The 2022 PNW Dual Sport "Summer" Opener was a bit of a misnomer this year. Normally, this awesome dual sport and adventure motorcycle rally and campout marks the beginning of good weather and the summer riding season here in the Pacific Northwest. This year, however, the weather was a lot less summer and a lot more spring rains. Still, we didn't let that discourage us from having an amazing time camping and riding our dual sport and adventure motorcycles on the many amazing roads and trails near Randle, Washington. Motorcycle camping with friends and this awesome motorcycle rally was only half the equation, though. This awesome event also featured a fully equipped vendor tent from our friends at Rocky Mountain ATV/MC, awesome motorcycle games like motorcycle slow races and motorcycle soccer, motorcycle luggage packing presentations, and a whole lot more. Thanks to PNW Dual Sport for putting on this awesome motorcycle rally.
We are headed out to the Pacific Northwest Dual Sport Summer Opener.
Oh, we are definitely going into a field.
Cheers.
They applauded for us.
There it is.
The cave is definitely filled with lasers.
I feel significantly less badass.
He's like MacGyver.
Thanks, guys, for getting me here.
Literally, Paul has not moved in about 30 seconds.
It's a little bit like Michael Jordan playing one-on-one with a bunch of junior high kids.
You have excellent taste in bikes, sir.
Okay, I'm filming helpfully.
It's going, it's going!
Go!
You make an excellent point.
Hello, friends, and welcome back to the Dork Side.
I'm the Dork on the Road, and today we are headed out to the Pacific Northwest Dual Sport Summer Opener.
This video is sponsored by Monimoto.
Monimoto is the smart motorcycle GPS tracker.
It's an incredibly simple system.
It has three parts.
The battery-powered wireless tracker itself.
It also has a battery-powered key fob and the app that goes on your phone.
This thing is powered by its own battery, which means you do not have to connect it to your bike's electrical system,
and you can hide it anywhere you want on the bike, behind a fairing, under your seat, wherever.
The better you hide it, the harder it is to find.
It also has the key fob.
So when the key fob and the tracker are not close together, the Monimoto is aware of that
and will send you a phone call as soon as your bike starts moving.
However, you don't get false alarms because anytime this key fob is within 100 feet or so of your bike, it will not go off.
So as long as you're using your own key to ride, no worries about false alarms.
It's incredibly simple, inexpensive, and it works really well.
I did a test here in my neighborhood just last week.
Let me show you how it went.
I'm about to take off and put this Monimoto to the test.
So I just want to show you what I've done.
This is the key fob that comes with it.
I'm going to leave it here.
We're actually going to take the spare key and go for a ride.
I want to see how long it takes this thing to kick in and tell me that my bike has been stolen.
Here it is.
Sticking it right in there.
Antenna facing up.
Make sure it's not touching any metal.
Let's go see how long it takes this thing to go off.
Oh, there it is.
It's calling me.
I am two blocks from the house and it is calling me to tell me that my bike has been stolen.
Look at that.
That's cool.
It's calling me right now.
I'm literally a block from home.
So that was not even a minute, not even a minute after my bike started moving.
It called me and then it should pop up and start actively tracking it if I keep going.
So as you can see, this thing works very well.
It does the job it's designed to do.
It's easy to hide.
It's simple and I'm a big fan of it.
I'll be using this in the future.
So thanks Money Moto for sponsoring the video.
There's a link to the Money Moto 7 in the description below
and I hope you enjoy the rest of this adventure.
I'm the Dork in the Road and I want to be your internet riding buddy.
So please consider subscribing.
The Pacific Northwest Dual Sport Summer Opener is an event I've wanted to get to for a few years.
This is the first time I've actually made it out.
It's in the forests of Washington.
It's a three-day sort of chill camp out with some riding nearby partway through on Saturday.
We're going to sneak off to the Pacific Northwest Moto Vlogger Meetup organized by our friend Amanda,
aka the Magpie Flies and we are taking the trailer
because it is supposed to rain literally the entire time,
but we're not going to let that dampen our spirits.
We're going to go we're going to hang out.
We're going to enjoy beverages and hang out with our friends from Rocky Mountain ATV.
I took the Tandoray on the last trip.
So it is the Norden's turn.
I got the new tires on the Norden, the D-Sport on the front,
Tractionator rails on the rear just like on the Tandoray.
Also up front just a couple mods.
I don't think I've shown you.
This is the Moto Pumps GPS mount.
It's adjustable.
There's actually a little tightening knob on the other side
so you can set it pointing straight up
while you're standing up and you know down when you're riding
and it looks really good from the front.
