VAN LIFE IN THE MOUNTAINS OF BRITISH COLUMBIA. #vanlife#overland#offroad My name is Chrome i have been living in y cargo van for 6 years now. I started this lifestyle BROKE and IN DEBT and after 11 months of living the van life i cleared my debt and started to put my life back together and build for a better future. I have turned my original van into a badass camper van that is lifted with all the toys. Over the years i went from being broke and stealth camping in the city and sleeping at walmarts... to now, living fulltime in a jacked up van and driving deep off-grid into the backcountry and living life in the dirt. WOW LIFE HAS CHANGED. I now have a shop space to keep me busy through the winters here on Canada's westcoast. Went from Van Life to VAN LIFE + SHOP LIFE !!!!!! Come join this crazy van life journey of mine. HIT SUBSCRIBE, trust me its gonna be a WILD RIDE.
So last night I did something that I normally don't do. I pulled out the maps and I started
to look for destinations to go visit. Normally I let the road just guide me wherever but I always
miss a lot of things when I do that. So mapping things out this time is going to allow us to hit
some remote lakes I haven't been to and also some communities that I haven't visited yet.
Of all the times I've been up and down this island there's so much out here I haven't seen
and we got greeted this morning with a spectacular day. There is rain in the forecast a little later
and over the next few days but man I'm gonna take whatever we got here. So this morning we're just
gonna make a little breakfast and well we had some broken egg fiasco and anyway guys welcome
to my van life day. Ah look at the egg. Oh man it went inside outside. I broke it right on the
right on the edge here. Look it. Good morning everyone. What a way to start a day.
I see you found a little spot in the sunshine this morning. Good morning. A little bacon and
eggs for breakfast but last night I had one of the best sleeps I think I've ever had.
Truth. At least in the last six months anyway. I was out cold. I think it was the sound of the
loud river rushing beside the van but I didn't wake up today until 7 30 but I got a video edited
and uploaded. I was hoping to get an early start on today but it's 11 o'clock now. Having some
breakfast and me cruisy and you guys are gonna go get into a little bit of backcountry trouble.
Huh? What do you say? A little bumpy road action today? All right dishwasher there you go.
Oh breakfast was great. So I just noticed that my fridge has an error code on the front of it.
It's hard to read but right there. E1. And it shows me that the voltage right there is only
showing 11.4. And without a doubt that's why we're getting an error. My batteries are probably low.
34% state of charge. We my friends need to hit the road today and go have a little fun. We're
gonna go generate some electricity the fun way and in due time it looks like another camper's
just pulling in. Yeah perfect timing. Now that it's up and charging so let's get some drive time
in today. Now if you gotta generate your own electricity which we do living the van life
this is the way to do it. You know when I left on this trip I seriously thought about bringing
the Mercedes Sprinter with me. Even though it doesn't have a build inside or a heater
I was like 50 50 on the fence. Am I do we take it? It would be so fun to get it out here and see how
that all-wheel drive handles. But then I was like well it doesn't have a heater and that means if
the temperature does drop at night up here because we are traveling farther north those days are
gonna suck. Like hanging out in a van with no heater on a rainy day doesn't sound fun. But that's
right we're taking out the OG original home which is great because I can bushwhack it.
The maps last night that I've been through this area I haven't been this has been gorgeous out
Well I think this is it. Yeah this is like the land of fallen trees out here. Road is a no-go.
I'll be here for a week cleaning this trail up. Let's see if we can find another route down to
Oh this is a gorgeous spot. This would be the place to camp out. The camera's not picking
this up but there's rays of sunshine coming right down the front of that mountain.
Look at the snow-capped mountain over there and you can hear them you can hear them cutting over
there. Wow. I would park it right here. Beautiful. Now we gotta wind all the way back to the highway
to get out of here to get back in on the other side of this forest road. Yeah it looks like we
might have to go all the way back out to the highway and then poke our nose back in on the
other side of the river and then that'll take us down right where we couldn't get through.
So right there is where we had to turn around where all the trees were falling down. So hopefully
that'll get us down to there and then we can continue along the ocean side here down to an
ocean side camp spot right right there. Charging my cameras and other things on this one here.
There we go. It seems like every time I come out here I get myself in this very same scenario
multiple times in one day. Today I spared you guys the video footage of it. I probably four
or five times today I went up a road like this knowing that it was put in here just a logging
area and usually they're skinny roads with no turnaround points and a complete dead end.
Complete like not even an open area and here again I had to back all the way down.
Oh my gosh I need a backup camera. Speaking of cameras it's time for the sponsor of today's
video and this is how I keep an eye on my shop when I'm way out here. Today's video is sponsored
by Reolink. I've had the chance to personalize my security system around this shop using multiple
different styles of Reolink cameras including one that moves at the front gate that's powered by a
solar panel and today we're going to mount a really cool one inside the shop here. Setting it
up is pretty easy. You scan the code. Boom. Use with home hub. Yes. Are you sure you want to connect?
Yes. So this will connect to my smart hub unit which is mounted upstairs which all my Reolink
cameras connect to. Welcome to Reolink. Bada boom. We uh we have a camera connected. It's a shop
bay camera right there. Hold on let's mount this baby. Install is a cakewalk. You spin it and you're
done. We're gonna need to run a USB up there to power it. Install complete. Look at the angle of
that shot. Those two cameras stitch the whole shop together. Literally does my shop wall to wall.
