What happens when you eat a banana every day?
Is it a secret fattener?
Or a real superfood?
And not just for the brain?
Does it make you happy or does it just make you full?
How many bananas are too many a day?
What is myth and what is scientifically sustainable?
And what really happens in the body when you eat bananas regularly,
even several a day?
I'll explain all of that to you now.
The banana is one of the most popular fruit varieties in the world.
Fast, practical, sweet.
But it is exactly this sweetness that makes it suspicious for many.
And it's worth taking a look behind the scale.
Bananas provide a whole range of important nutrients.
Calcium, magnesium, B6, vitamin B6,
fiber and yes, also sugar.
And especially when the bananas are very ripe.
Calcium, for example, regulates your blood pressure.
Magnesium is important for your muscles and nerves.
B6 needs your body for hormone production
and also for energy production and so on and so forth.
And the ballast substances contained,
especially the resistant strength in unripe bananas,
do your gut really well.
So the banana is anything but empty sugar.
Green bananas contain much more resistant strength.
This acts like a prebiotic in the gut.
So it feeds on the good bacteria
and causes a slower blood sugar rise.
The riper the banana, the more strength is converted into sugar.
And that makes it softer, sweeter, but also digestible faster.
And if you have problems with blood sugar fluctuations,
you should rather go for light green-yellow bananas
than the very yellow one.
But if you need quick energy,
for example before exercise,
you should go for fully ripe bananas.
It is not the banana itself that is problematic.
It is the context and the individual need.
It is often said that bananas make you happy
because they contain serotonin.
Is that true?
Yes, but the serotonin in the banana
does not make it over the blood-brain barrier at all.
So it doesn't get to where it should actually work.
But be careful!
The banana contains tryptophan.
What is that again?
That's an amino acid.
And this amino acid can convert the body into serotonin.
Provided that it gets enough vitamin B6,
magnesium and complex carbohydrates at the same time.
So that means a banana
that is also eaten combined with oats or on a wholemeal bread.
I love that very much, for example.
This can actually support the body's own serotonin formation.
So yes, good mood with a system and without this sugar flash.
Of course, a very ripe banana, pure,
can rapidly increase blood sugar.
But in combination with high-carbohydrate foods,
as I said before,
eaten with oats or on a wholemeal bread,
this increase is significantly reduced.
The other components that delay the absorption of sugar,
namely fat or protein, for example from nuts,
slow down the blood sugar peak.
A classic example from my own kitchen.
Wholemeal bread and banana slices,
a few walnuts on top and perfect for the brain,
for good mood and much better than any breakfast croissant.
And yes, even in banana bread,
i.e. in the oven-baked banana cake,
the banana is hardly a problem,
as long as the recipe does not boil over from sugar and butter
and you work with wholemeal bread.
The matrix does not count the single fruit.
What is it about these dark lines in the banana?
Does that mean the banana is rotten or is it normal?
Have you ever noticed that?
I'm picking up on this topic now because someone asked me recently.
Here, look, there are three black, dark dots in the banana.
Is that normal?
Of course it's normal.
They are actually in every banana,
but they were very dark and that's why they stood out.
So if you cut a banana normally,
it should actually see these dark, fibrous lines along the longitudinal axis.
Many then ask themselves, or rather a few,
because I was asked for the first time,
is it actually a sign of mold, a sign of decay?
The answer is very simple.
No, these are the so-called flower bundles.
They transport nutrients into the plant
and remain visible even after harvesting.
They are completely unnoticeable and rather a sign
that the banana still contains many of its natural structures.
If the banana otherwise does not show any muddy spots,
no smell of fermentation or mold,
just eat it.
So these lines are not a cause for concern.
Bananas are therefore nutritious, practical, versatile.
And if you combine them correctly,
completely unproblematic, even with daily consumption.
Again, they provide potassium, fiber, magnesium,
secondary plant substances and can even support our well-being
correctly by coupling the serotonin formation in the body.
The fear of the sugar bomb banana is mostly exaggerated.
As always, the overall picture of the diet is crucial.
So eat your banana calmly.
It is best to combine it with oatmeal, nuts or sourdough bread.
And remember, it's not about prohibitions,
it's about the connections that you should really understand.
And if you ask yourself now, hey, she just said,
she explains how much I can eat a day.
Again, it depends on how much you move,
whether you do a lot of sports,
whether you work a lot with your head.
So one to two.
And if you do a lot of sports, three bananas, gladly.
But it doesn't have to be that many every day.
So one banana a day, all the best.
If there are more, yes, then there must be a reason or there should be a reason for it.
And there are also other fruit varieties,
such as berries, please don't forget them.
Do you still know banana doubters?
Then please share this video with them.