So that's a great item.
Thank you for sending me that Moto Pumps.
Oh and the Seat Concept seat has arrived and is on the Norden
and I got my Happy Trails Moto rear racks.
Those are actually the 890 racks what they fit on the Norden.
Camping and cooking gear, got sleeping stuff.
We're good to go.
So I'm mostly packed up got the huge electric cooler in the truck again,
and I'm going to hit the road here shortly.
It's about a three and a half hour drive,
but it's going to be a great weekend and I can't wait to get there.
So let's roll.
We are about 10 minutes away and look at this mountainous Vista.
What a beautiful part of the country.
I'm blessed to live in.
Seriously.
I think we're close.
Campground is right over here.
Yep, yep, yep, yep, yep.
We're here friends.
We made it.
Oh, we are definitely going into a field.
Interesting.
This is treacherous and exciting.
Okay, Rocky Mountain guys.
I see him.
I see, I see Travis's rig.
This is interesting.
We're just literally driving through the disc golf course.
No big deal.
Let's hope we're on the list.
I've been told I was on the list,
but Rocky Mountain signed me up.
So we'll see.
Hi there.
How's it going?
Good.
How are you?
Good evening.
You have your ticket on you?
Rocky Mountain signed me up.
Oh, okay.
Okay, we're all good.
So you're going to go park with the Rocky Mountain guys then?
Yeah, right over there is where my friends are.
Thank you.
We're here.
This weather is misleadingly nice.
It is going to be garbage the rest of the time.
There's Critter.
Hi.
Critter's here.
There's Trav.
What's up?
I am pnwadvmoto on Instagram slash YouTube, et cetera.
Go follow that guy.
Go follow him.
You're going to save the gold for when I'm filming.
He literally just made a joke about how his pop-up is fully erect
and it's really short and how familiar that is to him.
Oh, I maybe added that last part.
Trav's like, I got a pop-up too.
Not really, but we put her over the table for sitting, right?
And then mine we can sort of stand under.
So I'll put it over here.
Got the Norton out and the camp is all set up in the trailer.
I'm going to close the doors.
But there you go.
Home sweet home for the next couple days.
Now, I'm going to put up my regular size pop-up just so
Trav's can get an idea of what they're supposed to look like.
Keep pulling.
It's big, bro.
So I'm cooking dinner because it's hungry time.
Just a little brats on the grill.
It's nice to have your trailer.
Mr.
Vanash himself right here.
There he is.
The man himself.
Yeah, I'm having brats and Gordon Ramsay over here has got
like a four-course meal.
Beer brats.
We both have brats, but whose presentation is going to be
better?
Not me.
Oh, I forgot.
I got a salad too.
Oh my God, but at least I'm not drinking Mike's hard lemonade.
Although I am literally drinking seltzer.
So what's the difference?
Brats are done.
Just letting them cool off.
Let's check in on Critter's Menagerie.
This is looking good, dude.
I don't know if you follow Critter's channel, but this guy
is a freaking campsite gourmet and like all in one pot, whatever
he just and that's my excuse is I'm always like, oh, I don't
I don't have enough room to carry stuff to make a good meal.
So I just cook a steak and eat it or whatever.
But now this guy proves me wrong on a lot of fronts like
everything I ever said about the 250 LA is like, no, look
what I'm doing.
So true.
It's okay.
Yeah.
Andrew's here, by the way.
That's the back of his head.
This is keto bread before you ask.
So it's like one net carb a slice.
There's shop in Portland and I made enough to share.
So Andrew's going to have some too.
There he is right on cue.
Look at that pasta.
I got some pepper, some sausage, bro.
This is a bon appétit.
Magnificent.
Yeah, I cooked my food, ate it and I've had another beer since
he started, but to each their own.
To those who wait, good things come.
He's going to eat better and no one's going to eat his food
because everyone else already ate.
So smart.
Smart.
Well done, sir.
We got three nine ounce Motocamp Nerd flasks.
That's right.
All personalized.
Yeah.
What's your say?
Oh weird.
Here's to Motocamp Nerd who isn't here and riding and friends
from other countries.
Cheers.
We have to drink three.
Motocamp Nerd.
We're here for the riders meeting and the Rocky Mountain guys
left.
So I'm sitting in their chairs because Shane said I could
probably, I don't know.
I'm just keeping it.
I just don't want anyone to take it.
Pretty laid-back, grassroots riding event, more of the camp
out, meeting new people, finding new riding friends, and then
exploring and finding trails.
Sat in the Rocky Mountain guys chairs because they left them
and everyone thought we were them.
They did.
