Fast corner, pump, gap.
Oh yeah, so fun.
What do we got here?
Yeah I did it.
Grizzly bear uses this trail, wow.
My helmet, hold it up.
And this is mountain biking for me.
What's up everybody and welcome back to the channel.
For today's video, I'm gonna be riding with my buddy Alex Chapelier here in Nelson, BC.
This place is truly incredible.
It is a freeride paradise, a world class destination for mountain biking and skiing.
I'm gonna be riding my Propane Spin Drift.
It's quite the perfect bike for here.
It's steep, it's loose, but it's also loamy.
There is some slab, some jumps.
We've been loving it.
In this episode, we're gonna be showcasing all the best trails we've been riding.
And also, we've really enjoyed the food, the coffee, the views.
This town basically has got it all and I'm tempted to move out here.
This video is brought to you by Mountain Biking BC as well as Nelson Kootenay Lake Tourism.
Let's ride.
Here we are, the North Shore of Nelson, BC with Lake Kootenay at the bottom.
This is Morning Sickness.
Let's do it.
So Alex and I just did one lap to check this out.
Nice.
Oh, it's loose.
Cool little sideline here.
Man, this track is epic.
Definitely loose, but loose is fun sometimes.
Yeah.
It's pretty difficult to remember all the lines.
So we do our best, but this is awesome.
Colors are epic.
Still a bit of smoke in the air, but it's definitely getting better.
So that's all we can wish for.
Yeah, buddy.
Little nose manual down this.
Oh, hell yeah.
Sick little wall right here.
This is so much fun, dude.
I mean, so many people told us about Nelson.
And so I'm so stoked to finally get the opportunity to come here.
Man, that was fun.
So many different lines as well.
That track is epic.
Yeah, some of the slabs are steep.
But you got so many ways to ride them.
This is so cool.
Yeah, we're crossing everywhere.
Like you could be doing that lap 10 times, 100 times.
And just be so creative every time.
Turn it into a completely different ride every time.
So sick.
So loose, dude.
It was so loose.
Yeah.
Let's go, boy.
Part number two.
Whoa, that's loose.
Yeah, buddy.
Yeah.
If you know that trail, you can be flying down it.
And I'm on my spin drift right now.
But I've also got my propane rage.
So I'll probably do a few laps after on my downhill bike.
Which I'm pretty excited about.
Outside line for me.
Oh, wow.
Pretty tricky to see with the dust.
Yeah.
Oh, yeah, dude.
Sick.
Yeah.
That's so epic.
Hell yeah.
Yeah?
Dude, incredible.
Nice.
Awesome.
Oh, that was so sick.
Oh, yeah, dude.
Dude.
Can't wait to check out another lap now.
Next, Shittaker.
Another crown favorite.
Oh, yeah.
Look at that dust.
Yo.
Haha, so fun.
Yeah, dude.
Okay.
Whoa, what was that?
As long as it's not a grizzly bear.
Okay, coming next.
Little drop.
Yo.
Okay, I think we are done for the jump.
We are done.
One lap warm up.
Now it's gonna get a bit more technical.
Whoa.
Can't really see where I put my wheels.
Man, this is epic.
Okay, little wall ride coming up, I think.
That was cool, huh?
That was sick.
That was a lot of fun.
Now we're done with the jumps.
I think it was just like a bunch of cool slabs.
So similar to the other trail we just did.
Part number two of Shittaker.
Nice little bunny up here.
Okay, a bunch of pretty tech slab here.
Oh, wow.
Look at that dust.
Nice inside line for me.
Oh, yeah.
Put that little gap, that was cool.
Man, I love riding trails without really knowing what's coming up.
We did one lap, but it's just not enough to remember everything.
So my strategy is to remember whatever was dangerous.
Because you can't focus on everything.
And so I remember on the most snow, and then I just adapt.
Up double inside, just like Sam Hill.
Nice.
Yeah.
This one was just as fun as the first one.
Oh, my God.
That was sick.
Let's go, boy.
Nooner.
Another one on the North Shore of Nelson BC.
Little bit of style here.
So another trail completely different from the other one.
Once again, we only did one lap.
Yo, buddy.
That was actually quite smooth.
Nice.
Look at this corner.
Pretty loose right now, but still so fun.
Spin drift is really quite the bike for you.
Wow.
That was cool.
Up inside here.
Yeah, three down.
We can't really move this one.
That was fun, eh?
I had fun.
I had a lot of fun.
That rock drop at the start, we were looking at it earlier, thinking it was going to be quite the impact.
But on stuff like that, those drop to flat, if you got a lot of speed, that means you carry good momentum.
And so the impact, instead of falling down, you kind of like...
Forward.
Yeah, you kind of move forward at the impact, and that makes it smoother.
That was sick.
That was super sick.
Yeah, stock we rode that trail too.
But this is a ton of fun.
I hope the viewers can tell, but I'm enjoying this a lot.
Okay.
Okay, we're back to the same track we rode earlier.
Shitaker.
Oh yeah, buddy.
And Shitaker.
I guess it's from like Shitalker and Shitake, which is a mushroom, and I like neither of the two, but I love the trail.
