In the full-size SUV arena, two of the most popular domestic heavyweights are battling
it out for your hard-earned dollar. If you guessed that that is the 2025 Chevrolet Tahoe
and the 2025 Ford Expedition, well, you would be right. Both offer features power and safety
buyers expect from a modern family chariot, but also have their own unique advantages,
like the option of a diesel engine or gas V8. Well, the Tahoe offers both. Need a vehicle that
can tow heavy loads? The Expedition's 9,600-pound max rating beats the Tahoe by 1,200 pounds.
And when it comes to options, technology, and style, the choices grow even larger. So,
let's dig in to which monster SUV is right for you. With a starting price of $60,495,
including destination, the Tahoe undercuts the entry-level Expedition by about $3,000.
The Tahoe's standard V8 is a proven engine. Still, buyers have the option to upgrade to an even more
powerful V8 or a fuel-efficient turbodiesel. Yes, you can still get a turbodiesel.
When equipped with the max trailering package and the 5.3-liter V8, the Tahoe can tow up to
8,400 pounds. Moving into the cabin, the Tahoe ekes out a legroom win in the first two rows,
but it gives up nearly two inches to the Expedition when it comes to the third row.
However, the Tahoe handily beats the Expedition's cargo capacity with the seats in place and folded.
The Tahoe's interior holds a strong visual appeal with a standard 11-inch digital instrument
cluster and expansive 17.7-inch infotainment touchscreen backed up with wireless Apple CarPlay
and Android Auto. Climb the trim ladder and you'll find even more to like, such as a 10-speaker Bose
sound system, a hands-free power liftgate, a power-operated center console, a panoramic roof,
a rear camera mirror, heated and ventilated front seats, and a rear seat media system.
On the safety front, well, the Tahoe comes with numerous standard systems. Those include
forward collision alert, automatic emergency braking, a blind spot monitor, adaptive cruise
control, reverse automatic braking, and Chevy's safety alert seats that vibrates you to warn the
driver of possible danger. The most impressive upgrade, however, is Super Cruise. That's GM's
semi-autonomous driving assistant. Available on all but the base LS trim, Super Cruise lets you
take your hands off the wheel and your mind off the road, controlling the steering, brakes,
and acceleration on over 700,000 miles of North American roads. Ford's answer to the family on
the go is the fully redesigned Expedition. Now, it's an equally large SUV with its own set of
attractive features. Instead of the Tahoe's numerous engine choices, Ford offers only one,
a twin-turbo V6. It is a powerful engine, however, that has no problem moving the Expedition and
out-towing the Tahoe. Yes, even a V6. The Expedition has room for up to eight passengers
and features an ingenious split rear liftgate. The design allows access to the cargo bay while
keeping precious valuables from rolling out. Like the Tahoe, the Expedition features a high-tech
interior with a 24-inch digital cluster and a 13.2-inch infotainment touchscreen featuring
wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Of the four trims available, all but the base Active
feature leather upholstery. The Expedition does a good job matching the Tahoe feature for feature
and offers a few things that Chevy can't match, such as a 22-speaker Bang & Olufsen unleashed
audio upgrade and massaging front seats. Ford, of course, has its own semi-autonomous driving system
called Blue Cruise, but unlike Chevy, Ford offers this option on every single trim.
And there's the off-road capable Tremor, a nice match for the Tahoe Z71 trim.
Both feature four-wheel drive and beefed-up suspensions, but the Tremor takes it up a notch
with 33-inch all-terrain tires, additional skid plate protection, and an electronic locking rear
differential. So, which one is better? If you're looking for the newest design, maximum towing,
and a killer audio system, well, then the Expedition wins. But if maximum interior space
and a choice between V8 or turbo diesel engine piques your interest, well,
then the Tahoe might have your name written all over it.
