Good morning, Lindsay here.
And today we are going to be learning the waltz jump.
I've had a few suggestions for this and every time I see it, I'm like,
I want to do that. I really want to do that. It's going to be awesome.
And then I want to learn a full waltz jump and then a double waltz jump.
And I want to be able to do ice skating tricks on my roller skates.
So today we start that journey.
We're going to start by learning the waltz jump.
We're going to start by just running through some step drills.
I watched like three videos this morning about how to do this.
And so I think I have a very mediocre
handle on how I'm going to try and learn this.
And I'll probably be referring back to those videos.
I watched like the eHow video, the Dirty School of Skate video,
and some other video that was more of just a demonstration, I think.
Let's do a couple of quick warmups and then go through some steps and let's get
to this.
I've been trying to do that for a while now where you just kind of like you do
double turnout there, like second position.
And then you kind of just feet are turning out and you're trying to like keep
going sideways.
But I just don't have a good enough turnout to keep going completely sideways.
So I always turn,
but that's definitely one of my goals is to do that and like keep going like
flat sideways in a straight line.
Diagonal but closer. And you know,
I actually thought I could get away without wearing this helmet because like
ice skaters don't wear helmets. But now that I'm going to be jumping,
I'm like helmet time. Goodbye, ponytail.
I already feel more confident.
Bad side.
So update working on getting those 92A wheels.
And I also want to get the slide blocks.
So those two things are things I'm definitely planning on getting soon.
So we're working on that. I've been reading the comments guys,
and I try to respond to them. Pretty sure I respond to all of them. Okay,
so here are some made up drills that I just made up to get ready for doing this.
So I'm going to like start by going skating forward.
I'm going to jump from one foot to the other foot, one foot to the other foot.
Okay. Now I'm going to do circles.
Try to go circles with like single feet.
So like pretending that there was like a circle drawn on the ground.
Now inside edge.
Oh my God. What's the right, what's the right amount of speed for this?
Wait, why is it so hard? Why is it so hard?
Can people do this? Wait,
I literally can't make a circle like this on one foot.
Am I supposed to be able to do that? That's so bad.
I'm just like going straight toe hop, going straight toe hop.
Am I supposed to be able to do that? Let's try the other foot.
Outside edge. It's lovely. It's great. Perfect. Inside edge.
No, that was a little better. Like, I guess I can kind of do it,
but I like fall right out of it. Okay. Let's practice the foot drills for this.
So it looked like in the video, they were skating forward.
And then I need to stand up to do this. Skating forward.
And then arms go in and they kind of do one of those.
I saw a landing that was like this and then they went into arabesque.
I'm skating forward. Oh, I don't even know if I turned the right way.
Consult the video. Cause I don't know which way to turn.
Okay. I think I've got it. I mean,
like just the idea of understanding how to do it.
So we have left arabesque,
left arabesque.
Then we're going to bring our arms in and jump,
land, right arabesque.
Here, here. We're skating into it.
Like this. And then we go.
I wouldn't have landed on a straight line, but at least I kind of jumped that time.
Arabesque. Well, kind of.
Mini arabesque. Then we're going to bring it up around.
Catch and land. Arabesque.
Pull it in. Keep it upright. Land and land.
Arabesque. Bring that foot around and catch and land.
Now let's do this with confidence. Arabesque.
I feel like as soon as I jump, like as soon as I'm pressing to jump,
there's no momentum cause I can't push forward and back,
but I can only push like sideways on my skates, which is super weird.
Cause like in gymnastics, you would like push off the ball of your foot like that.
But it's like the skate took that away completely.
Wow. That was messy. Land and open.
I can't make momentum. Yeah. It's the weirdest thing.
It's like, I can't push off the ground.
I'm just like lifting up my legs and hoping for the best.
Can I push off to the side though? Can that help?
Do I want to push off from the side? I mean, I know that, uh,
Debra in her video was talking about inside edge, outside edge.
I guess that's probably important to be able to push like inside, outside edge.
I think I was better just doing it stationary.
I'm going to practice it stationary a couple more times.
It's so messy. I literally have to take off my skates to prove to myself that,
that it's not me. It's the skates making this hard. Like I can do this.
