On today's episode of Watch J.R.G.O. we are in Dallas, Texas, well the south side of Dallas
and I just bought back my 200,000 mile Porsche Boxster. What is going on guys? I'm Watch J.R.G.O.
and today it might be dark outside. It is late night but like I said we are back at In-N-Out
in Dallas, Texas with my old Porsche Boxster and I know it's super super loud on the highway here
but first stop had to be In-N-Out. Mike and I used to make regular trips down here. We would
leave Kansas at lunch and we drive straight to Dallas just so we could have some In-N-Out.
We wanted to eat our cardboard fries. Let's cut to that now. We didn't actually come to Texas to
buy a Porsche. We came to Texas for the In-N-Out. Yeah, that's what it's all about. Mike went full
OG here, pink lemonade and I went classic dark pepper here and you went crazy on the fries.
Went crazy on the fries. I went boring but you know I've done the animal style fries and I'm not
like I'm not super about it. I only get it like once a year. That's true. I gotta go all the way.
You know what it's probably been I bet it's been two and a half maybe even longer. I'd have to
look back through my phone. It's been that every bit of that for me. Yeah, all right well we're
here. We got a Porsche. We got good food. We got In-N-Out. We're happy. Let me test this. It's
slightly better than cardboard. Great burger. Let's go. So it's now time to head home. We're
gonna jump in the cars. I've got the Volt here and obviously the Boxster's here. Mike's driving.
What do you want to drive? I'll stick with that one for now. It's smart. It's smart. I also would
go with car drive stealth because we just sat in traffic for 30 minutes and I forgot what traffic's
like in a manual. It's bit of it but with that said, let's get back on the road and head to
Buc-ee's. You know we have to and fill this thing up. And we're starting this trip off at 198,580
miles. We'll just rolled over 81 right there and when we get back we should be almost at 199
and then I'm gonna put a couple thousand miles on it the next couple weekends.
We got Mike driving the Volt back and we just found a 4G Eclipse that's clean. All right I want
to say it's clean right because I'm giving them all the credit in the world. These cars were
awesome but that tire is completely flat and then they just like had a wreck. Dallas is wild guys
but it's cool. We made it. Look at this. We got we got to unload the cars now. We gotta drive.
But guys we've made it to the promised land of course. The Buc-ee's is here.
All 8,000 gas pumps at once. It's kind of funny that looks like one of those infinite mirrors
but no that's just real life. But here we are. That's the Buc-ee's life you know. So we got the
Boxster here. The Volt's out of gas. The Boxster's actually full but we're going to fill up both of
them real quick. And that was a trip man. That was the longest 40 miles of our lives right there.
Stop and go traffic the entire time. But this thing is doing great. It's pretty much exactly
the car that I that I sold it as. We tinted the windows. Tinted the windows. Added these clear
markers. Clear markers. And that's pretty much it. It's the exact same car. Everything looks the same.
This is our first time seeing it too huh. With the light yeah. Yeah nice and bright out here.
Even still has the PCA sticker in it. If I remember this is a two-owner,
three-owner car. One of the two. We are back in the shop with my 2006 Porsche Boxster that I sold
because I was afraid of hitting 200,000 miles on it. Now I sold it I think at 196,000 miles which
was already very very close and I wanted to roll it over. But also like I said I was scared of the
value hit that this thing would take once it actually had that two pop up on the display.
But now it sounds like fun. So I'm going to tell you guys the story of buying this thing back and
the subscriber that wanted to return it. And I'm going to tell you about the car for just a couple
seconds first. So this is 2006. These cars were refreshed. The Boxster was refreshed in 2005.
It got bumped up to the 987.1 which got rid of the runny egg headlights. And people love these.
These are worth far more than the first generation typically because the headlights. I think the
headlights were like a major thing for Porsche people. I don't hate the runny egg personally but
this is a sharp looking car. I'm a big fan of it. It got new wheel arches. It got larger vents in
the back there. You can fit 19 inch wheels easily now. Probably even 20s. But this one is on the
19s. It makes 236 horsepower out of its little 2.7 liter power plant. And this is the 5 speed.
Now that's a little bit unfortunate. It's a win some you lose some situation. These were also
available as a 6 speed. Typically I think the 6 speeds ended up in the S's. This is a base model
but the 5 speed ratios are very nice. I think the 6 speed would be a little better for those
long highway cruises home that I just did. But it was just fine. Sure it's turning over like 2700
3000 rpm on the highway at 85 mile an hour. But Porsches like to hang out at those rpms. It seems
weird right when you're coming from v8s and domestic stuff and you know 10 speed transmissions
today. But this old 5 speed does very well. And Porsches do shine about 4000 rpm. That's where
they're all incredible. And I gotta say this little flat six hanging out in the back that
we can't really see because it's totally covered up right. There is a trunk here and you have to
take basically everything apart if you need to get to the engine. But that little flat six engine
still rips today. This thing makes good power and second and third gear it's an absolute blast to
drive around. I do have the Porsche decals on here and I think those help the car out a lot.
