Welcome to my European adventure.
Over the next 15 days, I'll take you with me on a journey through breathtaking landscapes,
rich history, and unforgettable experiences.
From spa luxury at the five-star Grand Resort Bad Ragas in Switzerland, to lakeside living
at the five-star Grand Hotel Fasano on Lake Garda, and finally, a royal stay at the five-star
Waldorf Astoria Versailles.
Trianon Palace just steps from the palace itself.
This trip was as much about where we stayed as what we explored.
This is the story of my 15-day European vacation.
Let's dive in.
Our journey began in Switzerland, where we stayed at the legendary Grand Resort Bad Ragas,
a five-star retreat famed for its thermal waters.
Beyond the thermal spa, the resort offered a wealth of amenities.
Guests can enjoy two championship golf courses, world-class tennis facilities.
The property also features a variety of restaurants and fine dining options.
From this luxurious base, we set out on a bike ride through the Swiss countryside.
We peddled past rolling meadows, traditional wooden chalets, and snow-capped peaks in the distance.
Along the way, we saw cows grazing freely, their cowbells echoing softly through the
valley, a sound that felt timeless and uniquely Swiss.
On one day, we took the train to Chur, Switzerland's oldest city.
Simply walking its winding streets and stopping for lunch in the old town felt like a step
back in time.
On another day, we took the train again, this time to Zurich, where the rhythm shifted from
rustic to cosmopolitan.
We strolled the cobblestone streets, browsed boutiques, and visited the exclusive Odemars
Piguet House, a temple of Swiss watchmaking excellence.
Switzerland gave us the perfect start to our journey, a mix of luxury, history, authentic
culture, and unforgettable alpine landscapes.
Next, we crossed into northern Italy, where we stayed at the luxurious Grand Hotel Fasano,
a five-star hotel located directly on the shores of Lake Garda, in the elegant town
of Gardone Riviera.
One of the highlights of our stay was a four-hour private boat tour that began right from the
hotel's own pier.
Our captain Dave welcomed us aboard and guided us across the lake with warmth and local knowledge.
We cruised past stunning scenery and stopped first in Limone Sul Garda, a picturesque village
famous for its lemon groves and colorful waterfront.
Later, we arrived in Sirmione, where we explored the impressive Scaliger Castle, a medieval
fortress rising dramatically out of the water.
Midway through the journey, we stopped at a lakeside restaurant reserved just for us,
where we celebrated our 17th wedding anniversary.
The chef presented a beautifully prepared salt-crusted branzino served at an outdoor
table with a perfect view of the shimmering lake.
On another day, we traveled to Verona, a city steeped in romance and history.
We visited Juliette's House with its iconic balcony that has inspired lovers for centuries,
and we explored the ancient Roman Colosseum, still standing proudly in the heart of the
city.
Walking through Verona felt like stepping into both Shakespeare's world and Italy's
deep past.
Italy was also the food highlight of our entire trip.
From fresh lake fish and handmade pastas to local wines, every meal was a celebration.
Lake Garda was the crown jewel, combining history, luxury, romance, and world-class
cuisine in one of the most memorable parts of our journey.
The final leg of our adventure took us to Paris and Versailles.
We stayed at the Waldorf Astoria Versailles, Trianon Palace, a five-star hotel located
right on the very grounds of the Palace of Versailles.
For this last leg of the trip, our son flew in to join us, making the Paris and Versailles
experience even more meaningful.
That very evening, our first night in France, we indulged in a 12-course dinner at the Michelin-starred
Gordon Ramsay Restaurant inside the hotel.
Every dish was a masterpiece.
Together we explored Paris' iconic landmarks.
The Arc de Triomphe, the Eiffel Tower, the majestic Notre Dame Cathedral, and cozy neighborhoods
filled with vintage shops.
We also enjoyed some unforgettable shopping, visiting the world-famous Galerie Lafayette
for both men's and women's fashion, and the striking Louis Vuitton flagship store.
One evening, we took a nighttime bike ride through the city to the Eiffel Tower, watching
it sparkle against the Parisian sky.
Dining was another highlight, lunch and dinner at famous brasseries and cafes, where the
lively atmosphere was as enjoyable as the food.
Of course, no trip would be complete without stepping inside the Palace of Versailles.
Originally, a hunting lodge for King Louis XIII, it was transformed by Louis XIV, the
Sun King, into Europe's most opulent palace.
Walking through the gilded hall of mirrors, the lavish royal apartments, and the vast
gardens was breathtaking.
Spread across hundreds of acres, the gardens are adorned with over 1,500 fountains, each
one a sparkling masterpiece that reflected the extravagance of the French court.
It felt like stepping back in time to the height of royal power and culture.
Versailles was more than a destination, it was an immersion into history and elegance,
made even more special by experiencing it together as a family.
If you're planning a European trip, this trio of destinations and these unforgettable
stays make the perfect combination of adventure, relaxation, and inspiration.
