So it's my first, my literal first time at the Texas Renaissance Fair. I really
have no idea what to expect. I'm thirsty and I'm hungry. I heard there's mead.
Apparently a cannon kicks this off. I'm just waiting to hear that boom and then
let's get things started.
I should have expected that. I knew it was coming.
My king, my queen, thank you for having us at RenFest.
It's the order of the realm that everyone should throw off their cares and enjoy their day full of wealth.
Indeed. Well of course His Majesty and I have invited the courts from all of Europe to come and celebrate
because a celebration is what we truly need these days.
I'm so confused. There's no rules.
YOLO has been a part of RenFest for so long but this is my first time.
What do I need to know? Tell me all about Texas Renaissance Festival.
So Texas Renaissance Festival, this is the 48th festival. It's 70 acres large.
We also have a 270 acre campground. You can stay for the whole weekend and you can play all weekend long
in a completely unique 16th century Renaissance world.
Since it's my first time, Carl, I need top three tips for making it through RenFest. What do you got for me?
Well, it starts even before you get here. Make sure you're properly hydrated and have a really great pair of shoes.
Second off, come in, get a program. The program's got all the show schedules, it's got all the maps,
and it's easy to lose track of time here in the 16th century without our fancy technology and all that.
So make sure you come up with an agenda. It's about coming out and having fun.
So come as you are, you know, in your jeans and your t-shirts, or come as you aren't and be something completely different.
Well, the thing that the Queen made sure that I know is I need to get dressed, don't I?
It's time to get you in some Renaissance clothes.
Well, I'm ready. Let's do it.
Let's do it.
Jodi, thank you so much for inviting us. Boss Lunch is the place to be. Tell me about this outfit.
This is one of our 25-yard skirts with our beautiful Madison dress over the top of it and one of our overbust corsets.
You can come here to find things for women, men, everyone?
Yes, ma'am. Even the children.
Well, I think it's time for me to get dressed.
Almost ready. Suck it in.
New this year, we have our Thirsty Pirate. We also are very happy to have our first meadery on site.
We're comprised of three meaderies, mine, the Firm Meadery in Conroe, Dave's Skull and Potion Meadery in Conroe, and Bruce's Griffin Mead in Cold Spring, Texas.
So, we three fools make up Wren Mead.
Well, what a unique way to bring it all together here at Wren Fest.
I don't exactly know what mead is. What is mead?
Mead is humanity's oldest fermented beverage. It is simply honey wine. It's not nearly as simple as that, but at its base, that's what it is.
We love the Texas Renaissance Festival. It's probably the largest amount of people together in one place drinking mead at any one given time.
We're so proud to be the official meadery of the Texas Renaissance Festival.
I don't know if you're supposed to drink the whole thing in one.
That's very yummy.
Welcome to the Thirsty Pirate. It's something that we've been working on all year.
We had an opportunity to go ahead and expand, and we actually have a Thirsty Pirate for about 1,000 people to come in here and enjoy.
Arr, for the Thirsty Pirate!
Who knew at the start of the day I would be on a horse, but this is the Queen's personal horse.
This is something that anyone can do at Wren Fest, though. You can ride a horse and be just like a knight.
Well, without all the death stuff. Hopefully.
Huzzah!
To get through Wren Fest, you'll definitely need to fuel up, so we stopped by the Polish Pub and check out all this yummy food.
We've got pierogies, we've got sausage, we've got cabbage, and we've got bigo, which I've never tried.
So, let's dig in.
That's delicious. And of course, to wash it all down, you gotta have a beer.
Hack Winery is located down in Santa Fe, Texas.
I curated a wine tasting last year, and then this year we've kind of upped the ante a little bit.
We've got some really, really cool, never-before-seen holographic displays that we're utilizing in this tasting.
Cheers!
At the end of the night, we have a fantastic fire performance show called Solar Rain.
And then we conclude the night after that show with a world-class fireworks display, and it covers the whole top of the festival with fireworks.
It's just a great way to end it.
Coming up, it's the most important meal of the day.
Brunch Fest next.
