Australian Quartet Strike Gold! 🇦🇺| Men's Team Pursuit | #Paris2024 Highlights

The gold medal race in Paris for the men's team pursuit at the Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines velodrome. And it is all set. Great Britain against Australia. For Great Britain, Ethan Hayter, Dan Bigham, Charlie Townfield and Ethan Vernon. For Australia, Oliver Bleden, Sam Wilsford, Connor Lee and Kevin O'Brien. Great Britain trailing after the first few, first lap. Now Australia are trailing. It will be a change every lap. It will be so close between these two teams. Great Britain in the lead. Great Britain have a great record in this competition. Australia set the world record in qualifying. They are in blistering form and they go just ahead. It's going to be that sort of race that you feel nip and tuck all the way through. Great Britain back in the lead. So every lap we're seeing a change of lead. There's nothing between these two teams. They're getting roared along, the Australians and Great Britain. Lee on front for Australia. Great Britain lead the last lap. Australia leading in this lap. Nothing between them. One tenth separating them at the moment. Australia slightly with the advantage. Sam Wilsford on the front now for Australia. What a race we've got on our hands. A thousand metres to go. Tim Decker is beside himself with anxiety here, as are the Australian fans as they drive on. Great Britain fighting, fighting all they're worth. Great Britain now within one tenth of Australia. Huge turn from Wilsford for Australia. Bledden is second wheel on the front for Great Britain as Ethan Hayter. They're nipping back at that time all the while are Great Britain. They're fighting hard now. This is when they can take it to the gold medal. Great Britain have lost a rider. It's all falling apart for Great Britain. It is Ethan Hayter and Australia are going to take the gold medal in 2024. Gold for Australia 20 years after their last water ride by the Australians. It all fell apart on the final lap for Great Britain. Ethan Hayter and Great Britain will take the silver. A moment of disaster for Great Britain. The triumph for Australia's Oliver Bledden, Sam Wilsford, Connor Lee and Kelli O'Brien. A moment of sheer joy and delight for this quartet. They were the fastest team throughout all the rounds all the way to the final to win the gold medal. You can see the Australians have adopted that wide fork and their double rear seat stay as well. Proving to be the fastest bikes in the world at the moment. What a performance. Wow, yeah, absolutely amazing final here. Well, there's a part of the huge, huge team involved in working towards this gold medal. First gold medal in the discipline since Athens in 2004. Four very proud Australians. The last part of that was 1984. Now 2024 back on the track.
