Lisa dives into Pat Sloan's new book Holiday Celebrations (Available May 3rd 2021); showing off all of Pat's beautiful holiday projects.
Hey everyone, it's Lisa from Primitive Gatherings and today I get to share with you Pat Sloan's
newest book. Y'all know Pat Sloan. She's a quilt designer, a teacher, a YouTuber,
and fabric designer. And maybe you remember her from American Patchwork and Quilting Radio.
So, I am super excited to share Holiday Celebrations, which has 17 projects for
six seasonal decorating. Now she has mostly three different decorations or projects
for the six holidays. Her holidays are Valentine's Day, Easter, 4th of July, Halloween, Thanksgiving,
and Christmas. So, she breaks it down into more than four seasons. So, let's get started. She has
a big quilt and this one is called, hear the name here, Be Mine Always. And it is 65 by 77.
So, it's a nice big quilt with pinks and reds. So, you can use up all your scraps.
So, there's not a lot of one fabric, maybe the background or you could make that scrappy as well.
But super nice heart quilt. Pretty easy too. I would say that jelly rolls would also work for
this quilt. Looks like two inch finished squares there. Then she has this cute little wall hanging
called, Hello Love. How cute is that? All right, four blocks. This will make a nice table runner,
table topper, X's and O's. And the photography in the book, again, is from Martin Gayle. So,
they have exceptional photography in every one of their books. Now back up here, I got to go back.
I saw that the pillows here, she just calls these two Valentine pillow. So, she's using up some
excess scraps here. And I love this wavy line quilting that is super simple and very effective
in these pillows. I love pillows. So, Pat says that she got her love of decorating from her
dad's mother. And her mother, her grandmother, would always decorate for every season. So,
that's where she says she got her love from decorating for the seasons. And I too,
very much love decorating for every season. So, I got to go in order of the book here.
Otherwise, I'll miss something. All right, Chubby Carrots is right here. Now, this is a table runner.
I'll stand up so you can see the whole thing. And yes, it looks like these are
three inches. Some of them, let's see, three inches, two and a half. Yeah, all different kinds.
But simple piecing for a very fun carrot table runner. And then, we have Bunny Hop Pillow.
And this looks like it is machine done, buttonhole or blanket stitch. And this also,
I know a lot of my people are wool apple carers, but this could be a fuzzy wool bunny here too.
There's nothing wrong with combining cotton and flannel or cotton and wool. You can do any of
that. There are no rules. So, super cute pillow there. And then, we have Easter Basket Coasters
or mug rugs. And it's just like a great basket block here. And don't think that you can't do
her little heart design here too as coasters and just expand or the Xs and the Os to make mug rugs
also. Again, just simple quilting. Put that walking foot on your machine and just simply
go to town. All right. Next one is another big quilt called Liberty Hill. And Liberty Hill is 56
by 72. And Pat says 4th of July is all about bringing out her red, white, and blue. So,
here's a beautiful block. I think it's directional. Some of the fabrics have anchors in,
crabs, lighthouses. Super cute. And then, look at the piece back. So, way to use up all your
big fabric hunks. Shows the quilting nicely. I love using stripes as bindings. This one would
look really good here at Anchor Point. Just saying. All right. Next up, we have Welcome Home.
And this would be beautiful on a door, on a cupboard. Simple, but very nice. And remember,
little things like this make great gifts. Like if you're going to a 4th of July picnic,
this would be a great gift to give to somebody who's throwing the party.
Oh, look at this one. The quilting on this one is fabulous. Sparklers is what this one is called.
Here's the sleeve. She puts sleeves on her quilts like I do. Cool border treatment. These are flying
geese. I love how she doesn't bring them all the way to the end. That's kind of cool.
Very nice. Great wall hanging or couch quilt. All right. So, that is summer and 4th of July.
Now, on to fall. I was born in October, so I'm kind of partial to fall. And Pat says that
decorating for Halloween is her favorite as well. So, first we have Spooky Twist.
So, these are just half square triangles, it looks like. And there's all kinds of Halloween
fabrics in the stores. We all know that. So, this would be super cool to make up from any of the
current fabric lines. Pat's quilts look here not to be so fabric line specific. So, any
of your towers or fat quarters that you collect will work in any of these quilts.
And just because she maybe just used three fabrics doesn't mean you can't use a combination of,
you know, maybe you have six oranges, and you have six blacks, and six creams,
and then you just divvy that up amongst the yardage. But yeah, see how beautiful that is?
The photography. And Martingale always gives you some inspiration in how to decorate with
your quilts. All right. So, I don't have any Halloween candy here, but I think this is Pat's
trick-or-treat begged for holding the candy. So, another idea would be to take your towels.
