The world's first all carbon fiber airbox on a 2025 GXSR1000 turned this thing into a monster... and we saved weight!
What's up guys, welcome back to the channel.
For those of you who don't know, my name is Chris Moore,
and in today's video, I've got the 2025 GSX-R1000
on the lift, getting its next round of modifications.
And these modifications, some of them are tried and true,
and then some of them, we're trying them
to see if they're true today, boys.
Yeah, that's right.
We've got a brand new, first time ever seen
full carbon fiber air box, top and bottom.
This is made by Carbon Smith.
This is a super nice piece,
and we're going to be putting this thing on there.
We're going to be weighing the stock air box,
and then we're going to see if we get any more horsepower
from just installing this air box.
We got a few other modifications we're going to be doing.
We're doing a 520 chain conversion,
Vortex sprockets, front and rear.
We're doing Brock's pair valve block off plates,
because whenever you do the air box,
you got to, he made it bigger on the bottom.
So we got to make room
by getting rid of our factory pair valve.
And this thing is also due for an oil change.
So we're going to be doing its first ever oil change.
We got the Allison ProDrive 21 less than zero weight oil.
Now this is a racing oil.
This is not really made for everyday street use.
However, they do make ProDrive 21 oil
that's not less than zero weight,
but the less than zero weight stuff, guys,
is not really made for street use.
But if you do run the less than zero rate,
you have to run this Petron Plus additive.
This stuff is a must.
This makes basically all the oil
stick to the bearings in your motor.
Long story short, this and this got to go together.
All right?
But this oil probably works two or three horsepower.
It does make a huge difference.
I've run it in a bunch of my bikes before
and it definitely works.
There's a little pricey, but for track bikes,
you know, stuff that you're going to be racing
and trying to get every last horsepower out of,
this stuff right here is the shiznit.
So we got the lightweight 520 chain.
This is the lightest chain,
lightest, strongest chain on the market.
So the last time we weighed this bike,
it weighed 403 pounds.
We're going to see how much we finish up with,
with the new modifications.
Once we get the bike, I guess you say all the new parts,
this is going to get us under 300 here
and hopefully it's going to get us some more power.
Stay with us, guys.
Here we go.
All right, guys.
While Michael is installing our wheel back on
with our new sprockets,
I've got a few, what I call pointless items.
I'm not even going to say pointless items.
I'm going to say items that the motorcycle
can function without.
Now we're starting to get this into a little more race prep.
Now you can think these are small, petty,
whatever you want to call it.
I'm just showing you what step-by-step
we're doing to this thing to get rid of some stuff.
Now this little rubber flapper right here,
this goes right in here and all it does
is keep the shock from getting dirty,
grit, grime, stuff like that.
Me, I maintenance my bike 24 seven
and I keep all that stuff perfectly clean.
So we're going to put that on there.
We've got our factory chain guard, which we have removed,
which weighs pretty close to nothing,
but we're going to weigh it anyway.
We also got the front sprocket guard.
Now all this stuff is crazy lightweight from the factory,
but we're going to remove it.
And then we have also removed the factory handlebar ends.
We don't need these.
These things are crazy heavy and let's put this on here.
And with all those little pointless items,
we have lost 1.4 pounds.
Now some of you are like,
who cares if it's 1.4 pounds lighter?
Well, pretty much none of us.
This time, but when we do that, and then we do that,
and then we do that, and then we do that,
now all the pointless items that we did
that only made one pound difference,
now the bike's 10 pounds lighter.
Now 10 pounds, if you and your buddy are the same weight
and you got the same horsepower,
the 10 pounds weight difference of your pointless items
that we took off, that's going to put you in front of him.
So like I said,
we're going to do all these little small things.
You can pick and choose what you may want to do
to your bike.
All this stuff costs me zero.
So I lost 1.4 pounds for $0,
and the bike is going to look much cleaner
without those things.
Now this carbon fiber air box,
this is going to lose us some weight.
This is expensive.
So maybe you don't necessarily do this just to add weight,
but this is going to add a good bit of power.
