Several other communities like Awam are
also recognizing veterans. We have 22
News reporter Claire Overton live with
us to share how they did just that.
Claire
>> Aetta, the ceremony in Awam took place
at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery, one
of the state-run cemeteries for those
who served our country. The ceremony
took place specifically at the chapel at
the cemetery, bringing together
veterans, families of veterans, or those
who just want to honor the brave men and
women who served our country. Today,
across the United States, 23 million
citizens qualify as veterans. And here
in the Commonwealth, there are
approximately 400,000 men and women who
qualify.
>> Importantly, with each passing year, our
elder veterans from World War II, Korea,
and Vietnam grow older and their numbers
dwindle.
Let each of us ensure
that they know our gratitude while they
are still with us. Master Sergeant
Stalkler said Veterans Day is more than
just a day off of work or a day off of
school. It's an opportunity to
acknowledge our neighbors who served and
an opportunity that should not be missed
year after year. The ceremony also
played the armed forces medley to honor
each branch as well as taps on the
bugle. working for you. Claire Overton,
