welcome to otto's tales story time
brought to you by prageru kids oh
otto
you and your tricks
well you're just in time
i'm jill and today i'm sharing a story
based on a parable from the bible now a
parable is a story that teaches a lesson
let's see if we can figure out what the
lesson in this story is
um
do you think you might be able to help
clean up the mess you made
let's read
the kind stranger
once upon a time
a very long time ago there was a
traveler who wanted to walk from
jerusalem to the nearby town of jericho
his journey would be a long one and
would take an entire day to travel by
foot
so he woke up early happily packed his
bags and off he went
as he ventured alone the path began to
change
the green trees and soft dust slowly
became a hard dry and desolate mountain
path he soon found he had to take his
steps with great care as the road was
windy narrow and very rocky
but he ventured on
after many hours of walking he grew
tired and stopped to rest on a little
rock beside the path and drink some
water
he was all alone
until
suddenly he heard wrestling from some
bushes behind him a gang of robbers
pounced on him and stole his bags and
clothing
before he even realized what had
happened they fled as quickly as they
appeared
everything he had was now gone
again he was alone now lying in the road
the heat from the sun was intense
his head and body were aching he was
thirsty and too weak to go any further
what was he going to do
soon
he heard footsteps coming up the path
someone is coming help help he cried out
lifting his head he could see a
respectable man in fine clothing
approaching
walking quickly towards him
he sees me
surely he will stop and help the
traveler thought
but as the stranger approached the
traveler he passed by on the other side
i'm running late he muttered to himself
too many important things to do
and he kept walking
neglecting the traveler's need for help
a little while later the traveler
spotted someone else coming down the
same road but to his surprise
the man scurried by without even a word
to him
will no one help
the traveler was beginning to worry as
he was now too weak to even stand up on
his own
as the sun began to set the traveler
heard more sounds
clip clop
clip clop
looking out into the distance he could
see someone riding a donkey had turned
the corner the injured traveler
stretched out his hand and waved to get
their attention
when the rider approached the traveler
immediately noticed that this stranger
was not a fellow countryman
nor one from his tribe
his clothing was unfamiliar and the
traveler became nervous that this
stranger was from an enemy land a
samaritan
the traveler was terrified because he
had been told that anyone from the land
of samaria was dangerous
surely this stranger will harm me if he
sees me the traveler tried to hide
himself in the bushes but the stranger
stopped
offered the traveler an open hand and
lifted him up
he poured medicine on his scrapes and
put him on his donkey
the two strangers then traveled down the
road together to the next town to safety
the following day the traveler asked the
stranger
how much do i owe you for rescuing me
from danger
nothing said the samaritan with a kind
smile
and from that day onward the traveler
remembered the good samaritan who
appeared as a total stranger
he learned that being a good neighbor
whether in word or deed
means not only helping those we know but
anyone in need the end
what a great story hey otto listen this
parable teaches us many things it yes
yes you're right it teaches us to not
judge others based on what we might
think about them without knowing them
and it also teaches
it's also a lesson based on the golden
rule found in the bible to love your
neighbor as yourself to treat others the
way you want to be treated and when we
say neighbor auto this means everyone
who might need us not just the friends
we already know got it
[Music]
if everyone followed this golden rule
imagine how happy everyone would be all
the time
