[Music] welcome to guess or mess the game show by prageru kids I'm Noah and in this show if you answer a question fast and correctly you avoid getting totally gross and messy joining us today we've got Scott and I before coming here each of you read our prageru kids digital magazine about Grover Cleveland from our website now we're going to see how much of it you remember here are your messes is the 22nd and 24th President of the United States and the only president to serve two non-consecutive terms before he was President Cleveland worked as a teacher a lawyer and a sheriff Cleveland was nicknamed Grover the good because he was known for his honesty he believes the federal government should not be too powerful or spend too much money an economic depression ruined his second term but Cleveland stood by his principle of limited government are you ready to play the game yeah all right the youngest player goes first now everybody get your hands into the bowl now you're not allowed to take them out for the entire game if you do you lose a point got it got it all right our first question goes to Scarlett what did Grover Cleveland refuse to do as president even though people wanted him to do it a declare war B give more power to government or a c make New Mexico a state give more power to government that is correct he refused to give more power to government Cleveland strongly believes that Americans should be free to live our lives without government controlling us he said office holders are the Agents of the people not their masters see what we've got Arya humorous mess glitter goo you ew I don't think it's fun oh it's so sticky ah all over you oh my gosh it feels so weird it's kind of fun though right it's just so cold [Music] all done you want revenge yeah our second question goes to Arya what virtue was Cleveland known for even before he ran to a public office being honest that is correct Cleveland was known for his honesty Cleveland lived in a time when America was growing and becoming prosperous but many politicians were abusing their power to make themselves rich people voted for Cleveland because he was an honest man one of his sayings was whatever you do tell the truth oh ketchup and mustard [Music] so cold okay this is even colder mustard is more gross huh gross sound huh you're having fun yeah [Music] question three goes to Scarlett Cleveland's father was a church Minister but died when Cleveland was 16 years old what did Young Cleveland do a found a job as a teacher B join the Army or C ask the government for help found a job as a teacher that is correct he found a job as a teacher Cleveland's father died of a stomach ulcer so young Cleveland quit school and worked to support his family he took a job teaching at the New York yeah no all right at 22 years old Cleveland passed the bar exam in New York to become a what lawyer that is correct he passed the bar exam in order to become a lawyer Cleveland never went to college but he became a lawyer by studying the practice of law while working at a law firm in Buffalo New York it's our next one well this is a bad one [Music] it's mayonnaise foreign that got everywhere what something gross those are slimy clamps it smells so disgusting now back to Grover Cleveland our next question goes to Scarlett why did Grover Cleveland support the Democratic party a they supported Foreign Wars B they opposed the government spending or C they wanted election reform uh B that is correct they opposed the government's spending Cleveland stuck by his belief that the best type of government was small and fruitful meaning they didn't spend too much money to fix people's problems the Democrat Party of Cleveland's time was very different than today right Arya what's this next one yeah no it's not bad it's a mystery egg you know what's inside confetti Maybe oh baby it's just confetti [Music] the bad one next question goes to Arya how many years did it take Cleveland to go from mayor of the City of Buffalo to governor of New York to president of the United States three years that is correct it took him three years Cleveland was elected mayor of buffalo in 1881 became governor of New York state in 1883 and successfully ran for president in 1884. he was the first Democrat elected president in 30 years this means garlic that's the mess Oh yay yay [Music] you know what it's like slime like green slime it looks alive or something oh it feels nice nice yeah oh you like it yeah with ketchup and mustard and mayonnaise and clams kind of okay our next question goes to Scarlet as the President Cleveland fought wasteful spending and government corruption just as he did when he served as mayor and Governor name one way he fought corruption as president a he vetoed bills from Congress B he let the citizens vote on everything or see he refused to talk to anyone he vetoed bills from Congress that is correct he vetoed bills from Congress Cleveland vetoed more bills from Congress than any previous president avito is when a president refuses to sign a bill so that it does not become a law by doing this a president can stop bad laws it's one of the checks and balances in our American government that prevents one group from having too much power that means Arya gets the mess yay what is that dog food uh-huh I don't mind that you don't mind dog food no it's okay yummy you're playing with it why you're crazy now it's time for the final question this is an important one because whoever gets this question wrong gets a pie in the face and there's another twist you must hit your buzzer first in order to answer the question you ready yeah here we go when Cleveland lost his bid for re-election after being president what did he do a retired and opened a library B became governor of California or C worked as a lawyer in New York worked as a lawyer in New York that is correct he worked as a lawyer in New York Cleveland did not let the loss of an election discourage him he went back to his law business started a family and spent time fishing at his summer home in Massachusetts but he also waited patiently for the next election and ran for
