Oh yeah that's sick
yeah oh yeah yeah
I don't think it's gonna happen today
What's up everybody? Welcome back to my channel. So today's video is gonna be a little bit of a
because I'm gonna be heading to the Powell River for the first time. I'm gonna be driving from
Squamish to Vancouver, catch the first ferry to the Sunshine Coast where I'm gonna be riding for
a few days. Then I'll be driving some more and catch a second ferry, make it to the Powell River
where I'm gonna be meeting Johanna and Andrew, two local riders and trail builders and they're
gonna show me some of their steep and jumpy trails. It's gonna be sick. I'm gonna be using
my Propane Spin Drift. I think that's gonna be the right choice for there.
I think this video is gonna be sick. Let's get into it.
Ozzy, come here. Okay so what's the plan today? Today we're gonna ride a track that I've been
working on with my good friend Brian Woosalem for the last three years. A couple weeks ago we just
got it running. It's packed with features, some steep stuff, some jumps and a nice big bridge.
Okay, let's do it. Check it out. Whoa, is this what we're gonna ride? Yeah, it sure is.
We just finished it like two weeks ago. That looks unreal. We haven't hit it yet,
so maybe today's the day. Okay. First we gotta ride the top part though.
Oh, sounds good. More steep, more jumps. I'm excited.
Joanna at the very start of the trail. Nice. Sick. And you said she's been biking for four years?
Yeah. This is like proper double black diamond feature. Okay buddy. Get it. Done. Andrew's trail.
Nice. Oh, sick. Oh, that's epic dude. That steep part going into the jumps. Wow.
How many hours was the entire trail?
Holy crap. Joanna coming onto the next section of trail.
Nice. Sick. How about you Ozzy? Ozzy, why'd you stop? Let's do it.
Yo, that's sick. Yeah. I don't think I'm gonna do this. Nice. Dude, that was epic.
That upper part, I could have done that, but yeah, better to have a look first.
Have you done this one yet? No, I've ridden up to it, but I haven't jumped it. I just,
I don't know what it's going to feel like. I don't have the experience yet,
so it's not a very big jump. I know I can do it, but it's just a little bit lippy.
Yeah. It's a bit kicky. Yeah. I think you have to be like really proactive on the bike. You don't
want to get the bike to kick you forward. Right. That's what I'm worried about. You want to like
press onto the takeoff and help the bike to do the movement. Press through your heels. Yeah.
It's so small, but it just, it looks awkward.
I was more worried about the running than the actual jump. Okay. Onto the bridge.
So fun. That's epic. It rides really well. It's a little bit kicky,
so you got to be mindful of that and really be proactive on your bike.
Remy's going to coach me through a jump. Well, the problem with the wooden feature you've been
looking at is that it's quite kicky. Yeah. Obviously I've never seen you like ride in
Andrew has and things that you got the skills, but this is like a good warmer because it's like
a little bit kicky. Yeah. Low consequences. You don't really have to reach for a landing. No,
exactly. The other jump is smaller. So this one would be a good way to like push onto the takeoff
and be proactive and see how you feel on the bike before doing the other one. Sounds good.
So Johanna is going to slowly roll down that landing and release the brakes around here,
do a little pop of that takeoff. She's not going to try to make it to the landing.
She's going to land a bit closer, but just to have really a good feel of the takeoff.
And hopefully after that, she'll clear the jump. Nice. Yeah. She like push a little bit on the
bike and like nice control. What do you think? Yeah. Yeah. She was really active on a bike.
That's what you should be doing. Yeah. How did that feel? It felt fine. I'm just not confident
on jumps. It's something I'm really trying to work on. It's just hard with the terrain here.
So this is actually, yeah, like you have to break getting in and then you have to break when you
land. But getting a little bit of coaching from you was actually really helpful and
gives me a little bit more confidence to try the jump on the bridge. So
I think I want to give it a try. Okay. Let's have a look.
Let me introduce you to the sponsor of this video, Transparent Labs. So Transparent Labs
is a company that makes supplements. And as a professional mountain biker, I spend long days
out in the forest, riding, filming, and sometimes it can be challenging to get the right instruments
for my body. And Transparent Labs basically makes it easier. This is, for example, the grass-fed
whey protein that I've been using every morning in my smoothie. I just put a scoop. This is a
milk chocolate. I usually do banana, almond milk, dates, cacao powder, and peanut butter. And to me,
it really tastes amazing. It's easy to drink. A few other things. This is a prebiotic powder that
I have every day before my coffee. I've got the peach mango flavor, which really tastes really,
really good. And this is one of their electrolyte formula, just a little powder that you mix with
your water and that you drink directly when you are out there biking, skiing, running,
whatever you enjoy to do. And yeah, it's easy to use. I've been really enjoying
using all their products, really. They've got also some vitamins, magnesium, and some more
specific stuff if you are really into the gym and you want some creatine, some pre-workout.
So they've got really everything. You can read all the ingredients on the back of the product.
And everything has been tested. They use a third-party company to make sure that everything
is as efficient as possible. And if you want to check out the product, simply use the link
down below and use the code REMY. That will get you 10% at checkout. Now, let's go back to our
video. Okay. Onto the wooden bridge. Onto the wooden bridge. Actually, it smells really good.
I feel like it smells like sauna. Yeah. The kick is actually really nice. Yeah. It's not bad. Yeah.