These are my kitchen towels in here that I just placed in there. And you can set that on your
counter as well as another option for this basket instead of candy. Or I could see little Halloween
quilts in there. Possibilities are endless for these. Somebody's sock drawer. You could make
this in other fabrics. It doesn't have to be just for Halloween. So, I love making little totes like
that. Okay. Now, we have the trick-or-treat bags. So, these are too simple but fun. Use up your
Halloween fabrics, totes to make for your grandchildren, little ghosts. So, if you have little
boys, you don't put the little bow tie on there. I could see some embroidered names on there as well.
Again, super cool. This book has a lot of projects in. At regular price for $25.99,
you will be able to get it on sale as a pre-order on Primitive Gatherings website,
which is PrimitiveGatherings.us. Look for it there. This book comes out May 3rd. So, we have a little
bit of time to order it and to get ready for it for you. And look to see if we put in any other
little special to go with the book. Give Thanks is the name of this table runner. It is 16 by 52.
So, for a nice long farm table. And if you don't have this big of a table, you always know you can
make one or two less. So, maybe you only have three instead of five. But we all know we can
adjust patterns. You don't need me to tell you that. But I think this would run all the way
through Thanksgiving. And it could be out with your Halloween stuff as well. Okay, Hello Autumn
is this leaf inspired table topper. And this one is 15 by 15. And again, you could make some
matching mug rugs with it. Super cute fabric. She's using like a very soft faded black, almost
purpley black here. But again, these are small enough that you can just go in your scrap bag
and use those. All right, on to Christmas. Merry Little Houses. So, I think it's cool that she's
got one book that comes out with three projects for every season. This quilt is 47 by 57.
And look how she's fussy cut different things in the windows. We have reindeer here.
Have a little saying here to Santa. A little mouse in this one. I thought I saw a Santa over here.
Look at this cool Santa. So, you can have a lot of fun fussy cutting people for the houses or
little sayings. And remember, you don't have to make it that big. You can make it any size that
you want. All right, next up. Peppermint Twist. Oh, look at how fun this is. So, some piecing,
pinwheels, triangles. Primitive Gatherings has a lot of triangle papers if you are leery about
piecing triangles, which I think it's kind of funny that people are afraid of them.
Like, if quilts have lots of triangles, a lot of people like to avoid them. But they are super
simple if you use triangle papers. And this, you would need two-inch finish on. And then,
cute little applique on the corners, on the ends. Not corners. And last, some patchwork stockings.
So, she's done two of them with just two-inch squares, two-and-a-half-inch squares.
They are all quilted all the way through, front and back. Oh, she's even tucked that cuff in there
too. So, you can't, it won't come undone. So, it's super secure. That's pretty genius. And the cuff
is on the front, but not on the back. I got to read how she did that. That's pretty cool.
All right. So, again, Holiday Celebrations 17 Quilts from Pat Sloan. Now, you can follow Pat
at patsloan.com. And then, she also has a really cool Facebook group called Quilt Along with Pat
Sloan. And you'll find tons and tons of stuff with Pat. She's been around for a long time,
and she's super fun, and she's just a good soul. So, thank you for joining me today. It was a
blast, and I hope that you want to purchase this book and help support another fellow
quilt designer. Hey, everyone. At the last minute, the girls at the shop decided to put together some
kits for you for Pat Sloan's Holiday Celebrations book. So, we're going to show you the fabrics in
each one of the kits that we have pulled for you. All right. So, Lori, this one comes with two
options. And you can go through them, Lori, or Kaylee can get a close-up of them. This is the
Trick or Treat bag. So, these are the two options that the girls pulled for you for this project.
And you'll see all the prices and any more information on our website.
And that link will be in the description on this video. That'll take you right there. All right.
Next up, show them this one. This one is called Spooky Twist, and it is only a couple fabrics.
And it'll make this beautiful lap quilt or table quilt, 36 by 36. Super cool. All right. Grab that
one. Hello Autumn was kind of like this candle mat that we have here for you. Some beautiful fall
fabrics that I picked out. This one is kind of interesting. They did a spin on the Hello Love
and picked out some sheep fabrics in a different color way. So, just to show you that it doesn't
always have to be Valentine's Day, that you can keep this out all year round. And they picked
some neutral fabrics. That will be really fun. All right. So, then the stocking has two colorways,
one Christmas, and then one kind of winter. So, these are the patchwork stockings.
So, those are the fabrics for those two. Very nice. Oh, sleds. Cool. I don't recognize those fabrics.
I must have. I bought them. All right. And then the last one we have is Give Thanks
Table Runner. Again, with beautiful fall fabrics to make this lovely table runner.
So, again, all these kits that we just showed you are for sale, and there will be limited number. So,
don't think we have unlimited amount of these, but grab them as soon as you can because they
won't last long.
