Testing the Home Trends / Harbor Breeze New Orleans ceiling fan with only 4 of the 6 blades installed. This is 2/3rd the blades it ships with.
The Walmart's Home Trends brand latex manufactured 52-inch Casablanca Victorian knockoff
ceiling fan with four blades. This is two-thirds of the blades that it's shipped with and is
intended to be used with. Looks completely ridiculous, but I guess it will make for an
interesting experiment. Now unlike with the Crest unit, I didn't notice a significant
change in performance on this one between the three and the six blades. And I feel like three
blades thus far has been kind of the best number of blades for performance. So I don't think that
we're going to see much of a performance increase, but we're going to find out.
We'll begin on low. We'll start with wall control low and the fan's onboard control set to low.
So this is the slowest achievable speed with this speed control setup. I don't know how
linear this is. Like if we go from, you know, medium on the wall control and low on the fan
versus low on the wall control, medium on the fan. I don't know how the values compare exactly. So
some of these speeds might kind of be overlaps, but we'll show them all and if they're overlaps,
they're overlaps. Oh no. It's already kind of a stupid video to begin with, so it doesn't make
any difference to me. Although actually, you know, these videos aren't so bad. It's the
no blades that's dumb. The one blade is dumb. The lights hanging from the wires is dumb.
This, admittedly, this is kind of interesting to see how the performance varies.
So
there is a draft. It's not super powerful. Probably not super useful for cooling either,
but it is detectable. So this is medium on the wall control and low on the fan.
Now that can't be low on the fan. That's, I think that's medium on the fan.
Okay, this is low on the fan. So that was, I thought that was a touch faster than it was before.
I don't find there's a whole lot of difference in these speeds on low. I think that the bearings
are just so good on this. There's like no resistance whatsoever. So that might be a
little bit slower than it was before, but it's not by a whole lot. So now this is actually low
on the fan and low on the wall control. This is the slowest speed we can get, slowest configuration.
Okay, now move up to medium on the control, low on the fan. Okay, now we'll go to high on the
control, the wall control, low on the fan. So this is the fan's factory low speed.
As far as the airflow is concerned, it's a good functional low. It's a nice gentle breeze.
I'm not going to really be able to tell how much better or worse this is performing until we get
to high. I haven't used this much. You know, it was installed pretty much at winter time, so it
mostly just runs on low all the time. So I'm not too familiar with all the, uh, low isn't like the
slowest possible speed, which barely moves in the air. I'm not really familiar with the factory
speeds on this. So we'll go back down to low on the wall control and we'll move up to medium
on the onboard controls. I think it's going a little bit slower now. Let's go up to medium
on the wall control. So this is medium on the wall and medium on the fan itself. Now it's picking up
a little more speed. Yeah, it's pushing a decent, decent amount of air for how quickly it's running.
It's, it's still not running that fast, but there's plenty of air coming down. All right,
now we'll go up to high on the wall control, medium on the fan. So this is the fan's factory
medium now. Seems to be a slight balance issue here, which was not necessarily present with all
it than it used to, which would make sense because there's a more, there's more space in between some
of the blades than others. All right, so now we're going to move to high on the fan. So this will be
the wall control's speeds. This is high on the fan, low on the wall. Okay, the medium on the wall.
I think these speeds are relatively similar to the factory speeds. And now the high.
Now this is full throttle. And even though this is a balanced blade configuration,
there seems to be a balance discrepancy within the blades themselves,
as it is shaking a bit more now than it usually does. Actually, I think this is a little bit
stronger than it was before. Not by a significant amount, but slightly. The sound is certainly
annoying. It has that same kind of choppy sound as it does like when we use fans in the garage
like it would be. It's not really choppy or gusty at all. It's a pretty steady airflow.
Okay, now we'll cut it off. And it will likely still spin down for a long time
because the bearings in this unit are exceptionally good.
