When you've got a neighbor who owns property in prime camping and dual sport riding territory, you have to take advantage of their hospitality once in a while. I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to camp in my enclosed trailer toy hauler setup and ride my new Honda CRF450L in Central Oregon with a few friends. My (now ex) neighbor Darrell owns a fantastic property where he's built his own private campground, and @ExploreAdventureMoto, Ducfan, Tim, and I headed over there for some awesome Central Oregon off road dual sport riding through the sand, rocky technical hill climbs, a recent forest fire, out near a dried up reservoir, and all around, over, and through the majestic beauty of Central Oregon.
We are here in Central Oregon camping and riding at neighbor Daryl's private campground.
That sounds like we broke up. I feel like I'm in a transformer. This is a massive burrito. I forgot
to gas up before we left so we just came up this fun hill and now we're going back down it. Damn,
Daryl picked a good route for us. This is not baby heads, this is babies. You can see all the
color, all this red is the fire retardant they dropped. Hello friends, welcome back to the dork
side. I'm the dork in the wind. We are here in Central Oregon camping and riding at neighbor
Daryl's private campground. It's pretty awesome. I'm the dork in the road and I want to be your
internet riding buddy so please consider subscribing. We're here in Central Oregon,
as I said, neighbor Daryl who is sadly no longer my neighbor. He's ex-neighbor Daryl.
That sounds like we broke up. My former neighbor Daryl has property up here in Central Oregon and
on it he's built a few campsites and a shop and it's really close to some cool riding in the area
and so I brought the 450L. You can see it right there. He's got his 300L. A couple other guys that
you'll recognize are coming to meet us and we're going to do some riding and camping this weekend
up here in Central Oregon. It's going to be cold tonight, like 35 degrees. It's quite a change
from the camping, like literally two weeks ago I was camping in Bend and it was so hot. It was like
72 degrees when I went to bed. I couldn't even sleep without a fan on and tonight I'm gonna
probably have to run the heater. Things change quickly up here in Central Oregon but it's gonna
be a cool weekend. Let me give you sort of a look around at the area. We're up here in this high
desert-y, juniper-y, sorry it's windy, high desert, juniper, sagebrush, rock and sand. Take a look.
It's pretty cool up here. Brought my propane fire pit because fires are still banned because there
was literally fire up here like two weeks ago. There's the tundra and you can see in the distance
that's Daryl's shop and his setup. There's another campsite right here, like these are literally like
campground campsites. But for now I think I'm gonna go enjoy a few beverages so try to catch up
with you later on tonight or maybe in the morning but I just wanted to show you where we were
and introduce you to the video and I hope you enjoy it. Let's camp and ride. Good morning. It is
Friday. I shot that intro on Thursday. Spent the evening just hanging out, enjoying beverages,
had some hot dogs, hung out with the neighbors a bit and today's the day we're actually going
to ride and just waiting for Travis and Tim to get here and eventually Duckfan and get out and
ride on this baby. So I'm gonna make some coffee and enjoy some coffee and then maybe I'll put
over and see what Daryl's up to. Okay, change of plans. We're just gonna go into town for breakfast
so that'll be easier than making coffee here at the campsite. We're in neighbor Daryl's truck.
We're heading into town for breakfast. Where are we going, Daryl? We're going to breakfast at the
golf course, Meadow Lakes. Because it's delicious and they got bacon. They have bacon and that's
what's important. So pro tip, if you're gonna go somewhere to get breakfast, make sure they have
bacon. I just talked to Travis and he's almost here so he's gonna meet us there which means he
left home at like six o'clock in the morning because he's a freaking madman. But we'll see
him there and have some breakfast and see how it goes. You see that majestic rig in front of us?
That's literally Travis he got here at the same time as us. There he is. Nice of him to put that
sticker on his trailer. He doesn't know what we're in. He has no idea we're back here. Oh, plenty of
parking. Plenty of parking. Hey, move that piece of s**t! What's up? Good timing. That was real good timing.
Oh, the mirrors are folding in. I feel like I'm in a transformer. So this guy's looking a little
different right now. I don't know if you noticed but... Spread it out. You got a facelift.
