@Lil-s8l Two humpback whales came to visit: The Mother and the calf. Do you know their size? Do you know their weight? Do you know their lift span?Did you hear their breathing before? watch until the end to find out!
Feeding here. They haven't moved very far since I saw them the first time.
So they might be feeding.
So this looks like a mother and a calf pair that we saw yesterday.
It's a probably a three-year-old calf.
Two or three years old.
They'll stay with their mothers for about three years.
How old before the calves get to full size?
Probably four or five years old.
They'll be, well three years old they'll be on their own.
But four or five years old they'll be full adults.
They'll reach sexual maturity around five or six years of age.
Wow, beautiful, hey?
We got a little bit deeper this time, I think.
Average lifespan?
50 to 60 years.
Some scientists push it a little further, 70 and 80 years of age.
But 50 to 60 years is the average lifespan.
The mother, the bigger whale here is about 40, 45 feet long.
This boat is 42 feet long and weighs 20 tons.
She weighs 40 tons.
Double the weight of the boat.
I think we saw the same mother and calf pair yesterday afternoon, actually.
It's really strange for us to actually come way offshore like this.
Usually the whales are much closer to shore.
I'm surprised that she's way out here.
Yeah, usually they're right in tight to the shore.
I can show you video after video after video of the whales going right along the rocks.
So I'm actually surprised she's way offshore today.
Well, they might have just come out here to take a break from feeding.
They may have been feeding all morning.
They might have come out here just to take a break and relax for a little bit.
And they'll probably go back to shore later on to feed again.
The other one's a little closer to us.
If you listen closely, you can hear the whales blow out.
But you can actually hear them breathe in as well.
So they blow out and breathe in almost simultaneously.
So you hear, listen to the big one.
Hear it breathe back as well.
Wrap around the boat and not touch it.
