#RED#REDTECH#V-RAPTORXE In this episode of RED TECH, RED welcomes the V-RAPTOR XE into the RED arsenal.
Cleigh Reed breaks down the entire RED arsenal — from the compact KOMODO-X to the powerhouse V-RAPTOR XL — showing how every camera in the lineup delivers industry-leading image quality, global shutter performance, and the flexibility modern filmmakers demand.
Choosing the right camera for your production comes down to four key decisions: Sensor type Form factor – How small, light, or built-out does your setup need to be? Lens choices – Which mount gives you the flexibility you need? Production needs – Lightweight rig, high frame rates, or full-blown studio setup?
Welcome back to Red Tech, I'm Clay.
We here at Red have always been about expanding access to professional level cinematography
tools to as many people as possible.
And we've been pushing that button a lot recently, with the price drops on Komodo X
and Komodo.
And now, we're here to help get the power of Red into more hands and on more sets with
the all new V-Raptor XE.
This is an opportunity to revisit a broad look at the lineup and help you all understand
the insane and unique things that the Red arsenal offers.
It's actually pretty easy to break down your camera choice into a few essential decisions.
Sensor, form factor, lens choices, and your production's needs.
You're going to want to decide what you want to see on the final screen.
Are you looking for a classic super 35mm field of view?
Or are you looking for that large format low light optimized VV image?
What type of body do you want?
Or your form factor?
Do you need an incredibly small camera that's perfect for lightweight applications?
That's where the Komodo line fits in.
Komodo X comes in at 4 inches by 4 inches by 5 inches.
It's aluminum alloy body weighs approximately 2.6 pounds.
For reference, the original Komodo is only slightly smaller.
Something you won't have to worry about is a global shutter sensor.
The entire Red lineup now has you covered.
I can already hear people saying, but there's lens coverage questions, specialty needs,
what about frame rates and VFX?
And you're totally right, let's get into that.
The Komodo lineup is a 6K S35 and with the newer Z mount version you get crazy lens flexibility.
Being able to adapt to almost any lens option out there.
If you're looking to step it up to that large format VV or unlock industry leading low light
performance, then the V-Raptor XE gives you all of that.
If you need beefier boards, slightly higher frame rates, or maybe you're an owner operator
whose shooting conditions are constantly changing.
That's where this new V-Raptor XE shines.
The form factor is still really only a bit larger than the KX.
It's still incredibly versatile.
The body measures at 6 inches by 4.25 inches by 4.25, just over 4 pounds.
You can rig this thing on a gimbal, even set it up on a drone.
You might be wondering what the E in XE stands for.
It represents what's essential for modern filmmakers.
The V-Raptor XE lives in the Raptor ecosystem, boasting an 8K VV Global Shutter sensor with
up to 60 frames at 8K, 6K S35 gives you 80, 4K up to 120, and 2K up to 240.
Maybe not quite at V-Raptor X levels, but these still offer plenty for standard production
frame rate needs.
You also get the same amazing low light performance that the V-Raptor sensor offers.
17 plus stops of dynamic range and similar to the Komodo X, if you choose the Nikon Z
mount, you get the same deep lens flexibility.
And something I'm stoked about is this new XE version is obviously compatible with all
of the V-Raptor accessories.
With standard V-Raptor X, you're getting the same versatile form factor, but enhanced with
the Global Vision suite of features.
Extended highlights mode allows you to reach three plus stops deeper into the brightest
highlights and retain even more color and detail.
Plus you get double the frame rates for when you need that buttery slow-mo.
Insane.
For those working in virtual productions, the Phantom Track Dual Capture streamlines
virtual production environments employing frame multiplexing.
Whether it's ghost frame or frame remapping, we capture distinct R3D clips for each sub
as well as allowing for monitoring of either slice live on set over the SDI.
So now let's talk about you on set warriors.
Whether you're working towards the martini or just trying to go 10-1 before they lock
it up, the V-Raptor XLX is your on set juggernaut.
This is going to have all the industry standards on lock, plus the same sensor and image quality
as the V-Raptor X.
The XL is an all-in-one system that's 8.5 inches by 6.5 inches by 6 and weighs 8 pounds
with a PL mount built in to support high-end productions.
Features a robust IO array, flexible power source compatibility, and RED's first ever
internal electronic ND system.
This big baddy has compatibility with both 26-volt V-Lock or gold mount batteries with
an array of high-performance 12-volt and 24-volt outputs.
And it includes a built-in ambient lock-it module capable of wirelessly syncing timecode
and GEMMA.
RED is dedicated to its users.
Both the Raptor and Komodo platforms have continued to grow in capability from launch.
The market is evolving and filmmakers need more for their craft.
So we're also announcing firmware 2.1 for the V-Raptor and Komodo X.
This is going to bring new and exciting controls to our END system.
Now you can change ND with a smooth and continuous adjustment of the END.
These features and over 60 additional new features have been added to the Raptor platform
since its release.
No other company has shown the dedication and willingness to grow with their users'
needs and I think that's pretty cool.
So there you have it.
A brand new tool in a familiar package and a whole lineup of tailored solutions to get
you from an idea to a work of art.
A quiver that's built to work together seamlessly and to each shine on its own.
But don't take my word for it.
Set up a demo, do a camera test, and most importantly, get out there and create something.
