Hello guys! In this video I'm gonna show you typical Russian market. We are very very far
from Moscow. We are in the center of Asia in Siberia and I live in a very small place in a
very small city. So I'm gonna show you typical provincial market. This place is for locals only.
Sometimes some tourists come here as well because we have a variety of souvenirs here. But mostly
it's just for normal local people who come here to buy everyday stuff and buy
food, fish, meat, things like that. All the food there is fresh. Normally we have quite a lot of
people here. Right now it's holiday so maybe today is gonna be not so crowded. So we'll see.
So this is central market and there is a parking spot over here. It's not for free. You have to
pay if you park your car here. So you can leave your car here and get inside the market itself.
There are indoor and outdoor area on the market. So I'm gonna show you indoor and
some shops around the market which are on the open space. So let's check out this part of the market.
These small open-air shops offer cheap clothing for home and street clothes like socks, gloves,
jackets, shorts, shoes, slippers and many other things. As you can see these are very simple
goods of no-name brands. As for me I wouldn't buy it for myself but some locals do.
But they have some items which are pretty nice. For example these slippers. They are made of
sheep's wool and it cost 800 rubles which is quite reasonable price. They are very nice,
very warm and soft. In the next shop we can find very Siberian style shoes. We call it unti. It's
made of reindeer fur. Normally it's very expensive. However in this particular shop it's only
10 000 rubles which makes me think that it's of a low quality and made in China.
But here there are lots of Mongolian goods. My region is not far from Mongolian border
and their products are very popular around my place. Our winters are tough as well as Mongolian
winters so they know how to keep warm. Cashmere gloves for example cost 2000 rubles here which
is quite pricey but it's cashmere. Socks for example made of camel cost 300 rubles only.
We love their goods. It's mostly made of yak camel or cashmere wool. I wear all of this myself as I
work a lot outdoor in cold temperatures in winter as a tour guide. Let's get inside and over here
we've got information about working hours. So it works from 8 till 8 every day.
All right this is central market the main entrance. Let's get in.
At the entrance you can take a trolley. I've never seen them actually before I started to
create this video. To the left we've got a pharmacy. It's closed now. The market itself
is not huge but it's pretty big. I'm gonna show you the main parts of it. To the right we've got
sushi place and to the left bakery to offer locals some snacks and our first stop will be next to
delicious fish shops. There is a variety of cold and hot smoked fish here. This is mostly local
fish from Lake Baikal such as omul, whitefish, taiming and others. You can even try them before
buying. That's how shop assistants are sure about the quality. Also there is a caviar here black and
red caviar. The brand fish of my region of Russia is omul. We call it omul fish. It costs from
1800 to 2000 rubles per kilo. There is an additional service here. They can pack this fish
to get rid of any smell. You can travel with it even on the airplane. You can see lots of
vendors who are selling fish. They will all fight for you when you come to the market.
Our next stop is a souvenir shop. I live in that part of Russia which is very famous for tourists.
We have amazing Lake Baikal which is UNESCO heritage site. We've got lots of tourists and
of course we need to offer them souvenirs. On central market you can find plenty of choice
of different souvenirs both local and Chinese. We keep walking. Today it's not really
crowded on the market. Russian people are still celebrating. Here we've got
kolbasa sausages. Different types of it. You can see the prices and the next area.
Oh by the way we've got caviar here. Red caviar. You can see the price 1200 rubles.
What else we've got here? One more souvenir shop with nice seals. On Lake Baikal we have Baikal
seals. This white toy is a seal. The next big part of the market is occupied with a huge variety of
chicken products. Here you can find chicken heads, neck, liver, chicken skin, even dumplings
with chicken, chicken sausages. By the way marinated chicken for barbecue. I do love it a
lot. Also we have plenty of choice of raw chicken, different parts, legs, wings, breasts. So it's a
chicken paradise. There is plenty of choice of dumplings with meat, with beef, with horse meat,
vegetarian dumplings. We have saying in Russia that the further east you go the bigger the
dumplings. So Russia is the biggest country in the world. So you can imagine how many types
of dumplings we have. This shop offers dried game meat, different types of deers, even bear,
red deer. It's not something Russians eat often. I would say we almost never eat it. It's just
when we have guests or like foreigners, it's for them. And the rest of products here,
this is what Russians love. We call it kolbasa or sausages. And we eat it pretty much every day.
On central market we can also buy different types of meat. Beef, lamb, pork, horse meat,
as well as different parts of these animals. Actually Siberian cuisine mostly consists of
meat. So it's meat, meat and meat. Very few people here are vegetarians, as it's very hard
to be vegetarian here. We have vegetables and we will go to that part. But meat is our main product.
We need it for health, to survive in such severe cold conditions. Also there is cheese area here.
Russians love cheese. Plenty of choice, as you can see. Some types are produced here, some types
of cheese are from other regions, both from farmers and factories. And probably you notice
you're not supposed to touch any products here, as you can do in supermarkets. Our next stop
is one more souvenir shop. But this one is special. This shop offers jewelry made of stones.
