How we all doing out there? I hope
you're all spot on as normal. Now, I've
been shopping to Iceland. Come and have
a look what I got. I was in Iceland and
I noticed this was new, so I thought
I'll have to try it. Uh, it's a grilled
steak and mash with garden peas and
pepperc corn sauce. Uh, it's 400 g. And
there's a serving suggestion. So, I got
told off in the comments saying I'm
spending too much time in Aldi. So, I've
done a I've been to a few other
supermarkets and got a few new items.
So, I thought we'd take a look at this
one. So, the price it was um 265.
So, let's uh take a closer look at the
packaging.
We might have a few shadows today. I do
apologize. So, I do listen to you in the
comments. Um I have gone different
supermarkets. Um I thought I'd take a a
trip in Iceland.
So, we've had a look at the front. Let's
go around the back. It's like the front
but that way around. Portrait and
landscape, I think they call it. That's
portrait. And um that's landscape.
Anyway, enough of that. I got some
spiel. It's 400 gram grilled steak and
mash with garden peas and peppercorn
sauce. Chopped and formed beef grilled
steak with a seasoning in a peppercorn
sauce with mashed potato and peas. Got
some nutrition there. If you want to
have a look at that and pause it, by all
means, go ahead. There's the
ingredients. We've got a few allergens
in there. What we got? Milk,
metabisulfite,
wheat, soya in there. So, we've got
mashed potato 34%. What other
percentages have we got? Let's have a
look. Uh, pepperc corn sauce 32%.
Um, we've got beef grill steak is 21%.
I think. And we've got um peas is 13%.
So it says, "Warning, although every
effort has been made to remove all
bones, some may remain. We've covered
the allergens. They're in bold. Let's
have a look around the box. Best before
24th of January, 27. So good for another
couple of years.
Uh there's the ways to cook. You can do
it in the oven or you can do it in the
microwave. For best results, cook from
frozen, which this is frozen."
So it's up to you. It's it's it can be a
ping meal or it can be done in the oven.
I'll let you decide.
So, there's more spiel there. Might have
covered everything. If I do miss
anything out, I'll put it all in the
description of the video. So, let's get
this open. See what we have got.
Um, so we got a tab system. Um, no, we
haven't. My finger. So, I'll just do
that. And it's upside down. It's 50/50,
was it? Which way you going to get? I
got it wrong. That's what you get.
Yeah. There you go.
TV dinners.
Proper ping meal. That is it. That is a
proper ping meal. Certainly is. Yeah, I
do I do have quite a lot of people watch
me who say, "Can you do more ping
meals?" I get a lot of truckers who
message me as well saying that they've
got a microwave in the cab. Can you do
ping meals? So, this is all for you.
Yes. Let's um let's have a look at the
old cooking instructions.
So, yeah. I mean, you could do it in the
oven. And if you're sort of doing other
stuff in the oven, you could, you know,
utilize the whole of of your oven. Um, I
haven't. I'm just doing this. I'm going
to do it in the microwave. So, you to
pierce the film lid several times.
So, there is a procedure. I will go
through it um when we get through it.
So, it's going in for 5 minutes, then we
to bring it out, but I'll show you that
when we get to it. It's had 5 minutes.
So, we need to do a bit of a sealed peel
test now cuz we need to turn the beef
steak over and we need to mix up the
mash. So, let's have a look. We'll do
that now. So, I'm going to mix the mash
up.
Yeah,
got that mashy smell.
Um, and there's your beef steak. I'm
going to sort of I'm going to turn that
over.
Yeah.
Right. We've had no escapees.
Can't help it. The old dad jokes. Right.
It's going back in the microwave. So,
it's had another 5 minutes. I said 10
minutes now. Do I think 12 minutes is a
long time like um but yeah, it says 12
minutes. So, you've got to stir it
again.
Yeah,
I reckon. And and apparently it's got to
go in for another two minutes, but
I'll give it a 30 seconds because I I
don't want the peas are getting all
shriveled up. Oh, we've got an escapee
there. It's gone in there. It's gone in
the beef steak bit. It's trying to get
away. I'm going to give it another 30
seconds. Um
yeah, it's it's looking like it's
overdone. So, I'm just going to In fact,
I might just leave it like that. It's
had 10 minutes. It's had 10 minutes. So,
let's let's dish it up. I forgot as
well, my my microwave is 900 W, so it
will need um less time. They're just
guides. That's for I've just noticed
that's for um 800 W. So, yeah, needs
less time if it's at a higher power. If
it's a lower power, it'll need longer.
It's um that's how it works. So, I'll
show you it. I'll bring you down to my
level. We'll have a look. Let's see if I
can get a bit of better light for you.
I'll take you right over here to the
light coming in. If that's any better
or not,
that's the piece. Oh, put it down there.
The plates's up. Believe it or not,
right, I'm going to get it over here.
I'm going to dish it up. I'm going all
over the spot here with this, aren't I?
