Hi everyone, I'm Tara and today I'm taking a beginner archery lesson.
Okay, I'm at Boardman Archery School and this is my instructor staff.
So, this is really exciting, so how do we start?
Well, the first thing we need to do is check your dominant eye.
At Boardman Archery School, we teach dominant eye so that it makes it a little bit easier
for you to figure out how to get the arrows to go where you want them to go.
Okay, so the first thing I'm going to get you to do from Tara is make a small triangle like that.
You're going to open it up at arm's length.
You're going to keep both of your eyes open and you're going to look through it right here at me.
And I see that you are left eye dominant.
So, the first thing we're going to have to do is get you geared up with some safety gear.
You're going to learn on a recurve.
Okay, so this is a three-piece recurve.
This is your handle or riser.
Parts of the handle called your limbs.
You have a string, this little brass thing is called a nocking point, and an arrow rest.
These two little pieces are very important.
They keep the arrow in the same place every time.
If it's not, everything else changes.
So, we want to get you consistent right off the bat.
So, I'm going to get you to put a foot on either side of the line.
Okay, so I'm just going to get you to move your bow here by turning it off.
Now, it's important that you don't put a death arrow on this.
You actually want to.
So, we're going to get you to pick that up.
That'll actually draw the shoulder.
And we'll take that a little bit.
So, I'm going to put it there.
Okay, go ahead and let her go.
Okay, that's the first one out of the way.
Place your hand as close as you can to the arrow.
The other hand is just as close.
Look behind you as you're holding it out.
And you can place it down there.
Go for your next one.
So, you can attract.
Behind you, make sure there's nobody in your area.
Close to you.
There you go.
Excellent.
Just for fun, Steph put a balloon on my target.
I also tried a compound bow, which is a bit smaller and uses a system of pulleys, so it requires less force to draw it back.
Okay, my lesson is over.
It was so much fun.
It definitely takes a lot more strength than I expected.
But it's not that hard, actually.
Thank you so much to Steph from Boardman Archery.
Thanks for watching.
