I'm tired of winter and miss motorcycle camping a lot, so I decided it was time to head out on a winter motorcycle camping trip to the Oregon Coast. Our original plan was to motocamp at Devil's Lake State Park, but when we got there we discovered the park was closed because it was completely flooded. So...we had to improvise and find another nearby location for our winter camp motorcycle adventure. We had fabulous weather for this moto camping trip to the Oregon Coast and ended up at one of my favorite campgrounds: Beverly Beach State Park near Newport, Oregon. Winter camping in a tent is cold, but thanks to a big fire and great motorcycle camping gear, I stayed warm and cozy and had a great time motorcycle camping in winter with my buddies!
It is currently 32 degrees, that is freezing temperatures, and I'm going motocamping because
why not?
I had a little mishap with the 300L.
Come here to Rickery Hall and see McLovin.
I always seem to find myself in a brew pub.
I won't even look at you not looking back.
The eyes rolling back in your head really made that work.
That's what I do for a living.
That's not even winter, blah blah blah.
I don't expect you to be quiet, but that's what I was hoping for.
What's this bright thing in the sky?
This is supposed to be a winter camping trip.
Hello friends, I'm the Dork in the Road.
It is currently 32 degrees, that is freezing temperatures, and I'm going motocamping because
why not?
It is mid-January, but I am tired of winter.
I'm tired of not camping, and so I'm going motorcycle camping on the Tenere 700 today.
Gonna meet up with Travis and Tim, and we're gonna go camping at the Oregon Coast.
It's about a two-hour ride.
I'm taking the Tenere for a couple reasons.
It's got heated grips and much better wind protection for the cold.
But two, I had a little mishap with the 300L.
Somewhere on my snowy ride the other day, I lost the license plate.
So yeah, I got an appointment at DMV on Friday, so I gotta get a new plate, and then we'll
take it out camping after that.
I promise you, but I owe you guys a Tenere trip anyway, because if you remember, back
in October, I did a poll on which bike I should take motocamping.
The Tenere won, but I didn't have it at the time, so I took the 450L out instead.
So this is that Tenere trip I owe you.
Next one will be on the 300L.
Let's get out there.
Let's do the thing.
Let's motocamp at the Oregon Coast in January.
Exciting.
Look.
Look who it is.
Do you see him?
It's the guy.
It's the man.
Himself.
So if you need any tractors and farm supplies, come here to Rick Riall and see McLovin, aka
you're gonna have to ask for Ryan, I think.
They probably don't call him McLovin here as much.
And we had to give him s***, because he doesn't even own a street-legal motorcycle anymore.
Going from riding 40 hours a week at work and riding every weekend to nothing, this
has been...
It's not easy.
Yeah, but you get to drive as many tractors as you want.
I do.
Yeah.
It's just not quite the same day.
Cool to stop and say hi to McLovin, Trav's here, and we're gonna hit the road.
It is the exact same temperature it was when I pulled in.
Great.
I was hoping it would warm up.
It will not.
Well, we were gonna camp here tonight at Devil's Lake, and I didn't reserve because I couldn't
get on early enough, but the whole park is closed because it is flooded.
So, we're gonna have to try to find a plan B. Adventure!
No matter what's happening, I always seem to find myself in a brewpub on the coast,
so we're at McMinimins in Lincoln City, and we just stopped to figure out a plan.
Please, I work for you, let me hold the camera.
Tim's trying to get his lunch paid for.
So we, I think I'm just gonna go back to Beverly Beach, because it's the nicest camper I know
out here that's open.
Trav's never been there with us, and you know, Tim's bike didn't start last time, so let's
do that again.
Right.
So we can both leave him there.
Right, yeah, we can double abandon him this time.
Oh yeah?
Yeah, double abandon.
Yeah, I won't even look back.
No, I won't even look at you not looking back.
The eyes rolling back in your head really made that one.
That was delicious, but Tim and Trav and I are now gonna go find a campsite, because it's
like 3 o'clock in the afternoon and it'll be dark in 15 minutes, but you might recognize
this place.
Hopefully there's campsites available.
If there aren't, I'll be shocked and I'll just go home.
We made it to camp.
We got a site.
We're here at Beverly Beach.
Oh my god.
Now I'm gonna set up my tent.
Yeah, I'm filming.
This is what I do for a living.
This is what pays for your dinner, bruh.
Oh, okay.
And your campsite.
I told Trav, he said, what do you think, two bundles?
I said, have you camped with Tim before?
Last time we did four.
Camp is set up.
There's my tent.
The boys are out scavenging, as you can see.
There's Travis.
Travis always brings wood.
Travis always got wood when I'm around.
Just got back from running to town to pick up some delicious beverages and I'm gonna
just put my chair together.
We're gonna get a fire going and that's it for the evening, so pretty excited.
I cannot wait for the comments about, oh, that's not even winter, blah, blah, blah,
from people sitting on their asses not camping in January.
Yeah, so go camping in January.
Wasn't it 30 degrees this morning?
It was.
It was 30 degrees when I left.
Yeah, it was cold.
Same as making fire.
Well, at least the common nomenclature is you're cool in it, you're getting cold in
it.
Too cold to sit here without a fire, but I think we're gonna be just fine.
It's Mr. Puff Puff time, obviously.
I almost forgot until Trav busted his pipe out and I was like, wait a damn minute.
This is a Romeo and Julieta that a very cool subscriber sent me.
He sent me these and some Gurkhas, which I also really like.
I forgot to say I like Gurkhas, so good guess, buddy.
But Trav and I are both enjoying one.
Cheers.
Trav is having himself a Romeo and Julieta and so am I.
Thank you for that.