Taking it around the kitchen. Let's have
a little ride around the kitchen.
Yeah.
So, I'll get the mash out first. Can
always stick a little knob of butter in
the mash if you want. Can't you
can always uh just to pimp it up a bit.
A bit of salt in there maybe. Or maybe
it might not. You'd best to taste it
first in it really. But I think butter
would um
Can't beat a bit of butter, can you?
Can't beat a bit of butter. So, I'm
going to get the peas in now as well.
Now, these plates are quite big. For
some reason, I always tend to buy plates
which are big. Now, we've had these
plates a while. These plates here, um
I've got one left and it's chipped. So,
I need to get some more. So, it might
look like it's a very small meal because
the plates are huge.
It's 265.
Peppercorn sauce.
I do like peppercorn sauce. I think it's
my favorite with steak. Yeah. Right.
Let's tidy up and I'll bring you back.
So, that's what you get. And now it's
it's a chopped and formed um steak, so
don't expect a sirloin or a rump on
there. There's your peppercorn sauce. We
do have a few escape peas here. They've
managed to go into here and maybe wanted
a swim, have a little swim around in the
gravy. There's your peas. And there's
your mash.
Yeah. Right. Let's try it.
So, I'm going to sit down and eat it.
Oh,
yeah. Let's um
now I know what you're thinking. Chopped
and you know reformed beef steak. I'm
just going to try it as it is, you know,
before I make any sort of judgment. So,
I'm going to get straight into the beef
steak first and we'll have a look at
this. And uh if you do like this kind of
um video, if this is your kind of thing,
um maybe consider subscribing and uh
give the video a thumbs up. I can't ask
for any more than that. I do thank you
for it. So, there's the the beef steak
in there. Have a look at that if you
can. If it if it'll focus and not on my
ball swad.
I'll get a bit of peppercorn sauce on it
and we'll see what this is like.
The pepperc corn sauce is very gloopy.
The beef steak has sort of a consistency
of a a very cheap sausage.
Quite mushy. Quite mushy and quite
gelatinous.
Peppercorn sauce is pretty salty, but
it's not giving a lot of pepper flavor
out.
So, let's try a bit of mash. I know you
I'm just trying it all individually
first and then I'll sort of get it all
together cuz this you know you put the
the pecorn sauce over your mash and that
don't you mix it all together
m
that mash is tasty. It's very salty.
I've not added any salt and pepper. You
maybe notice I've got it there but it is
very salty.
I don't mind it. I don't mind it. I can
actually taste potato as well. I'm I'm
astonished. Normally with these kind of
meals, it's just it tastes all very
bland and all very the same, but I can
actually taste potato. So, I'm going to
try the few peas. Nearly had an escapee
then. Nearly went.
Yeah, they're not hard. They're soft how
I like them. The microwaves obviously,
you know, I've dried a few out. You can
see they've all they've all sort of gone
dry.
But they're all right. Yeah, I'm I'm
going to I'm going to try it now with a
bit of a bit of meat.
Um, a bit of mashed potato. Um, stick
some carrots on there as well. Uh,
carrots.
Stick some peas on there. And stick a
bit more of that peppercorn sauce. Um,
I'll show you what I'll do with that
peppercorn sauce in a minute.
I did take a big mouthful then.
It's It's perfectly edible. It really
is.
But the pepperc corn sauce, it
definitely needs It definitely needs a
pepper.
That's what it needs because it's
lacking in it's it's lacking in the old
pepper department. So, I've just put
plenty of pepper in there. Now, let's
try it again.
Maybe a bit of bit of butter in the
mash. Um,
and you get in there somewhere.
That's better.
It's a little bit beefy. The the beef
steak. Not massively beefy. It has does
have a sort of a gelatinous sort of a
mushy sort of texture.
Like I said, bit more pepper over it.
Bit more and some butter in the mash.
Yeah, you've got a I won't go as far as
saying it's tasty, but it's it's okay.
We'll leave it at that. It's average and
it's okay. It's definitely edible.
That's for sure.
Yes. So, that's it.
What does it score out of 10? I'll give
it a five out of 10. It's average. very
average.
The mashed potatoes a seven out of 10.
That's quite nice.
Don't know what it would been like if
you done it in the oven 40 minutes.
Certainly not been my oven on for 40
minutes just for that. That's for sure.
But yeah,
pimp it up a little bit and uh
you're getting somewhere, aren't you?
So, thanks for watching. I do appreciate
it. Please keep recommendations coming
in. I hope you like this little seating
area. It's a bit better to sit down. We
sit here over nighttime. Uh my wife
cooks a lovely meal and I'll help
sometimes by standing there and just
pointing.
Um I do me a bit, don't I? And then me
wife will uh will dish it all up. I
can't cook for toffee. I can't. I'm not
going to lie. You've seen me cooking
videos. Um
so take care. All the best and uh I'll
get back to you on the next one.
