Because even as the world goes to sleep, God's love stays wide awake.
Once upon a time, in a quiet village in France called Lourdes, there lived a kind and humble
girl named Bernadette. She was just 14 years old and her family were very poor. They lived in a
small chilly room in an old mill. Bernadette wasn't strong or clever, she was often sick
and school was hard for her, but she had a gentle heart and a deep love for God.
One chilly February morning, Bernadette went with her sister and a friend to gather firewood.
They walked by a rocky place called Massabia, where there was a small cave. As Bernadette
stepped near the grotto, something amazing happened. A soft wind blew, though the trees
didn't move. She looked up and saw a beautiful lady dressed in white, with a blue sash around
her waist and golden roses on her feet. The lady smiled and made the sign of the cross.
Bernadette rubbed her eyes. Was she dreaming? She knelt down and began to pray the rosary.
The lady didn't say anything at first, but she would come back again and again. In awe,
the lady appeared to Bernadette 18 times. She asked her to pray for sinners and tell the
chapel to encourage people to come and watch the spring that bubbled up at the grotto.
People didn't believe Bernadette at first. They laughed, scolded her and even questioned her.
But Bernadette stayed calm and brave. She knew what she saw and she did everything the lady
asked. One day, Bernadette asked the lady her name. The lady smiled and said,
I am the Immaculate Conception. Bernadette didn't know what this meant,
but the priest did. It was another name for Mary, the mother of Jesus. Soon,
people from all over the world came to love. The spring still flows there today and many have found
use in peace. Even though Bernadette grew up and became a nun, she stayed simple and kind.
She never wanted attention. She only wanted to love God and do what Mary asked. Bernadette
teaches us that even the smallest heart can be chosen for something beautiful.
Even the quietest voice can echo with God's love.
The end. We end our story as we always do in prayer. Dear Jesus, thank you for today,
for fun, for love, for time to play. I'm sorry for the wrongs I did. Please help me grow more like
you. Watch over me the whole night through and bless my family, friends and soul. I love you
Lord with all my heart. Stay close to me and never part. Amen.
