I'm sorry that Panda Patrol graphic
cracks me up every time.
Two pandas giant pandas are settling
in at the San Diego Zoo after
their journey from China.
And tonight we're getting our first
look at the panda pair here.
CBS 8 Pearson Holmes joins us live
with the latest on how well you
can trend and Ching Bauer adjusting
to their new habitat.
Pearson, you got two new posters of the guys.
Well, the guy and girl holding the posters
says I might be their biggest fan and
I hear that they are settling in
well here at the San Diego Zoo.
But we wanted to find out how much
the zookeepers have learned since
our new friends came to San Diego.
Take a look.
How excited are you guys to
see pandas at the zoo?
Really, really excited there.
One of my favorite animals.
What is your favorite thing about pandas?
That they're very soft and cuddly.
They're black and white and.
8 year old twins James and Grace
came with their mom Amity all the
way from Florida just to get near
the cute and cuddly pair.
We actually read when we were on our
way here that they're not quite
ready for their debut yet,
but we're here to support them anyway
and we want to see their pictures
and will continue to be excited
about them until they're finally
ready to be unveiled since their arrival.
The San Diego Zoo has worked with
Chinese experts to satisfy the
pandas dietary needs and preferences.
But while you in Chuan and Jean
Bauer get ready to officially
say hello to San Diego,
we wanted to see how much you know
about our new friends,
starting with their names.
Young,
swine and saying
Bo. Alright, so here are your pictures.
Can you pronounce that name for me?
I love that you said unicorn.
Can you tell me which one is the boy?
That one is bigger and.
And the thing the black around
its eyes are different.
I thought that the female was the male,
but now I see the very feminine face.
Then maybe the softer ears,
except she's got those teeth.
But us females we can be fierce.
So now I'm like feeling this.
Yeah, she now is four years old.
Her name means previous treasure
of prosperity and abundance.
Zoo officials say you can identify her
by her large round face and big fluffy.
Years in Chuan is almost five years old.
He's the boy you can tell by his long,
slightly pointed nose.
But how did kids at the zoo do
when it came to telling the difference?
Do you know the difference
between a girl panda and a boy panda?
Yes, what's the difference?
Girl pandas have babies.
Which one is a girl?
Which one's the boy?
Oh my gosh.
Why did you say this one was the girl?
Because I have a pink flower.
Yeah, we did kind of have some cues for him.
So this one is the boy.
This one is the girl.
And our new best friends
won't be available for public viewing
for several weeks at the zoo.
But when the zoo releases those dates,
will pass along that information
to you reporting for CBS 8.
I'm Kirsten Holmes with the new friends
back to you.
So no public viewing yet.
Kirsten, did you get a private
viewing of the pandas since you
went down there to do this story?
This is about as close to those
pandas as I could get,
and I'm just going to hold these posters
until we can actually see him.
