My name is Gemma Hollingsworth. I'm 19 and I'm from Melbourne.
Growing up I was really into sport. My dream was to always play Aussie rules at the top league.
That was kind of where I was heading. Last game of the season I snapped my ACL, my MCL.
I've never experienced pain like that. Wouldn't wish it upon anyone.
While I was still recovering, my twin sister Cloudy competed in the 800 metres at Paris 2024.
I'm so proud of her but it was tough knowing this is kind of my dream over.
To just escape the pressure and the stress of trying to rehab my knee,
music became such a big breakthrough and it really did cement for me
music is definitely what I want to do.
For my blind audition I'm singing Prada by Ray.
A bit of a theatrical cinematic version. I guess with any performance a lot can go
wrong but for me personally I tend to get a bit shaky when I'm nervous
and I definitely will be nervous.
I grew up more sporty. I never really showed what I could do with singing.
This is a massive moment for me.
What's your name?
My name is Gemma Hollingsworth. I'm 19 and I'm from Melbourne.
Hey Gemma. Gemma, Gemma tell us your story. Like what's your singing background?
Well originally I really wanted to be an AFLW player. I love sport. I love footy
but I unfortunately tore my ACL and my MCL ligaments.
I did that too. I've got a new knee.
Oh yeah it was horrible. I then just went to music and
went to singing and I love it so much and it's yeah my passion now so yeah.
And that's your gang over there?
Yeah this is my family. My mum, Sky, Cloudy, my twin sister who
recently competed in Paris Olympics.
What was your sister competing in?
Cloudy was competing in the 800 meters, the athletics. So yeah super proud of her.
What's your time at 800?
A minute 58 and point four.
Oh that's good going. I used to run 800s. I ran twos and eights.
I was the Irish champion at 200 meters.
Anyway sorry enough about me. Gemma, that was incredible.
There was a lot of technical stuff. I know you were trying to impress and hit notes
and that's what you're supposed to do here. You've got a minute and a half to shine
and you did it. You know there were some moments that weren't perfect
but that's okay. You know you got three coaches turning here.
So you have options and this is the best option. Team Rowling right here.
Okay great job. Well done. I need you on my team.
Thank you. I found that surprising and exciting and that's one of my favorite things on this show
to be surprised. Performance wasn't perfect but I can hear this kernel of pure talent that is
very exciting to me. Thank you. I think you've got a lot of amazing potential.
Thank you so much. Thank you. Gemma, I absolutely love that. I love the drama.
You know you brought so much to that performance. You obviously have good technique and sometimes
that can take away from the emotion. Yeah. But there was just moments of magic. So you know
it's in there you know. We just have to maybe relax a little bit and just access that a little
bit more. Just 40. Hello. What other styles of music do you listen to? Kind of just a bunch of
everything to be honest. I love singing pop. I was trained classically. Still am training
classically. So I think that's why I heard a bit of that in there. Obviously that's the foundation
of my whole career. So in many ways it's a no-brainer which coach you should go for. You've
taken the pop genre and the opera genre. Those two genres have collided seamlessly and there's not
many people in the world who can do that. Thank you. I think you know Kate's right. There really
isn't many people that can mix that pop genre and the opera. But she can. That kind of makes you
a very obvious choice. So I think that puts me in a very awkward position. But luckily I have
a little button here. Kate's not gonna like me for this but I'm gonna have to block her.
Sorry not sorry. I can't believe you did that. I just think we can compare HCL
repairs and you know and we can do some working out and then we can sing. What's it gonna be Gemma?
I've done the voice in different countries. I did it in Germany. I did it in the UK.
I've done it here in Australia. And all of the artists always say they have the most amount of
fun on team Ronan. So you know I think it's the right place for you. You could go with Ronan
and Ronan is a good option but I'm better. Well you know it's reasonable. I don't know about better.
Come on Gemma. Go with the girl power. Go with the girl power. Every time. 800 meters. I think
we can race. Oh my gosh. Two knees. Two knees. That's your pitch. The coach I'm gonna go with
is Melanie Starr.
Thank you darling. Oh my god you were brilliant. So good. Let's go see him.
Bro did you actually say but I have two knees. Yes that's really. Oh I gotta go with him.
What a beautiful and talented family you have. Oh congratulations. Honestly to get up there
and perform like that. Go celebrate. I'll see you soon. See you later.
I can't believe you did that. I know. There was just something. There was just one moment in the
song and I was like I just want this girl. No no. And I had to go for it. I think she could have
went her way. So I think it was a very clever block. But it doesn't feel good. Do you want to
take it back? Well I don't think I'm going to use my total block. I think I'm done. Really?
I think you did girl. You gotta do what you gotta do. But all I'm saying is
it's going to come back to you when you least expect it.