They really visually make it look correct. So if it didn't have the door decals that would look
a little bit iffy. And if you guys remember I put in the Satoto head unit. So I went through this car
did the tune up put the CarPlay head unit in it. Kind of fixed a bunch of little things. Fixed the
top because it wouldn't seat correctly when it was closing. That's because the elastic goes bad. It
looks like the elastic's gone bad again which is typical right. I just need to replace that strap.
And the new owner well the subscriber that bought it from me said that the elastic that I used
is still in the glove box. So we don't even have to go buy more. I think this time we get to fix it
for free. It cost three dollars last time which I know is a tremendous amount of money. But when
you're talking about one of the cheapest boxers on earth because it's almost at 200,000 miles.
Well it might be a lot of money. Anyway Brian bought it from me. He drove this car home from
Dallas and owned it for the last two or three years. It's hard to believe it's been that long
right. Maybe we're getting old. I don't want to remind you guys but you gotta think about it.
And he made some improvements to the car. So when it left here it still had the amber markers. He
put on these nice clear amber LED ones which look really good. I remember these rock chips were here
the whole time. None of that's new. Like I said 200,000 miles on a Porsche. And he fixed a few
other little things like the amplifier for the front speakers. We found out that was unhooked
and that's why the speakers were so quiet literally the day I was selling it to him. So I didn't have
time to mess with it. He went ahead and sorted that out. I think he put new door speakers in it.
So now it actually gets quite a bit louder than it did before. Also when I sold it the sun visors
were getting pretty annoying. Sun visors wear out. I don't know. They really wear out on German
things. Like my Maserati does it too. Why can't they figure out sun visors? They seem pretty easy.
But this one would droop and it would go to like right here and just kind of stay. Well he replaced
it looks like the little holder here with the detent in it so that the sun visors actually stay
up which is super nice. And he added a little magsafe holder beside the head unit so your phone
can just magnetize up there. Put the weather text in it I think. I don't think it had weather text
before. And also this little bluetooth remote for the radio. I might take that back off but honestly
it's kind of handy. I know I said he was returning it to me but I think he sold it back to me for
$3,000 less than I sold it for him. I don't remember the exact numbers but that's what I
recall happened. Now let's look at the mileage since we are back home. It has 198,973 and today
before this video is over we're going to make sure that it says $199,999. And in two weeks I'm
taking this to Porsche Palooza. I was already Porsche shopping. The timing all worked out when
he emailed me and asked if I wanted to buy it back. I was looking at buying my dream 911 Turbo S
finally which is just the greatest car on the planet. I don't think anything compares to that.
Although this is a good car. I remember the first video I made I said this was
the fake Porsche that fake Porsche people buy or whatever. But then I drove it all over Arkansas
and we absolutely ripped in this car. It handles great. I'll give it some credit but I'm still
allowed to have my opinion. The 911 Turbo S is the car. It's the car that defines Porsche and I
really don't care that this might handle better. I want 700 and well 800 horsepower. That's the
right number. And all-wheel steer and all-wheel drive. Once you've driven the pinnacle of cars
and you can go 0 to 60 in two seconds that is just the bar and nothing else compares. So this
is the cheapest 987.1 on the planet. There really are no cheaper cars listed on the internet or
anything like that. And after a Porsche Palooza this one will probably be relisted. It's exactly
the way it was when I left it. All of this came to me with these little brakes and the speaker
grille there. But other than that like there's not much to give you a tour of right. We got the five
speed right there. It does have single auto climate control which works great. We have cruise which is
perfect. The power top is still working great. The seats can flip forward if you flip their little
deal right there. You've got the nice solid back. A little window cover hanging out back there.
There's just not much to say. Auto windows. Power mirrors. No auto headlights which is a big pain.
I don't know when the last time I really drove a car without auto headlights was. Yesterday. And
the updated gauges that the 987's got. So more circular gauges. And I actually love the font
on these. It's great. Of course later on these got replaced by the 718 Boxster and Cayman. And
I've driven the 718 with PDK and that is a little more my style. I'll do about anything to have a
dual clutch. Greatest transmission on earth. But this is still incredibly fun for like a fifth of
the cost of a used 718. Let's also open up the front and the back. So you get a frunk and a trunk
in the Boxster. I know right. The storage is crazy. I do have the wing up. It works perfectly but
I had it up just a minute ago when I took this to town to deliver some packages.
