection, there's nobody there.
You look down, you see the last guy went that way, and away you go.
That's cool.
So you don't have to do the old, you know, sitting in the dust, you know,
stopping, everybody's together, then wait.
Right.
Don't do that.
Just keep going.
Very cool.
Great for snow sports and sand sports because there's no roads.
You can keep your group together.
You can see where people are.
If I had friends, that would be amazing.
Yeah, you should get some friends.
There's other guys here.
One or two.
That's true.
This is the place to make friends.
Awesome.
Well, thank you, man.
Look at these guys.
They know how to, they know how to travel.
I'm going to add a little more of this chicken, chicken, bacon, potato, dumpling soup.
Not bad.
The chicken really helps.
I've definitely had worse camping food.
After the $9 burger I got on the first night, I decided to make my own.
I think this can of soup was $1.25.
We're walking over to the bonfire might be starting soon.
We're going to check that out.
Fire.
So cool bonfire.
Hey, cool hat.
Oil cooled.
Yeah.
Thank you.
Check out this hat.
Funny hat.
Just had a fun time hanging out with the Hippo Hands guys.
Cool company.
Cool product.
Cool dudes.
Check them out.
I will link in the description to their website.
So you can check out Hippo Hands.
They make hand guards that keep your hands warm when you're riding in the winter, which
I do because I ride all year round.
So had a few beers and going to have a few more.
Pretty exciting.
Go to our tech.
Hey, Chris and Nathan are here.
And they've been here the whole weekend.
And we've interacted with them on and off.
But we just can't cross paths when I'm filming.
So I want to make sure that you guys saw them and that you subscribe to For the Love of
Knobs.
And Chris was a co-champion of the Funduro course tonight.
She helped out with the final round, right?
As a passenger.
And she tackled the whole course by herself.
And I got no footage of it because I suck.
And it turns out she got a marriage proposal.
She got married.
She got married on the back of a motorcycle to somebody else, which was really exciting.
Is that legal in Washington?
Is that a Washington thing?
Well, it's so good to see you guys.
It's great to see you guys.
And I just want the people to see you and see that you're here and subscribe to your
channel because if they're not subscribed, what the hell are they doing with their lives?
We promise we'll put out content as soon as we can.
I think you're going to put a lot of content this winter when you're not busy every weekend.
Yes.
We're going to have a bike build, a DR350 bike build.
Thank you so much.
Beards Bikes and Camping.
I am so excited to see that.
Me too.
You were just saying that yesterday.
I'm ready for winter because I want to watch your videos.
You guys want some bourbon?
Yeah.
This is good.
This is getting your subs right now.
It's like, yeah.
That's good too.
Cheers to all of you dorky subscribers.
Hope you have a drink in your hand, a fresh...
I don't know if it's fresh, but it's definitely a wonderful beverage.
There's going to be...
I think I'm going to have so much content from this because I just have a lot of footage.
So I'm stoked.
What are we drinking here?
This is Larceny.
So it's one of the best.
It's cheaper, but it tastes like a more expensive bourbon.
I really like it a lot.
I'm not a bourbon person typically, and it's actually pretty good.
Bourbons are sweet.
I like that about them.
That's good.
Yeah.
I don't think I've ever had bourbon.
Makes it happen.
Well, day two.
Great fun.
Great riding.
Hanging out.
Cool evening with fun people, but it's cold and I'm going to bed.
So I'll catch up with you guys tomorrow.
Day three.
The big day.
The day of my presentation.
Saturday here at Touratech 2021.
Thank you for watching the video.
Hope you've enjoyed it.
If you haven't yet, please consider giving it a like and check out the next part of the video.
Part three.
The big, big day.
Touratech 2021.
I'm going to bed.
Good night.
Excellent!
Quick thinking MacGyver solution.
My Sea to Summit mug.
I stuck it under there.
Wow.
So Beers and I just test rode the Tiger 900 Rally Pro.
I'm going to get set up.
My presentation is in about an hour.
I forgot to turn the camera off.
We're going to watch the BDR presentation starring our friends.
But we're working on having our own route in the state of Oregon.
Slow race time.
Somebody go out there and kick the ball without getting hit by a motorcycle.
Please.
What a fun evening.
