I always want to hear your feedback so drop a comment down below ✅
hey guys hope you're having a wonderful
summer holidays so with September
approaching I decided to ask you guys
what you thought when I about when I
asked the question what do you think
about the tuition so I wanted to get
some responses just to see what your
guys's thoughts were and the response is
kind of surprised me some of you have a
somewhat negative view of it now of
course at first I was kind of hurt took
a bit personal so I thought you know
what let's address each one of these
concerns in order and see if there's any
kind of truth to it because a few of
them are indeed misconceptions so I
thought we'd go spend some time today to
go through exactly what the different
misconceptions are about tuition and try
and debunk them so to speak step by step
so without further Ado let's get into it
the first misconception that you would
come across is that it's for dumb or
weak students now part of this actually
came from a place of kind of a good kind
of place where you guys said that
essentially it's just to get up to like
a grade seven or an eight they won't
push you to get the highest grades
possible but what I did notice is that a
few of you guys actually she said this
in reference to school interventions now
School interventions and tuition are not
the same thing even if your school words
it as such the purpose of interventions
is to either make sure you pass or make
sure you reach your target grades beyond
that they don't care that much because
they just want to make sure that you get
a solid grade and if you are referring
to a tutor I'm just going to put it out
there you've got a bad tutor good tutors
will always try and push you to get the
highest grades possible if you want to
think about it a it's a good reference
if a student says they got higher than
they could ever believed that they could
have achieved that looks good on the
tutor but also you should just look for
tutors that are actually ambitious and
are willing to push you and don't be
afraid to ask them to push you as well
in my personal experience a lot of the
students that I've had well not all a
lot but there was a good chunk of
students that I had that were either
doing exams early doing grammar school
entry exams doing entry exams for
University and even doing additional a
levels now all of this was because they
wanted to get to the highest possible
level okay so it's not just for weak or
dumb students sure those people you know
people that are weak are going to get
tuition to help become strong but even
if you're strong you can benefit from
tuition especially because schools tend
to go at a fairly slow pace they want to
make sure everyone passes they don't
particularly care if you all get a
hundred percent or not so you write in
school you may be kind of held back a
bit because the school teaches to an
average but with tuition it's either one
to one or small classes that means that
average can be a lot higher which means
they're aiming a lot higher so I thought
this might be a good time for me to
advertise my own actual tuition that I'm
going to do so from September the first
week in September I'm going going to run
GCSE maths a level maths and a level
physics group classes no more than six
they're going to take place on the
weekdays and the weekends if you are
interested in this I have my email in
the description and you can also join
the Discord either one of those and just
register your interest let me know what
you think let me know what questions you
have I also am going to be doing those
YouTube live streams to offer a cheaper
alternative so these are going to be 10
pounds a month YouTube members but
you're going to get a lesson for GCSE
maths and a lesson for due to a level
maths as well where Jesus is on Tuesdays
from 6 p.m 7 p.m and of course a levels
is going to be on Thursday 6 PM 7 P.M
but the idea is that way you get at
least an hour of tuition every single
week for about two pound fifty which
makes it a lot lower you'll be able to
submit questions you'll be able to kind
of do all that normal stuff that we did
before so I thought I just want to
mention that just in case you want to
kind of note that in your Diaries or
whatever again you can't email or
comment any questions you may have the
next point is actually pretty hard for
me to argue with that it's expensive of
course I do good to tutor can charge
upwards of 30 pounds an hour 40 50 60
pounds an hour some people even pay over
a hundred pounds an hour however I found
a few studies that actually show that
that improving your grades will save you
and earn you a ton more money then
tuition will ever cost you so don't
rather do this get into those studies
right now so one uh kind of study done
by the Department of Education the
Link's going to be in the description
but I've also got it on screen somewhere
probably showed that for every grade
that you go up at GCSE corresponds to 23
000 pounds in lifetime earnings that's
for each individual grade now it should
be noted that this is only for past
grades and above so anything from grade
four and above so going from grade four
to grade 5 23 000 extra pounds and then
if you go up to a six another twenty
three thousand pounds and so on and this
works for the core subjects with so what
they're including there is science maths
and English they found with the
additional subjects that there was a lot
of variation in how much more money that
it would gain you but it will all gain
you money is noted that this is after
tax one last factor I want to point
about this kind of study in particular
is that the median annual income is 27
000 pounds so effectively a bit rough
calculation but effectively every grade
you go up at GCSE you are earning about
a Year's extra salary just to put that
into perspective so if you've gone from
a grade five to a grade nine that's four
times twenty three thousand pounds that
you've managed to make or in other words
four years of median income extra so
that kind of pays the tuition in and of
itself another report done this is for
you a level guys showed that these
average salaries for people that have
attended universities versus Russell
group universities were markedly
different with for example um
universities like lse and Imperial
offering far higher starting salaries
after graduation than ones like that
aren't in the Russell group itself and
it was also shown that for things like
medicine and stem you know the highly
competitive Fields this increase could
be over 20 percent for the starting
salary so this shows that if you do get
good grades at a level you can go to
these top universities this is Russell
group universities and earn a lot more
than people that didn't go to a Russell
group University so I know there's a
common thing that the university you go
to doesn't matter and to an extent
that's true but that's a whole another
topic that I can go and speak hours on
but in short they found that people that
attended Ross group universities earned
markedly more money than the people that
did not attend Russell group
universities especially if you're doing
things like medicine engineering or
anything related to Stem or economics as
well you would get around but again on
average 20 increased starting salary and
lastly but not least we have a London
Economics Report which reported that for
each grade a to c a level that you get