That is 60 feet wall to wall. This camera can see both walls. I definitely got to get more of these
ones. These ones are really really really cool. You're over here stealing my tools and you're like
oh there's a camera. Oh that is so sick. So I have a Reolink hub upstairs. It's a little modem that
sits upstairs and it allows me to see all of my cameras that are connected to the same wi-fi
connection. And that one down at the front gate runs on a solar panel. It's connected to the wi-fi
hub in here and the one at the front of the yard is 150 feet down there. Connected. You see that
the little white dot on that pole? That's the front camera and the little solar panel. And we
also got the Reolink doorbell which works out really really well and it has two door chimes.
It freaked me out the first time. It's got this one which I can plug in the shop so when this
buzzes it'll buzz here. But this also buzzes on the hub that's in here. So right here is the Reolink
hub which all of my cameras are mounted to. This is connected to the wi-fi here. But that's the
image quality on the doorbell. That's a pretty good image. So if you guys want to experience a
whole new level of home security, off-grid cabin security, camper van security, because you could
literally plug this in in your camper van and use your star link that's mounted to the roof and
monitor your van from anywhere. So to create your own personalized security system with Reolink
please click the links down below you guys. Reolink, thank you for sponsoring today's video.
Right up here is a small town. It's got like
maybe 50 houses. Fantastic. There's a pub and a hotel. I don't even know if they're even open.
That's the pub in the hotel. I see nobody. Oh my gosh. Pub says open. Cool.
Little doggie on the side by side. Hi buddy. Lost Lake Village office. So it looks like there's
probably about, I don't know, maybe 100 or 200 homes in here. There's a regional library right there.
It looks brand new. What's that thing hold? Like 50 books? Wow there's people in there too.
I just sat around the side of the road there for about an hour
doing emails on the phone with Amanda making sure everything's going okay at the shop.
All right guys we're actually gonna backtrack a little bit. I'm gonna go down to an Oceanside
camp spot that we've been to before. There's another one right over here somewhere but I
remember trying to go through there last time and not being able to get through because of heavy
forestry. So we're gonna backtrack about 30 kilometers and go down to where we found the
dogs. If anybody's been around my channel for that long we found some dogs out there in the
backcountry. We're gonna go down that way to a beautiful Oceanside camp spot while the sun's still
up. Sky alright. There's nobody in there and it's missing the front license plate. In BC we have
license plates front and back. We're now on the other side of the river right about where we had
to turn around last time. So up ahead here these guys should be logging right across from us
somewhere. Alright so right here we have to go up and over the mountain. Alright so here we got a
bit of a climb up and over the mountain and down the other side to a beautiful oceanfront camp spot.
Oh there's there's some fallen rock on the trail here.
You know the last time I was out here driving down this very road
it wasn't as peaceful. I didn't even notice how beautiful this area was and today when I threw
the drone up and I realized how grand this area is driving down this forest service road right
beside the ocean. My gosh this was insane today. The last time I was way out here I didn't notice
it because I found a couple of dogs way out here in the backcountry roaming down the road and those
little puppies were so happy. They were following me and I tried to stop to talk to them and they
really wouldn't come close to me. Tried to give them some treats and then you know get them in
the van and give them a ride to wherever their owner is because these guys are way out here.
But they were having nothing to do with it they were like yeah bro we're not getting in that van
we heard those stories not gonna do it. But we kept driving and kilometer after kilometer no
matter how fast or slow I drove those two dogs were right behind me the entire time and when I
got down to the Oceanside campground nobody there owned the dogs. So someone helped me put the dogs
in my van we drove back to a local forestry yard out here and it turns out that's where they lived.
My subscribers reached out as soon as that video was posted locals that said hey chrome you did
the right thing. Those dogs are exactly where they need to be and this backcountry is their backyard
they roam out here all the time and I wasn't the first one to find them. I guess they've
been taken to the pound a few times. So if you're ever out here roaming around
and you find some puppies you might want to try the local log facility in the area because
sometimes that may be where they call home. But I'm going to shut up now so we all can enjoy
No freaking way. I wasn't expecting to have this place to ourselves.
There's a tugboat out there pulling some logs.
This is a good adventure today. Okay we're gonna go snag that firewood.
Is it dry? Oh it's pretty good. Nice. That backcountry did a doozy.
Holy cruzie. Come on homie. Lugabaloo in the bush time. Nothing like poop with a view.
All right little Jackery. Come on buddy.
Charging a cell phone. Put your disco lights on. Here you go pal. Hey you're a party. You're a
walking party. This is the kind of spot that sometimes deep in my soul I feel like I want
cooking at a lot lower heat. I'm learning. I'm learning. It's been an hour and that tugboat
is still there. That's the log boom. When we got here an hour ago it was right there. It's as far
as it's gotten. That's it. That's it for dinner. Nice and simple. Come on buddy. Let's take your
party off. You're a good boy out there today buddy. Today was pretty damn incredible.
Oh it was wild. Oh I can't wait to offload my drone footage and see it. Oh my goodness.
You guys have already seen it by now. All right how the batteries do today? We started off at 34.
We ended at 72. So as long as I remember to shut off my starling tonight I will be pretty good in
the morning. I got a tendency of doing that. I just be scrolling at night and I forget just
it's starlink. I forget I'm not in town and not on cell phone service at night. I just fall asleep
wake up in the morning. I'm like because that thing chews probably 25 to 40 watts on average
the whole time it runs. Sometimes higher sometimes lower. So it can chew your batteries down pretty
quick when you leave it on overnight and sometimes I forget like last night. All right guys thanks
for riding along today. This was a monster day. We drove a ton. It was a blast. Okay guys peace out.
See you on the next one.
