In this video, we give take a hike on the rugged coastline of Cape Kiwanda in Pacific City Oregon USA.
Hey guys, we are back at the Oregon coast, one of our favorite places on the planet.
This place is called Cape Kiwanda and the name of this place is after that cape that goes way out.
Maybe if we have time we're going to walk out there and show you around. It's just absolutely
beautiful. We have the big dune here, which is an awesome hike in the morning. We'll probably
It's famous over here for that huge rock. Now it's often mistaken with
Cannon Beach and the rock that was on the movie Goonies. It looks very similar and we're just
down the coast a couple hours south of the Goonies beach. Let me show you around this
beautiful little town. One of the most awesome places is right behind us. This is called the
Pelican Brewery and Restaurant. They make delicious food. They also brew west coast
IPAs and so on right on site. It's just such an idyllic spot right overlooking the ocean. It's
fun to come here in the winter. In the summer we've been here in all kinds of different weather.
The views from inside are amazing and believe it or not, 22 years ago when Carol and I got engaged
we came here the same day to this very same place. It's a very special place for us as a family.
We've been here almost every year since we got married and we just keep coming back. We were
here not that long ago with the Jeep and this time we just have a little rental car. Anytime
we get to Oregon we make our beeline out to Cape Kowanda. You're going to love it. We'll show you
around. We've got this beautiful little cabin here right by the beach. You can hear the waves
crashing on the shore in the distance. It's got a nice little loft up there. We have seven people
and everybody's got a nice cozy bed so pretty cool. Outside we've got a little fire going
and our aunt and uncle from Ohio are here with us as well.
I mean if you actually look at the end of the stick, there's a marshmallow on fire.
If you come out here to Cape Kowanda they have a really nice little walk you can take.
You don't have to go all the way up the dune. You can kind of walk along the edge here and
they've got it kind of fenced off so you don't get too close to the edge but this section here
lets you go right out and see the powerful big waves coming crashing into the shore. Let's go
take a look. There's a sea lion out there. I don't know if you could hear that as well as we can hear it here but
you can actually feel the waves shake the ground when they crash into the right near the shore.
There's something about the Oregon coast it's uh that's why they don't call it the beach or
you know go out to the ocean. Everybody says we're going out to the coast. It's
just got that feel of a rugged powerful coastline. There's nothing like it.
There it is. A couple of sea lion seals. There they are. I think I'm getting them. Oh yeah.
Teal. Darker blue. Every color of blue and then tan sand.
Now we're climbing the dune. Getting higher and higher and it is a good
climb. I think I'm overdressed for the occasion. Definitely not wearing my hat.
It's a lot easier going down than up.
So after a wonderful walk along the beach along the coastline of Oregon we're now heading up
to our favorite restaurant right there just over that hill to get some clam chowder. Nothing like
fresh seafood right by the sea. So if you ever get here to Oregon do some exploring.
Highly recommend coming up to Cape Kiwanda. The little village is called Pacific City
and there's some beautiful hikes and always amazing scenery. This is also one of the kids
favorite surfing spots. See surfers out there. There's always a good wave here. In fact there's
a little surf shop here called Moment Surf Co and this is where the kids got their first
surfing lessons. A guy named Gary, the legend of Pacific City. Great teacher.
Taught them not only how to surf but how to appreciate the ocean.
And so that's another activity you can do here. Pacific City, Oregon. Don't miss it.