If you go slow, you just push into it. Yeah. And I feel like that tells you to land like really
smoothly too. Yeah, for sure. So I feel pretty comfortable on the bridge itself. It's the ending
that I'm a little nervous about. Yeah. I'm actually more worried about the bridge myself than
on the jump. If it was a straight jump off, I wouldn't even think twice about it, but it is
very lippy. And I'm just worried about getting bucked and then going OTB. Yeah. It is a bit
kicky. I haven't ridden it yet. I'm going to follow Andrew on it, but if you stay active on
your bike, so you basically want to start pushing down on the compression and you don't want the
bike to dictate your movements. You want to tell the bike how you want it to jump. Yeah. And
so start compressing like where you're standing. Yeah. Basically right there.
You start getting low and also you don't want to stress the speed. You don't have much distance
to do, so I feel like you can go pretty slow. Yeah. You're better at going slow and popping,
especially on your first try. Right. Than going fast and then panicking because you realize you
go too fast. Right. And then, you know, trying to suck up the impact is most likely how you go OTB.
Right. Okay. I want to do it so badly. So many hours spent working on this. I have to hit it.
Well, you don't have to, but. I have to. If you feel confident, if you feel like you got it.
I mean, it's pretty low consequence, I feel like. So.
Like you're riding well and like your body position is like really dialed on the bike.
So the only thing is that once you decide to commit. Yeah. You actually commit. Yeah. And
you anticipate how the bike is going to react. And regardless, if you go a bit slow, a bit fast,
you kind of stick to it. Yeah.
I think it's also the anxiety of the bridge before the feature. Like you're really high up.
This is what my progression journey has been like. A lot of moments like this.
You've been biking for so little, like not many people would even consider doing that.
I don't think it's going to happen today. It's okay. Smart decision. Next time. Yeah.
If it doesn't feel right. Next time I'll tell you when I promise. Sounds good.
Yeah. I want to do it. I got it. Okay. Yeah.
Nice one. It was so chill. I overthought it. Yeah. Not only you did it, but you also did it.
Perfect. Oh, thank you. Yay. I'm so happy. I feel like now you've done it. You've done it well.
Like you should do it again and again. Yes. A couple of times just so you build that muscle
memory. Absolutely. And next time you come back there, it's, you know, you know that
you've done it like multiple times and you'll get extra confidence. That's usually how we do
progression is like, I'll hit something and I'm like, oh, okay. I got it out of the way
and then dial it in and get the technique down. Yeah. Awesome. Yay.
Yes. Yeah. That was great. Like you really proactive on the bike and like really push
into it, jump it and you land like both wheels together, then regain control. So
that's how you should do it. Yay. Thank you. Thanks for being patient.
Okay. Following Johanna and Andrew. Yeah. Nice.
Oh, it's tight here. Sick. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. So landing is a bit sniper. I like that.
Yeah. And then you go into a transfer. That's pretty tight. And then another little one.
And then there's a couple more after too. Awesome. Yeah. Sorry. Yeah. Nice.
I just wanted, I was sick. I haven't got yet. Let's step down. Yeah. Yeah. It's a bit of a
reach. Well, especially right now it's quite slippery. So that is good. But all those little
routes, you got to be careful. Awesome job though. It's like, it's riding really well.
It's really fun. Yeah. It all like it's taken a lot of work, but it all connects together so well.
And I like it like it because it's so steep. You still have to break,
but that makes it interesting. You know, it's not like no brain. It's yeah. You actually have
to read the terrain. Look ahead. And yeah, it's a makes for an interesting ride. Yeah, for sure.
Nice. That was so fun. Hey Aussie. Hey buddy. He's like, why didn't you stop so much?
fast. Yeah. Like that triple was sick. Yeah. It's pretty good. Nice. Oh, okay. I think I've
seen videos of that. Okay. Second run through this time we'll do the complete line. Nice.
Yeah. Get it. Oh, that was sick.
Dude, that was epic. And this looks really cool. Yeah. This is where you should follow your Hannah
cause she hits this feature. Sick. Onto the drop. Nice. Yeah. It's funny, but like drops like this,
the faster you go, the least of an impact there is. So I felt like I went pretty fast and just
kind of pushed on and it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be.
Yeah. If you go slow and come off, it's like, it's pretty harsh.
Yeah. So Andrew's going to lead and Johanna second, me third and Aussie third. Oh, sorry.
Sick. That was awesome. Nice one. That was awesome. Unreal. I kind of got mixed between
airline and beeline because actually when we started, so first few jumps you did were actually
like pretty committed and they're bigger than I expected. So I was like, Oh wait, this is an airline.
And then I saw you, I saw where the airline was and I was just like a bit too late on the thinking.
Yeah. It's tough. Cause like the stump is there in the way and then
yeah. And obviously like, yeah, I just wasn't sure exactly where you're going to land,
where you're going to take off. So just like I played it pretty safe. This was absolutely
unreal. Like definitely would be back. So thanks a lot for trail work and for showing me around
because I had an absolute blast. Thanks everybody for watching that video. I hope you enjoyed it.
Shredding Powell river with the trail builders was the absolute best. When you ride with the people
who actually had the vision and build the trail, it's really the sickest feeling. So big shout out
and Andrew for all their work as well as riding with me today. If you enjoyed the video,
please subscribe. Leave me a like and a comment that really help out. And if you want to save
some money, make sure you check out the description. There's plenty of codes. And also there
is a link to Jensen USA. When you use that link to purchase some of the best products out there
that really support the channel. So thanks so much for that. For next week's video, I'm going to be
back on my spin drift. We're going to be shredding in Squamish. I have a little bit of a crazy idea.
Not sure if it's going to work yet, but it should be epic. So make sure you stay tuned to the channel.
See you then.
