A beautiful day, a gorgeous bride, and one truly lucky fellow.
We welcome on behalf of John and Caroline, all of you here to this wonderful celebration.
We come together today to witness their love.
Maybe I'll be paving the runway, because I know that one day you're gonna fly.
You know, all new parents with their newborn, you look at your child and you say,
I wonder what the future holds. I wonder what great things will happen in Caroline's future.
I did think about this day. I thought about the milestones,
and you know, someday Caroline's gonna get married. And no matter how hard I thought,
I couldn't imagine what a beautiful person Caroline should become, and what a beautiful day
this is. John and I met at Culver, where I quickly became aware of the Flanagans.
You guys have done so much for us, and if anyone knows the Flanagan family,
what they had to do for us is unspeakable. And what we did to them is unspeakable as well.
Paving the runway, because I know that one day you're gonna fly.
I couldn't be prouder of the person that you've become. We've been friends since we were teenagers,
and the loyalty and dedication that you have towards your friends and family is something
I've always admired, and one of the reasons I know that you're going to be a wonderful husband.
Caroline is the type of friend that everyone always wishes to have. Someone who's kind,
caring, and always there for you, even when you're living thousands of miles apart.
Little did we know when she went to Culver, she would meet you,
and after spending time together, I can certainly see how perfect you are together.
Paving the runway, because I know that one day you're gonna fly.
I know that one day you're gonna fly.
I've been up since 3 30 this morning. Well, that's okay, because I can practice my speech,
and I had the perfect toast prepared. I had thanked all the appropriate people. I had the perfect
balance of emotion and humor. I had practiced it enough that I wouldn't cry. And I told Sarah I
might cry, and she said, you know, that's okay, because they'll realize you're human.
Every step, a promise kept. Like the sun in the morning, you're the steadiest light.
Oh, my love for always.
We come here this night to celebrate the marriage of John Patrick Flanagan and Caroline Ciccola,
a commitment that is made in love, kept in faith, lived in hope.
Now, this started a long time ago, back at Culver Academy,
well, almost a decade and a half ago. On September the 23rd of last year,
in Harbor Springs, we decided that this would be made permanent.
We'll never forget about the time that John told me he was going to propose to Caroline.
He was so sweet and thoughtful and included everyone and everything that's important to
Caroline. Harbor Springs in the summer, both of their families, and of course, Harry, the golden
wholeheartedly. Yes. Are you prepared as you follow the path of marriage, to love and honor
each other for as long as you both shall live? Yes. And are you prepared to accept children
lovingly from God and to bring them up according to the law of Christ and of his church? Yes.
Since that is your intention, I ask you to join your hands and now you declare your
consent before God and his people. I, John, take you, Caroline, to be my wife. I, Caroline, take
you, John, to be my husband. I promise to be faithful to you. In good times and in bad. In
sickness and in health. To love you. And to honor you. All the days of my life. May the Lord in his kindness
strengthen the consent you have declared before God and his people. As of this moment, you are
married in the city of Chicago, the county of Cook, the state of Illinois, honored in all 50 states,
the provinces of Canada and Mexico, and throughout the free world. But it will not be official until
Remember always that tears refresh the soul and that laughter will teach you to dance.
Finally, remember always that you are loved and supported by all of us and that you always will be.
I picked up a new title today. That title is John's father-in-law. Now that you're part of our family,
you don't need to call me Mr. Chicola anymore. I really want you to feel free to call me sir.
During weddings, there's usually some talk that I'm not losing a daughter but gaining a son-in-law.
Well, my deepest sympathies to the Chicolas. I spent an unhealthy amount of time with this kid
and I know who's getting the better end of the deal tonight. What a beautiful bride,
personal, sweet, and kind, and smart. She's the whole package. And Johnny is so lucky.
And then John is so handsome, intelligent, physically fit. John, I can't read the rest
of your writing.
I want to thank everyone so much for being here. Your presence means the world to us.
I'm so excited and I cannot wait to grow old with you. I've had this plan since high school
and it's finally happening and that's the truth.
And I would look at that picture and no matter what I was going to do that day,
this picture put everything in perspective. It really taught me what's important in life.
But it wouldn't be complete if I didn't give this picture to John.
John, thank you for bringing the beauty of joy to our daughter.
It's the greatest gift a parent can have when their child is happy.
Both of you are amazing people individually, but together you're unstoppable.