Oh, that was a bad line here.
I'm going to take a different line here.
I know it's slower, but it's going to be a lot of fun too.
And a bit of style.
Yeah, dude.
Another one.
That was sick.
Thank you so much.
I think it's going to be time to ride my propane reg now.
Okay.
Fast corner, pump, gap.
Wow, I was going too fast.
And even though I braked up actually.
And those Maxi Cyroller 3, they roll fast.
Okay, same speed, but a little bit straighter.
And more style.
Too fast again.
Another attempt.
Come on, Remy.
Smooth.
Okay.
That was smooth.
Now I need to work on the speed.
Alex is going to film this one, so you guys can have a better idea of how this looks from the side.
Okay, smooth, stylish and precise.
I got this.
Nice.
I don't like when it takes me this long, but I'm pretty stoked on that.
I mean, that bike works really well.
Super, super playful.
I've got a size medium right now on my reg with an extended cup.
But I actually ordered a size large just to get more stability.
But, I mean, this is so much fun.
So yesterday, Alex and I did a lab on Nutsac.
Just wanted to check it out.
And this is actually unreal.
It's got everything I enjoy about a bike trail.
It's steep, it's loose, it's gnarly, but it's also fun.
Flowy, there's some features.
It's going to be epic.
Let's go.
Very dusty behind Alex, so I'm going to do my best to keep up.
Oh yeah, inside line.
Yeah, buddy.
Oh, I can't see much behind.
Hanging on.
Oh, hell yeah.
Definitely going to be careful on the slabs here.
Oh, nice slab.
Oh yeah? Like Squamish?
Yeah.
Hell yeah.
You could actually slow down really well by using that compression.
That's what I try to teach in my videos.
What do we got here?
That's epic.
Yeah, dude.
That was sick.
Hell yeah, that was unreal.
So, yesterday you did that.
But me, I did this.
And I think you might want to do that drop again.
For sure.
Dude, the woodwork is insane here.
One run in to check my line and my speed.
And I really don't want much speed.
Okay.
Drop.
Okay, let's go.
It's so smooth.
You have to go awkwardly slow, but it's actually really smooth, really well built.
Well done.
So, Alex on to the slab and then the wooden roll.
Nice.
Sick.
And me, on to the drop.
That was sick.
So fun.
And now on to some faster downhill.
Yeah, buddy.
Nice.
Alex is so precise with his wheel.
It's really cool to watch.
So, obviously we don't really know super well the track, so don't judge our lines.
Yeah, dude.
Little gap here.
Oh, it's tight here.
Nice.
I'm having so much fun.
Like, this is probably one of the best sections of the trail we've ridden yesterday.
It's going to get faster.
You're going to see that.
Nice.
That was epic.
How was the drop?
Scary, because I was looking at you.
And I started lower than I normally started, so I didn't have to be as much on the brakes.
I had to let roll and trust that muscle memory, but it went smooth.
Nice.
That's pretty cool to be able to join the trail back together like this.
Yeah, and something I found on Nelson, like some of the other trails we've ridden,
so many line choices.
You can ride the same trail in so many different ways.
Basically, you can't get bored.
So sick, too.
Yeah.
Just go wherever you see you're going.
Yeah.
Let's go.
Let's do it.
Nelson, baby.
Open the line here.
Yeah, dude.
Oh, this is so sick.
Yeah, dude.
Oh, hell yeah.
Yeah.
That's unreal.
I'm feeling good on my bike.
Feeling really good.
Just having a ton of fun.
Oh, hell yeah, dude.
That was gnarly.
Oh, yeah.
That's my insertion chain guide.
Little product placement.
Yeah.
See that gap you did above the rocks?
I was so blind.
I've done the same.
And I was like...
Yeah, you don't want to chase that one.
No, no, no.
You don't have to go fast, but if you hesitate, you need to carry speed.
Yeah, because we rode it once, but I can't remember anything.
No, everything looks so similar to me.
That's why I like having that taller position and you do it really well.
You stand really tall on your bike so you can look ahead and pick up the best line.
Yeah.
Really something super important.
And you can rest your legs, rest your arms.
Yeah.
Trying to figure a good position.
Yeah, you drop the heel.
You can stretch your calf, your hamstring.
You keep your back in a strong position, in that like founder position.
Those are good tips.
And having a bike that's well set up helps you so you're not like fighting against...
Oh, of course.
Yeah.
Having your suspension dialed.
You know what I mean?
It's like you can relax and let the bike roll instead of fighting it.
Yeah.
Big difference.
Hell yeah.
What do we got?
A couple of slabs.
I know you're from Vancouver, but Skamish isn't too far, eh?
Hell yeah.
Yeah.
Some really good style from Alex.
That bridge is very nice.
I don't know if it serves too much of a purpose.
Maybe in the winter it gets flooded or it's just very hard to carry speed.
Yeah.
Oh yeah.
Ah, whatever.
We know how to jump that.
Yeah.
Up.
Easy.
Wow.
That bush is tricky because...
I use the clip pedals to move the rear of the bike.
I feel like I'm on Alice Lake in Skamish.
Yeah, look at that.
Yeah, I did.