Well, this purple one is a local stone, which can be found only in my region. We call it
Different souvenirs are made of it. Bears, sables, foxes, any animals and bracelets and earrings and
necklaces. Our next step is another part of the market. So this area, which requires some fridges
and in between these two parts of the market divided by a small supermarket, it's called
нашел. It can be translated as found. And we are heading to the second part of the market and there
is a plastic bag shop here. You can even find here a thermoplastic bag for fish or meat you just
purchased. Very convenient. A coffee machine, by the way. You can drink coffee, espresso, six
durables, americana, 70, cappuccino, 80. Some coffee to get some energy. Our next stop is a bread shop.
Different types of cookies. Also you can find a very nice variety of breads here
with different seeds, with or without any stuff inside. Actually, this bread is quite pricey.
It's a special one, I guess. We have like more simple bread. Over here we have dried fruits.
Dried fruits. We do love them. Very good for health. Plenty of choice of dried fruits and different
farmers sell cottage cheese and sour cream. They will make you to try if you come closer, so be careful.
Basically, you can find on this market anything you need.
For example, this shop offers frozen berries and frozen mushrooms, different types of mushrooms
and mixes of mushrooms. Actually, Russians love to collect mushrooms by themselves in a forest,
but for lazy Russians like me there is a choice in a shop. Berries. We have blueberry, cherry, mango,
strawberry here. And our favorite is mango. Of course, it's not from Siberia. It comes from
Vietnam or Thailand, but this is really favorite fruit of Siberian people.
Alright, honey is here. Honey is something Russians respect a lot. We believe honey can help when you
catch a cold. And yeah, it does help. And again, some of this honey is local, some is from
neighboring region. There is a shop with eggs, of course. That's how we sell eggs in Russia.
And the price depends on the quality. Here we have Mongolian goods again. Different stuff made of
leather. Very good quality. I used to have a wallet a few years ago from Mongolia. It was great.
It did work perfect for many years. So here we have wallets for ladies, for guys. And prices are
super cheap. There are not only Russian products on the market, but also Chinese. My region is
located next to Mongolia and China, so local people got used to eat a lot of Chinese food.
But also we have a decent amount of Chinese people living in my city.
So this shop is both for Russians and for Chinese. Lots of candies, noodles and other stuff.
There is a shop with a huge variety of tea from all over the world, with a huge variety of coffee
and other powdered drinks. Whatever you can imagine is here.
You can see prices. And I do not drink coffee, but I love tea.
Okay, this is time for my favorite shops. These two. This is a shop of a candy factory,
local candy factory. They offer very good quality candies. For example,
cedar nuts covered with chocolate, with berries, without berries. And my favorite
sweet product is a marshmallow. Our Russian marshmallow is not the same as American marshmallow.
It's organic, very good for health, at least not harmful. So even people who are
having a diet can eat it. The next shop is full of cookies,
different types of cookies, whatever you can only imagine, whatever you can even ask for is here.
All right, what's next? Some New Year gifts for kids. Let's go a bit further.
The next set of shops offer herbs and other organic substances, which are aimed to improve
our health. Russians do believe a lot in things like that. So here you can find some different
drinks, creams, oils, gluten-free products, different types of oils. You can buy here chaga,
it's something like birch tree, wooden mushroom or something. Almost every Russian family has
countryside house with a garden and seeds for this garden can be found in many places, but on
the central market as well. This few shops selling plants for home. Almost every apartment in Russia
has some kind of room flower or small tree. I personally don't keep any because I'm never at
home. But when I was a kid, my mom had plenty of them and I had to water them. I really didn't like
the process. And the last shop I'm gonna show you indoors is a shop with flowers for gifts.
Ladies in Russia love to get those things and I do love as well. Here you can feel the vibe,
security is working, music is playing, some announcements are made. So this is central market.
So guys, it was an indoor tour and now we go outside and I'm gonna show you what we sell
on the open space. Well, today we don't have much here, just a few vendors.
Well, mostly the same, the Mongolian stuff. I'm gonna come back and show it here. And well,
in winter, of course, we have less people standing outside with their products because it's colder.
But right now actually it's minus 10, minus 8, which is super warm for our area. Anyway,
And actually good products here, meat, fish, chicken, fruits, vegetables are of a very good
quality. It's fresh. Usually we have lots of people who are doing shopping here. So the
customer flow is quite big. That's why food is always fresh. So we don't have any lack of
products. But the only problem is that everything is very expensive and it's getting more and more
expensive. Oh, the sun is gray today. Yeah. Everything is getting more and more expensive
nowadays because of obvious reason. Everyone knows and understand why. Anyway, we still have
everything we need. Yeah. I don't like actually this place because like long ago, there were
a lot of homeless people around, but now for the last 10 years, I don't know, they are gone. I
think they died or whatever happened. Anyway, now this area is more clean, more safe.
