So it's our last day in Hong Kong for this trip and we're making a journey back to the
Shenwan Municipal Building to eat at the Cook Food Center. It looked like they had some pretty
good dim sum and some other food. We'd like to try it before we leave. This was by far
my favorite spot to eat at so far and I hope it doesn't disappoint this time.
I wonder if these restaurants are even open right now. Maybe not.
Too early for them. It says they're open from 7 a.m to 6 30 but there's no one here.
It is strange because it's Sunday and I would think Sunday would be a busy day.
Well I guess we have the whole place to ourselves. Wait there's people dining here.
So on this side they have the dim sum and I believe they're open.
Time to see how dim sum is inside the Cook Food Center. So we've got an iced milk tea here.
I normally have these milk teas in Hong Kong heated up but we'll see how this cold version is.
It's surprisingly quiet for a Sunday morning here in this Cook Food Center.
Nice. I don't know if I like the cold version better or the hot but
this is really good. Slightly sweet and a lot of milk in here.
Pan-fried turnip cake. This looks and smells delicious. They're literally cooking it fresh for
us and they pan-fry this well. The underside is nice too. Let's give it a try. Broke apart pretty
easily. Wow this is good. The outside is just so crispy. Inside is just so soft and tender with
that turnip. What an amazing pan-fried turnip cake. Definitely one of the best I've had in my
life. The meats in here too are so good and the ham and everything.
Wow. These are the shrimp dumplings, the ha gow. The folds on these ha gow are definitely
interesting. It's not one piece like other dim sum restaurants that I've been to
and the skin looks a little bit thinner. These ha gow look great. Gotta try one.
Definitely a little bit smaller than what I'm used to. I mean the other ones that I'm used to,
they're more round and plump. This one looks more like a wider dumpling to me.
I'm gonna say the quality of this shrimp is unbelievable. Probably the highest quality
shrimp that I've had in Hong Kong so far. Now for the skin itself, it's not the best. It's thin
and it kind of broke apart as I bit into it but man this shrimp is unbelievable.
They get it straight from the wet market downstairs so no complaints there.
Wow. So good, this ha gow. Just the shrimp alone pushes this dish all the way up.
Here comes our siu mai and the sponge cake. What service.
Whoa. This dim sum is crazy folks. Let's take a look at this siu mai.
I'm gonna break it apart a little bit. It's still hot. I'm definitely gonna need to
cool this down a little bit before eating it.
Man this is really good. That ground pork in here is just so plump and full of flavor.
And that wonton skin, man this comes right off this siu mai. It like melts in your mouth.
Excellent. Wow. Unbelievable siu mai. I mean it is a little bit oily but it's authentic and
so good. Now we gotta try the sponge cake. Now the sponge cake I had at the other place it was
excellent. Let's see how this one matches.
The aroma on this is really good. Not bad. Nice and fluffy. A little bit of sweetness but
somewhat dry. So here we have some dim sum meatballs and chicken steamed rice with shiitake
mushrooms. It's kind of sticking to this bean curd on the bottom.
All right. We're gonna have to add some of this to the meatball. Just a little bit.
Maybe a little more than that. Okay. See if we can break open this meatball a little bit.
No it doesn't really want to. So we're gonna have to just poke it in here. This looks hot.
A nice meatball filled with flavor and that sweet sauce is amazing. Nice chives in here too.
They do dim sum well here. I'm glad we came here too on Sunday morning. It's not so busy and we
don't feel rushed. Now we gotta try this chicken steamed rice. Oh look at that. I expect this rice
to have a lot of chicken flavor in here. Let's try the mushroom. Nice mushroom flavor. Very earthy.
The rice is very flavorful too coated with the flavors of the chicken.
This chicken is unbelievable. It's slippery smooth. That chicken skin basically just falls off
and the meat is so tender.
Wow. I think this dish is the star of this dim sum spot in the Cook Food Center. You gotta get this.
Wow. All right. It's safe to say that this Cook Food Center makes some delicious dim sum. It's
definitely the highlight of my trip so far. Like you would never expect to find great food in places
like these but it is getting two thumbs up from me. It's not the cheapest dim sum around but some
of their items like this steamed chicken with rice and mushroom is like the best I ever had.