And I feel like it's also going to add a good bit of speed
once we got, you know, 180, 200 mile an hour winds
coming into that because the air going in,
well, we can fit a lot more in there.
So let's continue on with our project
and we will get this on the scales at the end
to see what we actually lost total weight.
Here we go.
The bike is loaded up on the dyno,
still has the stock air box on it.
Let's make a pull with this thing.
See what we get.
We'll do a couple of pulls back to back to back.
Now remember, we did some pulls with this thing
in crazy cold weather.
It made over 200 horsepower uncorrected.
Keep in mind.
And as I told you in that video,
that video was for fun and was not really realistic.
This is back to realistic weather.
It's about 70 degrees inside the dyno room right now,
74 degrees, 19% humidity.
So I guess you would say we still got good air,
but let's see what kind of realistic power numbers
we have now.
Let's do it.
all right guys so really good strong numbers remember this thing has nothing
but an exhaust pipe and a tune all right as far as engine performance goes but we
have the 520 chain conversion which we know from previous tests is usually
about a 2 horsepower gain and that's it so we're about to do pair valve block
off plates and then we are going to do the carbon smith air box with a sprint
f185 air filter and we're gonna see what we get so you can see I ran it three or
four times off video so that's these runs 188.06 and I did it two times on
video 187.41 and 188.02 so there are some back-to-back to back-to-back numbers
that all look really close really consistent 188 horsepower 85 ish foot
pounds of torque so let's pull the factory air box get the new air box
installed and then we're gonna put the sprint air filter and see what we got
all right guys the stock air box is off now I did not include the stock air
filter in there because or I'm sorry I did not include the stock velocity stacks
because I do not have the velocity stacks in this one and we both got to
have velocity stack so you can see here we're at a solid four point three four
point four pounds four point three nine the new air box 1.4 pounds so a good
solid three pounds saving on our air box now let's put it on and see if it makes
any more power air box is installed sprint f185 air filter carbon smith
dimple velocity stacks you can't see them but underneath you have to have
pair valve block off plate so we got the Brock's performance pair valve block off
plates but so far the fitment has been perfect on the whole entire setup very
impressed at how well everything fits how well it all looks now let's see how
it all performs here we go guys about to do the first pull I'm excited to see
this I really hope this works because we've been I guess you would say we've
already tested all the new parts there is to come out for these things this is
the first new new part we've had in quite a while for these new GSXR 1000s
let's see what we got now to recap we've switched from the stock air box stock
air filter stock velocity stacks now we have carbon air box carbon smith
velocity stacks and sprint f185 air filter let's see what we got
okay we got to do some tuning changes because I see the bike is pretty lean
due to the different velocity stacks but let's see if we can squeak a little more
power out we got a pretty consistent 191 we were at 188 so overall pretty good
gains but I think I can tweak the tune and get us a little more power because I
definitely see some some problems here let's clear all this gibberish out we're
gonna put our best run from the stock stacks and our best run that we just did
all right so we got our green run and our red run so you can see here we've
got a couple little spots the green made more a couple little spots the red made
more but up top is where we expected to see our gains and we've got some pretty
good gains we went from 178 to 188 now that's with our dyno ram air fans which
they cram in a lot of air they do work really well but there's no way they're
producing 200 mile an hour winds directly into the air box and of course
everybody can expect that of course we're gonna touch up this air fuel ratio
and see if we can make things a little better the tune is tweaked here we go
let's see what our final power gains are with the three new mods we did the air
box the velocity stacks in the air filter once we get done with this we're gonna
put the stock air box on and we're gonna run it with the air filter and the
velocity stacks to see what the box only is worth I don't know how much
gains is gonna show on the dyno I know on the street is where the extra air
flow is really gonna shine but we're gonna find out if we get actually any
actual dyno gains from the air box
yeah he was to stop making some good power 192 62 so I had our best run not
necessarily the best run but right at the best run pulled up for the stock
setup it actually made 188 021 time but out here it was pretty close to the
same let me delete 47 so it'll change colors let's get it to red now we can
see it better all right so you can see we've got a power gain now that the