Yeah, you're welcome.
This cost that subscriber a lot of money.
Thank you, that subscriber.
Yeah, I don't want to tell everyone his name.
What if he doesn't want to know?
It's a good thing his name isn't that subscriber.
Yeah, anyway, these are a disgusting habit and don't smoke them.
Yeah, don't do that.
Or do.
This is so much better than my GoPro.
Oh my God.
Why have I not been using a real camera this whole time?
Ben, am I supposed to be quiet?
I don't expect you to be quiet, but that's what I was hoping for.
While I film this shot that signifies the end of the day.
I'll be quiet.
Just for you.
Just because I like you.
Let me know when I start.
Starting now.
Ten seconds, right?
My puffy jacket is very puffy, as you can see.
Must be the three layers I'm wearing underneath it.
We're up.
We survived.
It was cold.
I was cold.
Until my bag warmed up and then cold again when I had to get up and go pee.
I think we got down to 37 is all last night, so that is about five degrees above freezing
for you.
On Fahrenheit types.
You never said amazing camping, but I slept pretty good for camping, if you know what
I mean.
How'd you sleep, Trav?
Horrible.
Worst sleep I've had while camping in a while.
Must have been the company.
No, because at Elsie Falls I slept really well.
I mean, yes, you're right.
Your opinions of the company have changed.
Right.
Trav made a fire, which is awesome, so that's the thing.
You fight the battle, right?
So I'm laying in there.
I'm awake.
I have to pee, but it's cold, so generally lay there until my need to pee overwhelms
my concerns about the temperature.
So it's nice when that happens to come out and there's a fire.
I'm glad we saved some wood last night.
It's a slow morning, so I'll make coffee here in a minute, but I just wanted to check in,
say good morning, let you know we survived a winter overnight at the Oregon coast.
It's like the bear.
The bear peeks out to see if winter has ended.
It has not.
This is shocking news.
Like, headline news.
Like, first time ever in the Dork on the Road video, in a Dork on the Road video.
I feel better than anyone else this morning.
Write it down.
It was January 2023.
Cheers to that.
What's this bright thing in the sky?
This is supposed to be a winter camping trip.
Super weird.
I haven't seen that thing in months.
It's about time to pack up, or at least get started packing up.
We're not in a hurry, but look at the steam coming off everything.
My backpack is steaming.
So I'm just sitting by the fire, drinking coffee, trying to wake up my brain,
and I get a notification from Facebook that somebody's tagged me in a post.
So I go in, and it's in the Everide Executive Producers Group,
which is for people that donate monthly to Everide's channel.
And I have been for a long time,
because Everide is literally the reason I bought a dual-sport motorcycle,
and a huge inspiration for me to become a dual-sport adventure YouTuber.
And I go in there, and the notification is from Tyler himself,
commenting on how he had the same idea for a video he was working on,
but I posted my video on the topic,
and then a big shout-out saying everyone should go watch my videos,
which is like... I think I can just die now?
Like, I've made it. I've reached the pinnacle of what I'm trying to accomplish as a YouTuber.
My literal hero is shouting me out in his own group, so that's pretty cool.
Big shout-out and thank you to Tyler from Everide.
And if you don't follow his channel, or you haven't subscribed to him,
some of the most amazing off-road motorcycle riding,
cinematography, photography, video making, hints and tips, all that stuff.
So you should definitely. I will for sure link his channel.
Thanks, Tyler. You've made my day easily.
Probably my winter.
Nothing warms you up on a cold winter's camping morn like a compliment from your hero.
Anyway, back to packing up.
Boys are packed up. They're gearing up.
Campsite's clear.
And you may think this video is over, but it's not.
We're going to go get food at Pig & Pancake,
as selected by the illustrious Timothy.
Tim had a little trouble, a little digestive issue last night.
He's feeling a little rough, so we're going to get him some pancakes and some bacon.
Let him ride home on his vibrating motorcycle and see what happens.
I love this campground. I'm sorry to keep making videos in the same place.
Not the intention. You saw I clearly tried to go somewhere else.
There's just limited options open this time of year.
And it's pretty important to me anyway, when I'm winter camping,
to know I have easy access to firewood.
So going to campgrounds where there's firewood for sale is super helpful.
And this is about the only time of year you can get into these places
because they're so busy in the summer, so the winter's a nice time to come
and just kind of feel like you have it to yourself.
There was nobody else not camping in the year it was.
Well, that's about going to do it for this camping video.
We're going to go our separate ways and head home.
So I just want to thank Travis, Explore Adventure Moto.
Make sure you go follow his channel.
And Tim, a.k.a. a.k.a. Timmers.
I'm trying to film, bro.
a.k.a. a.k.a. Timmers on Instagram.
Go follow those guys if you haven't.
And I also want to give a shout-out to my channel members and patrons
who make content like this possible.
Channel members get early access to videos, merchandise discounts, and other perks.
And there's a button right below the video
where you can sign up on YouTube or link to Patreon.
I also want to thank everyone that's used my affiliate links to Rocky Mountain,
RevZilla, Giant Lube, Motocamp Nerd, and Amazon.
Every time you click those links, I get a little kickback, costs you nothing extra,
and you get to support future dorky motorcycling content.
Let me know in the comments if you want to see these two yahoos in a future camping video
and how you feel about these camping videos,
because it's the first one I've done since the restructuring, the redirecting of the channel.
So, we'll see how it does.
But anyway, for now, and as always...
Wow.
Wow, he's cool.
Everyone in Newport with a diesel has to speed down Main Street for some reason.
I just want to say thank you very much for watching,
and please do not forget to be excellent to each other.
I thank you.
Excellent!