So if getting your hair cut is getting your ears lower, did you get them raised?
You got, oh, so it bounces out. Yes, yeah. That's why I did this is so my ears would look so low.
Because otherwise they would be like on top of your head. I know. Yeah, okay. And I'd just be...
Hand for scale. My hand looks huge. This is a massive burrito covered in massive amounts of
gravy. Look at Daryl's mile-high plate of food. And then enjoy your biscuits, bud. This is a half
order. Yeah, I'm not messing around here. No. Thank you. Anything else right now? I'm good, thanks.
No more food. Yeah. Maybe some Tums after. Right. Oh my gosh. I'm gonna need a place to take a nap.
Yeah. Pillow. But look, it also comes with an orange. Pillow vitamin C. Subside the guilt.
Whoa. Trav brought the street legal in Washington state 450X. Yeah. So this will be fun. This will
be fun. Yeah. I'm once again jealous of his ability to stand up in his trailer.
But his cost twice as much as mine. So. Right. There's that. Yeah, I know. This is a sweet setup.
But Trav is mostly geared up. There he is. We're gonna go over and meet Daryl and get some riding
in. We have acquired our Daryl. I have a Travis. I'm burping. Trav's bike starts sometimes. All
right. Well, I've never ridden out here before. I've ridden, you know, similar terrain many times,
but I've never ridden this actual area. So this will be fun. Good real test of the 450L for the
first time, which I'm excited about. And see, it's so light feeling. It is way different.
Oh yeah. Damn. This front suspension is stiff. It's very different. Seriously. I think I need
to crank it down. This is just bouncing me all over the place. I forgot to gas up before we left.
So we just came up this fun hill and now we're going back down it so we can go back and gas up.
But my bad. I want to adjust the suspension a little anyway. I guess we were about halfway
through this loop. So no big deal. No big deal. All right. Here's where I tried to eat sideways.
We failed. Failed to eat. I tried though. This is a good little road. I'm impressed with it.
Daryl scouted us some good riding.
Why are you so bouncy, bro? All Honda Central Oregon exploring ride take two. There's Daryl
on his 300L. He knows where we're going. I hope. So I adjusted my suspension. I softened it up a
little. We'll see if it makes a difference. It was definitely just bouncing all over the place before.
It already feels better. I was not enjoying this part of the road even
last time. I don't know. The guy before me must have had to crank all the way up or I'm just not
used to an actual good suspension. Either way. There's only way back on the same route because
I'm the idiot who didn't gas up before we left. Dog friends. He's hauling ass. Damn.
They are flying. I'm doing like 40. The dog's probably doing 35 on his own.
There's where I tried to go down last time. Trav said we are three Hondas dicking around
in the desert and I'd say that's an apt name for today's adventure.
Damn. Daryl picked a good route for us. And this is right by his place. No joke.
This is some real riding. That's good. I wanted to get a test in on this thing.
That's a foot drop. There goes a rabbit. This would be fun to come up. This would be real fun
to come up. I got myself into the rut which I did not want to do. Let's use our feet to get out. Yep.
It works. And we're actually going slow enough you can see the texture. It's all lava rock.
Gnarly, dude. This is not baby heads. This is babies. These are baby rocks. This stuff is
no joke, bro. It's gnarly. This is some central Oregon gnar. Yeah, we're bouncing.
Oh, we're right before the bottom.
Hilarious. That's a big drop. Dude, I thought you said you weren't a good rider. That's hard.
That was really good, dude. You crushed it. That was really good for Daryl. He's only been riding
off-road for like a year. He's only had that 300L since I did that 300L test ride video.
Yeah, to come down something like that. I'm impressed. Proud of him. Go neighbor Daryl.
This thing's torquey, dude. It's like, what do you want? Where do you want to start? Okay.
Torquey and light. Makes the work easier. That's weird. I'm down here shooting paint cans.
Actually, it could be retardant drop. This fire was very close. Look, in recent...
Recent? This was just a few weeks ago, I think. I'm surprised this is open.
Well, that used to be a truck.
Look at this fire, man. Crazy. It was right here.
Yeah, you can see all the color. All this red is the fire retardant they dropped.