They applauded for us as if we were the Rocky Mountain guys.
We are not.
Just hanging out.
It is a chill event.
So Trav brought the propane fire.
How do you know?
And I'm enjoying a Mr.
Puff Puff.
I actually just live like 10 minutes from where he lives.
Cinco Vegas.
This is the evening.
I'll catch up with you guys later.
In the trailer, ready to go to sleep.
Had a great evening hanging out with everybody.
Shane and Andrew and Travis and Chris and Kevin, Tim, everybody.
So thanks to everyone who hung out, but I'm going to get some
sleep and I will see you guys in the morning where we're
hopefully going to get some riding in here in beautiful
Randall, Washington.
Supposed to rain.
Let's see what happens.
But good night for now.
See you in the morning.
Good morning.
We are all feeling a little sluggish this morning.
So I'm glad it's not just me.
I was worried.
I was going to come out and everyone will be like, oh, we
feel great.
No festive festive evening is always camping.
You know how it is, but try to get some coffee and I think
it's going to be a slow morning, but happy to be here excited
to get out and ride and see the area.
Boys are moving slow.
And I don't blame them.
We got the coffee going this morning and this morning.
It's something special.
Rafe from Class 4 Coffee sent me some beans.
These are beans.
This is the single track variety.
He actually sent me four.
They're all motorcycle themed.
So Class 4 Coffee stuff is all it's like full throttle, bump
start, single track.
So I can actually ground it up at home.
So I'm fancy today and then use my French press in the Jet
Boil and pretty good stuff.
So I'll put a link to that for you.
Thanks for sending me that.
It's good.
Just because it's so beautiful coming down.
Well, it's been a slow morning around Camp Hangover, but I
think we're going to gear up and maybe try to get a ride in
before the rain is too awful.
So let's see what we can come up with.
So we're about to head out.
Let's go.
We're going to not lose Chris this time, theoretically.
Andrew's doing some skills practice.
So we got Tim, Andrew, Chris, Travis, Kevin, and that's
Critter Moto, Explore Adventure Moto, P&W, ADV Moto.
This is Andrew from Vanash Motorsports and Tim AKA AKA Timmers.
If that makes any sense to you.
That's his handle AKA Timmers on Instagram.
And you see the clouds up here.
That's where we're going.
So we're going to get wet one way or the other.
There it is.
That's what I came to see.
I came to see the boys get down.
We got Husky 501, KTM 500, CRF 250L.
We got a KTM 890, an Africa Twin, and of course me on the Nord.
I'm making sure Chris doesn't get left.
That's my mission.
So I've got it in off-road mode just because I want to see how
much it intervenes.
Just really don't have much experience with these ride modes.
So I just want to experience it and decide if I like it or not.
Every time I sit down it gets technical.
This thing is fun, dude.
It's almost too good to be true.
If I'm being honest.
We're headed up to a cave, laser cave.
Cool ass name.
Look at that.
But it looks like somebody's name.
Nah, I doubt it's actually full of lasers.
But wouldn't it be cool if it was full?
Okay, we're not going to the cave because you have to walk to it.
That's not what we're here to do.
I didn't come here to walk.
Well, I guess in my imagination the cave is definitely filled with lasers.
So and since I can't confirm that it wasn't that's the that's the
official story from now on.
Goes up to a dead end.
Hopefully it's pretty.
These are switchbacks.
We're definitely climbing.
Now we're getting into some sh**.
I better stand up.
We're going up to something.
Uh-oh, big branch.
You don't have to close your eyes.
You're wearing a helmet.
When in doubt always go up.
About to get good.
Hope my camera's working.
Oh, okay.
I got a little view.
That's it.
This is the end.
It was a fun ride.
Not mad about it.
Oh airflow, I can see.
There's a f***ing car up here.
I feel significantly less badass.
I can't believe that car is up here.
It's not even all-wheel drive.
So we're back from our ride first half and it's just it's doing this
which is to be expected with this ridiculous.
It's supposed to let up in an hour.
So we're going to hang out for a bit maybe and then maybe go back out or
well, the rain is not getting any better.
It's actually getting worse.
And so everyone had the same idea at about the same time.
You can see the coffee makings.
Oh, it is warm under here.
That thing captures that heat from the jet fuel.
Another advantage to the low one.
Yeah, but Chris made coffee.
Tim's making coffee.
I think Trav is going to make coffee.
I just busted mine out.
The only holdout is Kevin.
He's not making coffee yet.
I don't have any boil.
Oh, he doesn't have any.
Wait, I can boil you some water.
If you're into that kind of thing.
Nothing else to do.