Like I can do this motion. This move is stealing my confidence.
It's so dumb. If anybody, if anybody comes to like skate at the skate park,
I'm going to have to like get out of here so fast cause I look so stupid.
So here, here, here,
and arabesque. Oh man.
It's so much easier to push off the ground with no skates.
Now let's pretend I'm skating into it. Skating. And then we're here,
here and arabesque. Skating and we're skating.
Part of me kind of wishes somebody had demonstrated it without skates so I could
like understand like what was going on.
For some reason it kind of reminds me of this,
but not this because I can push off the ground. Okay.
Back to figuring out how to do this on a roller skate now.
Why, why do, why do these wheels got to make things so hard?
We've got it on flat ground. You got to do those land drills.
Nobody else did the land drills, but I can barely understand it on land.
How can I do it on wheels?
Okay. Let's try some more drills. Just standing in place.
Exactly what I was doing with no skates on,
but with skates on this time. How do I push forward?
My skates are so rolly. There's nothing to grab onto with my toes.
I'm just swinging and I feel silly.
So much of my little, my toes stop. Oh, it's still there. We're good.
I know I look dumb doing this. Okay.
That one was better.
I'm just loosely and floppily bringing my back leg back and swinging it forward
and just hoping for the best because that's the only way I can figure out how to
generate momentum for this. What the heck?
Oh, it was messy, but it was there.
Also I guess it's kind of helping to like be rolling.
I think rolling is helping a little bit like just at a medium slow pace.
It's helping I think.
So that's one way of I'm generating momentum is rolling forward and the other
way is swinging this back leg in,
you know, the best way I can figure out, which is floppy.
Let's think about body position.
So I'm going to think about trying to stay upright instead of like,
I think I'm bringing my chest down.
So let's try and stay nice and tight like a pencil and swing that leg tighter
and stay super tight.
I heard my skate like slide. I'm not completing it.
I'm like landing kind of like inward,
like this, like sideways.
And then I have to spin the wrong direction to save myself.
It was so messy. Ooh, downhill. Okay.
Downhill is good. Oh no, not so good.
Not so good.
Okay.
I somehow went from landing too close on the inner edge to landing too far on
the outer edge and having to swoop the other way.
It was good. It was fun I think.
Leave me a comment rating how you feel like my waltz jumps are.
I'm going to do a few more. Rate these.
Nice line here. Let's see if I can stay on the line.
No, no, no, no.
Don't rate that one.
It's like I'm just slapping my foot on the ground and then falling because my
upper body did not want to do that.
My upper body did not want to go where I placed my foot.
My upper body was completely somewhere else.
My toe stops are getting a workout today. Man, that was bad.
Okay. How's that?
Okay. There's like a, there's like a break in the concrete right there.
It scares me every time.
So I do new move combo.
The waltz jump into needle kick.
The waltz jump
into needle kick.
That was so lame. Yeah. Let's just do some good waltz jumps.
That was bad. Okay.
So one of the things that I'm noticing while I'm doing this is my obliques are
starting to like, I actually feel it in my obliques. How silly is that?
Like just trying to engage my obliques for this.
Turned out sloppy. Turned out okay.
I thought for sure I was going down on that.
Kind of did fall out of that.
It feels so weird just swinging my leg into this. It feels so sloppy.
I wish I could make it better.
I hope when I watch this that, uh, I can figure out how to make this better.
It feels like I'm wearing ankle weights and I'm just trying to just swing my leg
around like this. Swinging my leg heebie jeebie.
That was good. That was so much better I think. Maybe it's not that bad.
Maybe it's not. Oh, whoa. Which way do I turn?
Deduction for low chest landing.
Okay. I think I've basically like at least got the basics of it down.
Let's make a TikTok.
These are the steps that I ran through.
Okay. So that's it for today.
Thanks for your comments on the skills that you want me to learn. Uh,
I also saw that there was like 180 jumps on two things and off of things and heck
yeah, I'm definitely going to do that too.
So those were the comments that I got.
So leave me some more comments so I can learn the skills that you guys think I
should try. I'll see you guys in the next video. Bye.
You put your heart on to chase it away.
