Chile Deciding Between Communist and Ultraconservative in Presidential Election

The first round of presidential elections in Chile was held on Nov. 16. The race offered Chileans a dramatic choice between two extremes: Jeannette Jara, who's a card-carrying communist and former labor minister in the left-wing government; and the main right-wing contender, José Antonio Kast, who's an ultraconservative lawyer and former lawmaker. He opposes abortion and vows to shrink the government.