Wow. That's cool, man. I love it. Not much reservoir right now. Not reserving a lot.
Tight switchbacks here. There goes Trav up the backside.
That's what he's known for. Certain circles. Good times out here. This is a beautiful country.
Lots of riding off of Daryl's property. I'm gonna have to come camp up here more often.
You created a monster here, Daryl.
Sideways. This is... I haven't really tried to ride a hard sitting down before.
Oh, whoa. My god. Fish tails for days. I don't have traction control now like I'm used to on
the other bike. Gorgeous out here. I know I keep saying it, but it's the only thought in my brain.
It's sitting down. It's just... It's got everything you need and then some. A throttle
tamer was a great idea because I'm really using the first third more than anything,
and that's where the fine control is on this thing. After that, you get into full throttle.
Yeah, there's a noticeable jump in power. All right, we're headed back now.
Right. A lot of... Start over. We're back on the ride today. A lot of pavement.
Out of the... I'm just whining. It's just my dual sport bike that I brought with me
is set up for woods riding, so it has woods gearing. It has wood stiff suspension.
Wooden gears. They don't last very long, but they're really soft.
No, yeah. It splinters.
Yeah, that's a problem.
That gentleman right there, neighbor Daryl, thank you very much because...
Yes, thank you.
Those off-road sections that we rode today, fantastic.
Is that your one? Is that your good one?
Correct.
Daryl's probably got one that's going to come out so easy if you survive this.
This is the noise I'm making. That's how you know it's good.
Travis, Travis.
Travis, our loser.
So we've just been hanging out, playing cornhole in Jenga.
As you saw some footage of Travis losing at Jenga. Thank God it wasn't me.
But now it's dinner time, so I'm making some Johnsonville brats, as you can see.
And Travis at his camp is going to make some steak, I think.
Also, I rode Daryl's really fun little mini bike Coleman.
It's not a Coleman, but it's like the same idea, and it's super fun.
It's right there. Right there.
So fun.
I was laughing my ass off the whole time. I may make a video on it tomorrow.
Oh my God, Sasquatch!
I'll be enjoying my Johnsonville brats with barbecue sauce because
A. It was the cheapest condiment at the grocery store,
and B. Don't judge me. Those are my reasons.
For you mustard purists, I really don't like mustard, so
it doesn't make its way onto my dogs very often.
So easy, so good.
Oh, I can taste jalapeno.
That's strong. That's warm.
There's some heat to this.
I heard a rumor that Travis was cooking steak, so I had to see this in action.
Yeah, absolutely.
It's fancy, right?
Yeah.
We're, uh, Ben's filming right now, so I'm gonna say bye.
I can leave.
No, it's my mom.
Oh, hi mom.
He says hi mom.
Okay, serious question.
Yes.
I brought six sausages because I'm a nice guy who likes to share.
Oh my God.
I only see one steak.
I can cut this in half.
This is a gigantic steak, and I don't eat much.
It is not a gigantic steak, and you do not need to cut that in half.
Plus, I don't want your gross pan-fried steak.
Whatever.
Medium rare.
That's actually not too bad.
No, here. That's your piece. Take it.
I literally don't need it. I just ate three hot dogs.
Oh my God.
Go to town.
Take a piece.
Take it to Daryl if you want to feed someone.
Duckfan's here, and it's dark enough that you can't see him,
so I don't have to blur his face out.
Yeah, Daryl brought out his maxi pads so that Duckfan can set his tent up on him.
You have to start carrying those on your bike.
I was going to say.
That's right. I was filming in his pajamas with me lighting up his reflectives.
There you go.
Now, this is camping.
Electric generator, gas fire pit, inside a shop.
Daryl's shop.
Well, now we just need some mood lighting.
Yeah, right.
Oh, I guess I don't need this anymore.
I'll turn that off for now.
Oh, it just got romantic in here.
Scary.
Anyway, Duckfan arrived.
He's here, and now we're enjoying a fire pit and a few beverages.
Excellent!
Stay on the right.
Pretty decent rut on the left.
Oh, this is longer than I remember.
That's what she said.
Recluse.
I've never ridden a bike with a recluse before, so this will be interesting.
You bleeding?