You're looking like a drowned rat.
It's about 2.50 and our foolish optimism has been replaced with
realistic resignation.
And I think we've decided we're probably not going to get back out on
the bikes today.
So we all changed out of our gear.
Well, I did.
I guess me.
I changed out of my gear.
Since we're back at camp.
Let's walk over to the Rocky Mountain set up.
You guys got to see they have like a whole like mini store and I
literally just bought like seven things.
Actually, let me show you what I got because I think these are useful
items.
Hex key wrench set, but like in a cool stand.
I've been dying for one of these.
Do you just look and grab?
Oh, I need seven.
Bam.
I just stick it back in when you're done.
So pretty stoked on that.
It's all cheap.
I think I paid 60 bucks for everything in there.
Got a first aid kit.
This is going to stay in the trailer.
Just a bunch of nuts and bolts that go to European and I assume
Japanese motorcycles to just to have a handy extras.
Now that I have a KTM, you know, they rattle apart collapsible
T-handle wrench.
That's going to be great in my toolkit.
I use my T-handle wrench a ton and this is all Tusk stuff.
This is a tire repair kit but for tube tires, so I need this for
the Norden.
It's got plugs and you know reamer and there's an inflator in
here pretty sweet little setup.
Check that out inflator cartridges.
It's got rubber cement.
Here's your inflator.
You got your reamer got your plugger that's going on the Norden
permanently.
I will link that stuff for you so you can check it out, but let's
walk over to their setup.
So you can see it.
It's pretty cool.
Look at Curtis tarp setup.
By the way, he's refined it even further.
Look at this guy.
He's like MacGyver.
Look at who's shopping.
We got Tim.
We got Trav doing some shopping.
Trav got a cool hat that he's going to wear instead of a helmet
for the rest of the trip.
Right?
Yeah, at cat baby.
We're in the Rocky Mountain booth and these guys are actually
the reason that I'm here.
They paid for my ticket.
So thanks guys for getting me here and for making it happen.
And you know, you could have arranged for some nicer weather,
but whatever Kyle.
Yeah, Kyle with a C.
Kyle with a C is here.
You're kind of the this is your deal.
This is your thing.
Yeah.
Yeah, I basically manage Rocky Mountains events.
So we'll go basically all over the West Coast.
We have some on the East Coast that we'll go to and set up some
some stuff, some displays, bring some good deals to people, go
ride.
So where can I catch you in the future?
So we'll be at Overland Expo in Loveland, Colorado.
We have an adventure bike set up there.
So I have some good deals on adventure bike stuff and we'll
be at the Trail Preservation Alliance, also known as Colorado
600 and we will be at KTM Adventure Rally in Idaho.
Yeah, I believe it's in Idaho Falls this year.
So KTM Adventure Rally is in September.
It's September 14th to the 18th, I think.
And then Overland Expo is in August.
So that'll be our closest one coming up.
This is Shane.
He hooks me up with all the Rocky Mountain stuff.
So he's a cool guy.
Basically, like it's like you go to Santa and you tell him what
you want and then it just shows up.
When he tries to sell you guys things, it's usually like comes
from me.
Yeah, right.
Shane's fun.
I just want to say thanks to everybody for shopping with us
through Ben's Link.
You know, we appreciate him.
We appreciate you guys.
Obviously what you do is support this channel, support us.
So we really appreciate everybody.
Much appreciated.
For sure.
What do you have?
Any fabulous insights to add?
Get out and ride.
That's all.
That's what it's about.
He's freezing cold.
Yeah, I know.
No, I'm so happy.
I'm stoked.
It's cool to be out here in Washington.
Never ridden out here before, but there's a hell of a lot of
rain out here.
I always like this.
Probably.
My skin feels awesome.
Yeah, you're very moisturized right now.
My hair's feeling good.
Awesome.
Thanks guys.
Thanks for being here and for making this happen and, you know,
for getting me here.
Yeah.
Thanks for coming.
Oh, dude.
I'm not the only one buying stuff.
It's just good deals.
It's the high-biz bros.
Yeah.
Feels like you're about to drop a sick rap album.
Yeah.
Our Rocky Mountain friends are doing a little luggage presentation
and the weather is so optimal.
So optimal.
What I do is I like to keep a spreadsheet with all of the things
I'm going to need for my trip on it.
So depending on how long the trip is and things and I categorize
it into three sections for my rear.
I like to keep my tail bag all of my bulky light things so that
you can keep the weight as far down and centered as possible.
So I keep my tools towards the bottom front of both my right
and left side.
So up here is going to be all my camping equipment.