Oh, terrible line I took.
Wow, that was bad.
Nice.
Thank you, Alex.
Clean the rocks for me.
No, definitely not here.
I thought there was maybe a line on the left.
So yesterday, I saw the trail and I was like, oh, maybe that's a rock roll and that's where I almost...
No way.
Yeah.
You guys don't want to go there.
Oh, it's broken.
Oh.
Just very bent.
I know someone that's sponsored by E13.
Oh yeah?
Yeah.
I'm sure he can help you out.
Get me the one with the bash guard?
Yeah, maybe.
And we are back at the road.
That video is not over.
We got some incredible riding coming up.
That was sick.
Let's go to the lake?
Let's go to the lake, yeah.
Yeah, boys.
Thanks a lot, Peter.
Okay, see you later.
Grizzly bear uses this trail.
Wow.
I've got my bear spray on, but hopefully I don't use it.
Neither Alex.
Hope it's not going to fall down.
Yeah.
And explode in our face.
Oh, actually, dude, your safety is off.
It came off.
It was on before.
Okay, so be very careful when you move it.
How did that come off?
You think my helmet pulled it up?
I'll pull it, and I'll turn it around.
Powerslave, let's do it.
This is grizzly bear territory, so hopefully we don't see any.
Oh, man, that track is epic.
I did one lap yesterday, but Alex hasn't ridden it yet.
And it's truly unreal.
Yeah, buddy.
So many cool lines here.
It's awesome.
Oh, yeah.
Trying to ride some different lines just to be creative.
And this is mountain biking for me.
Absolutely love this.
Yeah, buddy.
Oh, yeah.
Some steeps here.
It's getting a bit loose.
I love it, though.
Yeah, buddy.
That was sick.
I was going to change my line on Alex,
but it turned out we ended up getting the same line.
Dude.
Wow, that's loose.
Did I lie to you?
That's cool, dude. That's really cool.
That's awesome.
That's very steep and very loose.
Oh, my God.
Too much front brake for me.
Yeah, I did.
I'm so used to brake super hard with my front brake that I got a bit loose.
Yeah, buddy.
That was a cool double.
Look at the track. It's so wide. I love it.
Feels like a World Cup track.
You can go into so many different lines.
Makes it so interesting.
Okay.
Yeah, dude.
So I think this track is now called Bear's Den.
Which you can guess why.
Yeah.
Okay.
This track flows super well.
Alex has never ridden it.
And it can really flow everywhere.
Yeah, dude.
Nice.
Sick, dude.
That was sick.
That's so much fun.
Okay, back on track.
Nice.
You can really use that track like a pump track.
Yeah, dude.
Bike is working so well on that stuff.
Yeah.
Okay, little roll.
I was going a bit slow.
Yes.
So this track, if I remember well, is a bit less loamy.
But just less fun.
Especially behind Alex.
Yeah, buddy.
Yeah.
Smooth operator.
Wow.
You good?
And props to the trail builders here.
Because they do a really fantastic job.
Everything is well built.
From the downhill to the uphill.
Yeah, buddy.
Yeah.
Oh, yeah.
And those corners are sick.
It's pretty loose, but there's still a really good grip.
You can let the bike work.
Yeehaw!
Alex is on fire today.
He's riding really well.
It's really tricky to brake enough before the corner and then commit to let go.
But that's how you carry good speed out.
That was sick.
Flying good.
Okay, we're going to make our way to Turnstile.
Turnstile is a machine built trail.
And it's absolutely unreal.
I was following Mike.
If you haven't checked out the video on my road channel,
Mike is actually blind from one eye.
And he was riding absolutely unreal.
Nice.
And I love mountain biking.
You know, it's a job.
And I do that full time.
And stuff like this really makes me appreciate what I do.
And I'm forever grateful.
Wow.
Did you throw a rock?
That was pretty cool.
I think I rode pretty hard.
Right on the side of the ridge.
Yeah.
We are now going to do a track called Turnstile.
It's a flowy jump track.
The jumps are big enough that I think it's better if I go first
because Alex hasn't ridden the trail.
So he's going to be able to follow me.
And hopefully I give him the right amount of speed.
Let's go, boy.
Here we go.
So much fun.
And this track is epic.
So well built.
It's incredible.
I was a little bit short on this guy.
This one was pretty blind for me.
Nice.
Another fun one.
And look at this light.
It's just incredible.
Hashtag that light, bro.
Oh, yeah.
Nice.
Those jumps are so sick.
Look at this.
The association has made some incredible stuff here.
This is like world-class trail building.
This is so sick.
Oh, that light.
Holy crap.
This is so sick.
There was actually a jumping clinic.
This is a nice track to learn how to jump.
Oh, yeah.
The signage for the jump is really well built.
I can't believe it.
I want to see Alex's face when he arrives.
Those are some nice berms.
Thanks, everybody, for watching that video.
I hope you enjoyed it.
Alex and I both absolutely loved Nelson.
It was truly incredible.
And we look forward to going back.
But right now, we are in Fernie.
Next episode is going to be another epic location.
Make sure you like the video, comment, and subscribe to the channel.
See you next week.