We've got our oil and coolant reservoirs right there. And you should be able to see into the
coolant reservoir but this one's honestly kind of old. So I don't think you can really see the
level there anymore. And then I forget what this opens. I think this is just the emergency release
to open the trunk right there. And you can see the wiring to the backup camera that was all
tucked away but has fallen down over the years. But I added the backup camera too. It's still
working great. Center exhaust looking good on this car. The rear end of it is really where it shines.
These things look very cool from the back. And you've got the cool Porsche cup holders like it's
or you can close the center. And we'll put the cup holders back up. These actually work
very well for what they are. Better than the Lambo ones that are a little iffy sometimes
if you have the option. And here in the frunk we've got a lot of storage. So this is an insane
frunk. You can stack at least two 24-inch carry-ons in here. You have to love that. Of course we found
the amplifier was like hanging on here somewhere. I forget where. Brake reservoir right there. But
there's an aftermarket amplifier in here. And we didn't notice that until the car was leaving.
So this is your battery cover. There it is. So what is this? Oh Rockford. Yeah check that out.
Tool kits in here. Tow hooks in here. Some slime to fill the tire up because you don't have a spare.
And then this Rockford amplifier that replaced the factory speaker amplifier. And that's probably
where the issues were. And then one of these connectors is unplugged which is a little weird.
A lot of stress on the wires too. I think this all needs tucked back in. Not sure what's up with
that connector though. Because it does connect to a few wires. Maybe it's got blown speakers in the
rear. And I know you guys aren't going to believe this but the hood struts work. There's a chance I
changed them. I don't really remember. It's been so long. But the hood struts on this car work. That's
just a sign of quality right there. Again don't quote me on this because it's been a very long
time. But I bought this car from Enthusiast Auto Sales. It belonged to a PCA member that took care
of it meticulously right. I mean the tires were relatively fresh when I got it. Oil service.
All the service was up to date for the most part. And I think that made me like the third owner
which would make me. Will just call me the third owner again instead of the fifth owner. But it's
very low ownership number too. It's not like this car has been passed around. It's just been driven.
And Brian also didn't put many miles on it. I think I sold it at 196 and he sold it to me at like
198. Somewhere in that ballpark there. So with that said let's go put 199 on this car and talk
about how it drives. I'm excited to have it back. Perfect car for Porsche Palooza. This isn't how I
planned on rolling over one of the cool mileages here. But there is a huge wreck in front of me and
it's basically standstill traffic here as we hit 198 989 which is going to be a very cool number.
But it's going to take me a very long time to get there.
There we go. 198 989. All right guys the next update is when we roll over 199 here in a few
more minutes. So I'm very excited for that one. We're not going to hit all nines today. I don't
know what I was thinking. I just said that because that's what we'll be at in like two weeks. But
we're going to hit 200 soon. Before that we got to hit the 199 000. We are moments from
rolling it over. Bring on the nines. There it is. 199 000. It is close to the magic number now.
Just one more day of driving. I had to throw the top up just so we could hit that number
and I can't wait to hit the next big number because it's coming so soon. Now let's get this
Boxster back to the shop and we're going to go through it before we hit that 200. We got to do
tune up maintenance everything and make sure it's ready for the next the 300 000 mile mark too. Well
there you have it guys. We are running the number up 199 000. It's actually 020 now. We're still
piling the miles on this car and it drives great. Obviously traffic's not very fun for testing out
your Boxster but this thing turns in incredibly well. It still makes great power. It's just better
than you'd ever expect for how cheap of a Boxster it is. And in the next video we're going to figure
out everything that needs fixed on it. I've been making a list. So that is it for today guys. Thank
you so much for watching. Don't forget to head on over to shopwatchgerica.com for cool shirts not
like this. And please like, share, subscribe, do whatever you want to do and I will talk to you
next time. The clear markers really helped too. It should have always had clear markers
to match the clear section of the taillights. You can see what I'm talking about there. No other
amber on the car. You can't just put one random piece of amber on there. So shout out to Brian
for selling it back to me. I do want to show you guys something I'm pretty excited about. The MR2
has been sitting here for two days since we did that oil pan gasket. And no leak! Look at that!
This thing was leaving huge puddles everywhere. I think we finally got the MR2 mechanically sorted.
Speedo cable is a one of these years kind of thing. Who needs a speedometer? Let's be real.
But it's going over to Eric's now where it's heading over to get painted. And when this
thing comes back it's going to be very cool to see a 91 MR2 look kind of brand new and at least
run like new.