thing is tuned every single where so the the carbon Smith velocity stacks have
helped us mid-range low range everywhere and look at this out here
guys so 13 9 let's just call it 14,000 rpms 10 horsepower again let's look
right here 183 to 192 that's at 13 5 we went from 184 to 192 so really
significant gains all the way out here 177 to 188 basically close to the rev
limiter so overall super super good and then here in the mid-range looks like a
couple horsepower gain there as well but overall I'm super impressed now if this
air box part of me wants to say yeah definitely gonna help on the dyno but
part of me's like how much air can we actually force in here with these two
fans now we're definitely forcing it in but let's find out for ourselves that's
what these experiments are all about here we go another day of our testing
here with the stock air box versus carbon air box now we did the gains or
we showed the gains from installing the carbon Smith air box the carbon Smith
velocity stacks and the sprint f185 air filter we got 10 horsepower gain you
guys saw that but I'm like man no way the air box picked it up that much so
we're gonna see exactly how much the air box gained it now when we first
started this whole project I knew this air box was gonna be cool I knew it was
gonna be lighter but I didn't really expect to see a giant gain of power on
the dyno so today we're gonna dyno this thing again we're gonna get fresh
numbers because it's new weather a new day new everything we're gonna see how
much power does it make today with the carbon box the carbon stacks and the air
filter they're all installed right now okay we're gonna run it today get our
fresh numbers then we're gonna put the stock air box back on we're gonna run it
with carbon Smith stacks and the sprint air filter so basically the numbers from
what we got now to what we got here in just a minute are gonna be a direct swap
of just the air box let's see if it actually gives us any more power
guys this thing just keeps getting a little better and a little better this
thing I don't know if she's getting broken or what but 195 08 194 70 you
can see basically identical numbers till we get to the very top end now let's put
the stock air box back on and see is this carbon Smith air box really adding
horsepower on the dyno stock air box going back in we're installing the
velocity stack so as you can see bone stock air box carbon Smith dimpled
velocity stacks sprint f185 air filter the only thing different is the box
itself ever buttoned up here in a second
so kind of what I figured okay the air box seems to be worth just a tiny tiny
bit we went from 195 08 to 194 9 was our best so all in all like I said the
air box it's getting a lot of air from these fans but nowhere near 180 mile an
hour winds okay guys we're gonna take this thing out do some street testing
and some track testing soon to try to get some more results with the air box
but overall I'm about to spend my time and put this carbon fiber air box back
on we're gonna drain the gas completely bone dry and then we're gonna see what
it weighs to see what our final step for this round two of our modification
process on this GSXR 1000 is and then we're already getting stuff lined up for
round three for the next video guys let me get this thing drained out and on the
scales here in just a second and the results are in the GSXR is on the scales
it still has a tiny bit of gas in it it still runs and I ain't gonna lie I just
didn't feel like draining all the gas out so we're at 395 pounds there's no
way it has more than two pounds worth of gas in it if that so let's call it 394
okay so anyways 394 pounds this bike still has both radiator fans oil cooler
full-size radiator stock tires all the brakes everything the motorcycle came
with from the factory is pretty much still on there but we got some
lightweight parts we got the carbon fiber air box we got the carbon velocity
stacks we got the titanium brox exhaust we got the fender eliminator we got the
520 chain conversion we got the 520 chain the sprockets we still have the
gas cap we're gonna do some things next week when we go to modify this thing
again we're gonna be getting rid of one of the front brake rotors and the ABS
we're gonna delete the ABS on this thing we're gonna do an aftermarket gas cap
we're gonna do some small things this is gonna get us down in the 380s guys once
we get down in the 380s now we're getting fast okay and then once we do
that then we're gonna start making it a little more race prepped and what I mean
by race prepped is we're gonna start getting rid of some things that in my
opinion you don't necessarily need for a race bike back brakes being one of them
so we're gonna do all that stuff coming soon stay with us I hope you guys are
enjoying this build series as we go along I'm doing it slowly I'm doing it
step by step to show you what each little thing does for these bikes hope
you're enjoying it subscribe to the channel we're on our way to 300,000 now
guys we hit 250 last week we appreciate all the love and support thanks for
watching guys we'll see you next time