your average yearly income goes up by
seven thousand pounds that's every
single year now I'm going to put this
out that if you're spending more than
seven thousand pounds on tuition
that's that's quite a lot of money so
effectively in one year from graduation
you'll be earning a lot more money this
actually takes place immediately after
your A Levels so I know that the
previous kind of two studies that I
spoke about were talking about working
income which is after you've finished
education so you've went on to
University it's not going to affect you
until after University this even shows
for jobs that you get during University
you get paid more than the people that
don't have a levels and again seven
thousand pounds per a level is a big
amount I mean just think about it and
that's every single year on average
you're going to be doing three a levels
so it's 21 000 pounds if you get all
grade A stars to C's so overall what
does this show well for me this provides
a fairly good kind of basis that tuition
is worth the money will actually make
you money in the long run because it
improves your grades which is shown as a
link to actually earning more money now
is it the case that if you go to tuition
you're guaranteed to earn more money of
course not what it does it drills in
work ethic what it does is it helps you
understand the material these
qualifications although they may seem
pointless teach you skills that are
useful in the work environment and of
course we can't ignore the fact that
good grades look good on CVS and
applications so you get access to more
opportunities all of these added
together will grant you more money in
the future and of course this is the
last thing relating to finances when you
have a tutor chances are they have
connections they may know someone at a
top university they may know someone at
a good Law Firm or something like that
in which case you have that entry where
you have someone that can write you a
very personal reference per personal
references always do better last one
that I wanted to go through is kind of a
two for one because I kind of want these
companies together that it's time
consuming and boring now with boring
look if you've got a boring teacher I
completely understand that's the worst
thing ever because you just lose all
motivation you can't listen to their
droning on voice
Etc so again look for another tutor
that's the part that's why tuition is so
good you choose who you want to employ
and they are your employee they do what
you say and if they don't fit the bill
you can find someone else at school
you're kind of stuck with who you have
if you get the bad math teacher or the
bad English teacher you're kind of
screwed there's not much you can do
about that however with tuition you can
go through 10 different tutors and it
won't affect you negatively you can do
free trials with a hundred tutors and
pick the one that you like best there's
no harm in doing it in fact it's
something that I would encourage I know
that I advertise my tuition earlier on
in the video but only consider it if you
think my teaching math would work for
you if it doesn't I'm not offended go
ahead and find someone else that's
completely fine but with the time
consuming thing this also is
counterproductive I know that being
dragged into effectively second school
on a weekend or after school or during a
half term is probably not the thing you
want to be doing but I want to put this
out there you shouldn't always do what
you want to do okay a lot of the times
the things that help us improve are
things that we don't like doing most
athletes don't like training most really
intelligent people don't like studying
okay it's just a simple fact most people
at work don't want to work but we have
to do it in order to improve now the
reason why this actually will save you
time is because it's high quality
learning first and foremost you're in a
small group so you have well if you're
in a small group you have this
competition between each other and if
you're on your own it's even you know
there's another benefit but in a small
group or on your own you have this
attention from a tutor you can't slack
off they're going to be asking you
questions they're going to be talking to
you I mean seriously if you're not in a
conversation if you start zoning out I'm
going to notice immediately and quote
it's very hard to zone out when
someone's told into it directly face to
face or even online so in a small group
you're kind of pressured by other people
in order to interact and actually
understand the material and of course
you also have this greater attention you
can't slack off in a classroom you can
fall asleep this is 30 of you intuition
it's not but not just that you have
someone a professional who is watching
you do questions who is teaching you
stuff if you don't understand you can
get instantaneous help and if you're
doing a question on their notes you're
doing something wrong they can
understand your thought process and
correct that
so you're learning at the highest
possible level you've got the active
learning and I will point out that the
best tutors are not ones that just
lecture to you the entire time which is
why my videos can sometimes be a bit
wonky because I'm basically lecturing
you they will wait they'll let you
attempt it they'll watch what you do
they'll listen to what you say and point
out where you're going wrong where your
misconceptions are which means it's the
highest quality the most efficient thing
you can do with your time because you're
getting the most amount of learning for
the smallest amount of time not just
that but the fact that you don't want to
go shows that you probably wouldn't
study at home and I know a lot of people
say I can just learn this at home
are you though you you could I don't
deny that but are you going to though
probably not if you're anything like I
was at a levels I slacked off a lot I
slack off a lot of University too but I
paid for it by having to like do 10
hours a day months before my exams in
order to catch up
going to weekly tuition even if it's an
hour a week or two hours a week will
force you to do learning every single
week and regularity has been shown as
one of the top kind of methods or
mechanisms or vectors for learning if
you do something repetitively you'll
learn it better than trying to cram it
all in at once okay this is why if you
play piano once a week versus doing it
all in one week you will learn more
doing it regularly than you boil if you
try and cram so that kind of goes over
almost all of the misconceptions that I
got given but if you have any others
please leave them in the comments maybe
we'll make a part two maybe I'll just
answer you in the comments but either
way I hope this kind of addresses some
of them and kind of encourages you to
take the plunge again the majority of
tutors offer free trial lessons and
tutors like me have videos on YouTube so
you know how we work so you know if it's
going to work for you but not just that
if you have a tutor and you it seems a
bit pointless we don't like it
tell them to go away hey get another
tutor look out for yourself okay now I
want you to enjoy the rest of your
summer holidays I know there's not much
left before we get started with the
gcses or the a-levels but again take
this time to relax a little bit and get
ready for the new year I hope you have a
wonderful day and I'll see you in the
next one
