Academy Award nominee Scarlett Johansson recently became the highest-grossing lead actor in Hollywood and is now taking on a new role as director of the film "Eleanor the Great." PBS News' Amna Nawaz sat down with Johansson to get her quick takes on her real life superpower, who she would take with her in case of a zombie apocalypse and what her favorite curse word is.
All right quick lightning round. You've played a superhero on the big screen.
Yeah. Do you have any real life superpowers? Like are you super good at puzzles or can you fold a
finished sheet? Anything like that. My gosh I would say I, oh well this is kind of a superpower,
but I can look, I can like eyeball a piece of furniture and I know if it's going to be able
to fit into space or not. Like within inches. That is useful. It is useful especially when
you're renovating. I mean there are apps for that. That's a good superpower. Okay,
what's the last thing that you googled? You don't have to prove it to us. The last thing
that I googled? Gosh it must have been something today. I, what could I have possibly googled? Is
there anything we're talking about? I'm trying to think. Well I think the last thing that I googled,
oh I know, but the last thing I googled, the last thing that I googled was,
I was curious about how the FCC was founded.
Did you find the answer? I did. It was Roosevelt who founded the FCC, which I actually didn't know
and I was thinking what a different time and what a different, what if, it seemed purposeful then.
Yes. So I was, yeah, I was curious. What a different time is a true statement. Okay,
it's a zombie apocalypse. You get to pick one actor that you've worked with in the past
to join you in your bunker. Who do you pick and why? Oh my gosh, that is so hard. Oh gosh,
I have so many friends that I would pick. Gosh, what I would choose. Doesn't have to be, you know,
this isn't the whole list, but just like one. Oh not the whole list. I would say, I don't know,
probably Sienna Miller. Because what does Sienna bring? She's just wonderful. I love, she's just,
we have, we laugh so much together. We're comfortable together. We could be ourselves
together. Okay. I feel like she would be a good problem solver. Okay. You know, and she's hilarious
and I think it's just really important to laugh if you're in a zombie apocalypse because, you know,
the outcomes bleak, right? Do you have a go-to karaoke song? Yes, New York State of Mind is my
go-to karaoke song. Okay. I love Billy Joel and I love New York City and it's a power ballad,
what can I say? Like everyone's going to stop with their watered-down drink and listen and sing
along. That's a good one. Do you have a favorite curse word and I don't know why I feel like you
would. My favorite curse word is probably, I don't know, I guess ************ because like you can
use it in so many different ways. Very versatile. Yeah, like it can be, it can be both like emphatic,
like something is great and then also when something like really sucks. Yeah and also
it's a great word to call somebody too. It's got, it's very versatile. Works on multiple levels.
Multiple levels. Okay, you have a very busy schedule, you've got a lot going on. In your
most exhausted moments or even your toughest moments, is there a thing you tell yourself?
Is there a phrase you return to? A song you listen to? Like what is it that keeps you going
in those tough times? Oh man, probably this too shall pass. I think that's an important,
you know, mantra for me anyway. Just to know that everything changes and, you know,
when things are difficult they'll, will, you'll, you know, it will, circumstances will change and
you'll move through it and sometimes they get worse and then at some point they'll get better
and that's an important, you know, in whatever discomfort that you're feeling, it's temporary.
That's a good one. Thank you, Carla. Thank you.
