Hi, all of you awesome scuba divers out there. Welcome to the Scuba Diver Magazine channel,
your favorite place for the latest scuba diving news and gear reviews. Today, we're diving in the
Bahamas with Aggressor Adventures on the Bahamas Aggressor Liveaboard, a magnificent 100-foot yacht
designed with comfort, safety, and stability in mind. This diesel-powered vessel cruises
at a comfortable 12 knots, ensuring a smooth journey. Back on board, you'll find amenities
like 110-volt power outlets and USB ports in all staterooms to keep all of your different devices
charged, and you don't need 100 different adapters. Choose from five deluxe staterooms with double and
single berths, or the spacious quad stateroom with two sets of twin beds, allowing you to unwind and
recharge after a day of underwater exploration. The Bahamas themselves is an archipelago,
a tropical paradise sandwiched between Florida and Cuba. Picture pristine sandy beaches lapped
by turquoise waters, a haven for relaxation and adventures. But beneath the surface lies a
treasure trove waiting to be discovered. The Bahamas boasts the third largest barrier reef
in the world, alongside dramatic deep walls that you can dive along, shipwrecks to explore,
captivating blue holes, and enigmatic tunnels and caverns. This destination is also renowned for
offering some of the most thrilling shark encounters on the planet. So if you're into
your sharks, this is the place to visit. For the optimal dive experience, try to plan your dive
trip between November and May. This timeframe coincides with their dry season, offering calm
seas, exceptional water clarity, and comfortable air temperatures averaging around 24 degrees
Celsius. This is also the prime time to witness Oran's Bayan marine life, such as sharks and rays
gliding effortlessly through the crystal clear water. Water temperatures around this time of
year, they range from about 22 degrees Celsius up to 26, making a three mil, probably up to a five
mil wetsuit ideal for most divers during this period. If you're a bit more susceptible to
feeling the cold, then a five mil is definitely worth it. Three mil, it's just nice to cover
yourself and just take the edge off. Whilst the Bahamas is generally a year-round destination,
do be aware of hurricane season, which runs from June to November. Whilst the seas are generally
calmer around this time of year, the risk of unpredictable storms and rough conditions can
disrupt your travel plans. If you do choose to visit during these months, do be prepared for
potential cancellations and of course, keep a close eye on the weather forecast. Temperatures
during this time are quite hot and humid, averaging around 28 degrees Celsius. Water
temperatures rise accordingly, ranging from 26 to 29 degrees Celsius, so really nice and warm.
During these warmer months, a three mil wetsuit really should suffice for most divers.
Some may just want a rash guard or a shorty for just added protection from the sun and potential
jellyfish encounters. It really depends on your thermal constitution. As far as water movement,
the current in the Bahamas, it varies depending on specific location and time of year as well,
as well as the weather conditions obviously, but generally speaking, currents can range from quite
moderate to strong, particularly around reefs and in deeper waters where the water can really
pick up some speed. However, the Bahamas is celebrated for its exceptional underwater
visibility, often exceeding 30 meters, so this crystal clear clarity allows for really breathtaking
underwater vistas, showcasing vibrant coral reefs teeming with diverse marine life and dramatic
underwater landscapes. While visibility can fluctuate slightly depending on weather and
currents and specific dive sites, the Bahamas is quite consistent with their outstanding visibility,
making it a dream destination for underwater photographers and videographers, so if you have
any kind of underwater housing or underwater camera, it's definitely worth bringing it.
Packing for the Bahamas requires just lightweight, breathable clothing for both the dry and the hot
seasons. A light jacket or a sweater might be helpful for cooler evenings during the dry season,
just when you're sort of out and you're a bit more exposed, it's nice to have an extra layer.
So delving deeper into the fantastic itineraries offered by the Bahamas Aggressor,
so this incredible liveaboard operates two main dive expeditions, one called Exuma Cays and the
other Tiger Beach. So the Exuma Cays itinerary starts around Massau and embarks on a southeast
journey past southwest Eleuthera and then towards Little San Salvador. From there it heads west to
Great Exuma, which is a captivating chain of little sandy jewels nestled in the heart of turquoise and
sapphire waters. So this breathtaking location boasts a fascinating combination of vibrant
shallow reefs and dramatic wall diving, offering a diverse underwater playground. Prepare to
encounter a variety of sharks including tiger sharks, hammerheads and oceanic white tips as well.
Explore vibrant coral reefs teeming with life, delve into intriguing underwater caves and
experience the exhilarating thrill of drift dives along dramatic walls. The Tiger Beach itinerary
takes a more northerly route, departing from Grand Bahama and venturing north towards Mount Olympus
before returning. So this exciting adventure features unforgettable dives at Tiger Beach
where you can witness firsthand the awe-inspiring presence of tiger sharks, hence the name,
lemon sharks and Caribbean reef sharks. The itinerary also includes the exploration of the
historic Sugar Wreck which dates back to the 1800s and of course you can dive along deep walls
and caverns as well. For your best chances to see tiger sharks you want to go around October to
January time of year, that's when they tend to be there. You'll typically see them all year round
however if you really want to maximize your chances yeah October to January is the best time.
