Representing the United States of America, ladies and gentlemen, Jason Brown.
Jason Brown with his mom and dad in the audience, fifth after the short program.
He looks to be in pretty good shape this early in the season.
It's the Olympic year, so lots of competitions.
He'll move on to Finland next week for Grand Prix number two.
He'll skip the free program to say something.
And he gets both the triple axels off the top of the program.
And I stumbled in alone.
So long, my man.
Just a double salchow.
I'm feeling so small.
You're the one that I'm saying goodbye to.
So say something, I'm giving up on us.
And I'm sorry that I couldn't get to you.
Say something, I will swallow my words.
I'm still not saying goodbye.
So say, I'm so sorry.
I couldn't get to you.
So say, so sorry that.
There is a look at mom and dad in the audience.
There's so many good things about this young man as a person.
But one of the things I love most is his gratitude to the audience.
And even with a flawed performance, there were flaws on some of the landings of the jumps.
He keeps himself grounded.
He thanks the audience.
He thanks his parents.
And he thanks that he has the opportunity to skate.
He's a pure skater.
Wonderful body lines.
Great positions.
Great sense of music.
The sport aspect on this night had flaws on some of the technical elements.
Thank you!
Well, how do you become such a fan favorite?
Not just here in America, but all over the world.
It's because your quality is that good.
It's that simple.
But on the sport side.
Here's the first triple axel.
Gets around on that into the double toe loop.
It's landed on the quarter in the judging system on the first triple axel.
Here's the second one.
And that goes clean in the system.
There it is.
Nice start to the program.
You can see all his choreographic movements.
Takes his time to make sure that he pays attention to all that exists in that program.
There's that triple lutz.
Does a three turn.
And plans to go on the triple toe loop.
Mispicks on his timing.
And has a double.
There's the triple flip a little bit later in the program.
With a lay kick right up into the double axel.
And another one.
You know you're a good skater when people appreciate your program even with flaws.
He has a 171.20.
His season's best.
He's going to fall quite short of that with the mistakes on this night.
His program component score is all in the mid to high eights.
A 156.90.
That is first in the free program.
With a total competition score of 239.59.
Jason Brown of the United States takes over the lead.
Four skaters to count.