I could keep this an extra power bank on there just in case
you can charge your little stuff at night.
Well, the presentations were cool and they're still kind of
going on but we got hungry.
So we're fixing up some breakfast for dinner.
I'm making bacon and there's eggs and sausage.
Sausage links over here and then apparently some rice or something
for some reason.
We're going to eat good.
Going to eat well.
We're going to eat.
Now I'm making sausage and eggs.
Sausage is about done.
Eggs are done.
It's a hot mess.
In a good way.
Critter's the hot mess.
I'm a hot mess.
I know especially for dinner.
I'm going to cut it in half and
breakfast for dinner.
All keto.
No carbs.
It's time for the slow race.
Paul Neff is over there on his honest-to-god Dakar bike.
The bike he's going to ride at Dakar.
So how is this even fair?
It's just static balancing.
He's not even moving.
Oh my God.
How is that fair?
Look at him.
There's Bella.
Literally Paul has not moved in about 30 seconds.
Oh, there he goes.
You're supposed to lose buddy.
Yeah, it's over.
It's over.
He wasn't even halfway through.
I'm shocked that Paul Neff won that.
Shocked.
For the record to his credit.
Paul Neff did not accept an award.
I think he was just doing it for fun.
So he did not in fact steal the show.
It's a little bit like Michael Jordan playing one-on-one with
a bunch of junior high kids.
You know, it's not really fair.
We're one on ten.
He still wins.
Circle slow race.
I want the DRZ to win so bad.
DRZ, DRZ, DRZ.
That's our boy Tim.
Right there.
That's him.
Timmy, it's not fair.
He was in your way.
Tim, champion in the making right here.
It's about to happen.
He's going to do it.
It's a very tight circle.
Two circles out.
DRZ.
I'm truly, really appreciating this roosting the crap out of
their field.
Tim, how does it feel to be a medalist?
Well, you know, I come from a long line of winners.
So I'm pretty used to this sort of notoriety, but you know,
it still feels good.
It still feels good.
We're proud of you, buddy.
Yeah.
Here's all the winners from all the slow race events and
winners and placers, really finishers, including a DRZ.
You have excellent taste in bikes, sir.
I was rooting for you.
So the entrance is becoming kind of treacherous.
It's this wet, soupy crap through this field and this van
is stuck.
I have to go back out this way.
Two-wheel drive.
Look, we should be helping.
We're filming helpfully.
Okay, I'm filming helpfully.
Excellent.
Wow, that is pudding.
All right.
I think we're going to start using the main gate.
That's just going to get worse and worse.
Yeah.
Every time someone drives through.
I don't want to pull my trailer back through this.
For the record, we came to try to help, but it looked like
you guys had it handled.
So I wanted to document your Herculean effort.
Yeah, right.
Hey, and now it's immortalized.
Coach is the most important part.
That's true.
Go push.
That's a good warm-up for your game.
Yeah.
Never a dull moment.
There's a dog taking a ---- in the soccer field.
So look out for that, fellas.
It's muddy.
You all right?
Okay, the Internet's forever.
Okay, motosoccer is happening.
Oh, that's very difficult.
Tim is down.
It's going, it's going.
Goal!
That's a goal, ladies and gentlemen, people of all ages.
Anyway, it's chaos and madness.
That's all that you really need to know from what's happening
right now.
Tim's coming for the goal.
This is so dangerous.
Oh, we're hanging out by the fire with our double silver
medalist Tim and also Chris.
It's Mr.
Puff Puff time and I wasn't going to have one but these guys
were like, how do you not have Mr.
Puff Puff?
And I was like, you make an excellent point.
Lots of rain.
I'm getting interesting comments on my post about the rain.
People are like, it's Washington.
Didn't you know?
Well, yeah, I live here.
Like I know, but it's been raining for three months straight.
So it's a little bit unusual and it's starting to get on my
nerves.
That's all I'm saying.
But we got a little riding in today.
We're going to go to the motovlogger meetup tomorrow and
get a lot more riding in and it's going to be raining all
day tomorrow too.
So it is what it is, but we have waterproof gear and a fire
pit to come back to.
And anyway, we're just chilling around the fire.
I just wanted to check in because my job is to make content
and I haven't made any in a couple hours.
About 11 o'clock.
It's been a great event so far.
Maybe hit the like button if you're enjoying yourself.
I will catch up with you in the morning.
Good night.
Excellent.
You're trying to steal my audience right now?
We can share.
That's true.
But I'm better.
Beautiful.
Yeah, I think we're done.
I think we're done.
He's just showering me in gravel.
Stay on target.
We only have two fires.
We only have two.
