Dangerous flooding has struck Bulgaria's Black Sea coast.
Within just 48 hours, relentless rainfall has turned entire towns into rivers.
Streets have disappeared, bridges have collapsed,
and more than a hundred cars have been swept into the sea.
People trapped inside homes and hotels have struggled to escape
as powerful torrents of water rush through the region.
I don't know.
Look, there's a car over there.
Let's go, let's go.
The car is down there.
Let's go.
Wow, look what's going on.
Two days of heavy and continuous rainfall
have caused catastrophic flooding across southeastern Bulgaria.
The Black Sea coastline and the Burgas region are among the worst affected.
Meteorological data confirms rainfall totals
between 450 and 500 millimeters in many areas,
some of the heaviest rain recorded in decades.
The Elenite resort complex, a popular tourist destination,
has been hit especially hard.
A mountain ravine overflowed after hours of torrential rain,
sending raging floodwaters through hotels, streets, and residential neighborhoods.
Entire complexes were submerged within minutes,
leaving residents and tourists stranded.
Authorities have confirmed at least 12 fatalities.
Among the victims were local residents trapped in flooded basements
and four rescue workers who were swept away while attempting emergency evacuations.
Officials warn that the number of casualties may still rise,
as many people remain missing.
Several families were rescued by firefighters using ropes and ladders,
while others were evacuated from rooftops and second-story windows.
Helicopters hovered overhead, pulling stranded people to safety.
The force of the water has been devastating.
More than 100 vehicles were washed away,
many seen tumbling into the sea as floodwaters overwhelmed coastal roads.
Video footage shows cars, buses,
and even trucks floating uncontrollably before being dragged into the waves.
Entire roads have vanished underwater.
Bridges collapsed one after another, unable to withstand the massive pressure.
Concrete slabs, iron railings, and debris were carried downstream,
blocking vital transportation routes.
Communication has been cut off to several towns,
making rescue operations extremely difficult.
Residential areas have suffered severe damage.
In some neighborhoods, water rose to the second floor of houses.
Furniture, appliances, and personal belongings floated through submerged streets.
Small businesses, shops, and markets were completely inundated,
leaving owners devastated.
Coastal infrastructure, including ports and seawalls, has also been heavily damaged.
Entire market squares have vanished beneath muddy torrents,
and coastal defenses collapsed like paper under the pressure of storm surges.
A state of emergency has been declared in Burgas, Vidin, and Pernik regions.
More than 80 rescue personnel, including fire brigades, divers, and military units, have been deployed.
The Bulgarian Navy has dispatched boats to evacuate residents along the coast,
while amphibious vehicles are being used in areas cut off by floodwaters.
Despite their efforts, the situation remains critical.
Strong currents continue to hinder rescue operations,
and heavy equipment has struggled to access the worst-hit zones.
Volunteers have joined emergency crews,
forming human chains to help people escape through rushing water.
As rescue and recovery operations continue,
many families remain displaced, and entire communities are left in ruins.
Roads, bridges, homes, and businesses have been destroyed,
while survivors face an uncertain future.
This disaster highlights once again the uncontrollable power of nature,
and how quickly lives can change when extreme weather strikes.
Natural disasters can strike at any time, without warning.
Always follow the instructions of local authorities during emergencies.
Avoid unnecessary travel.
Stay away from floodwaters and downed power lines.
