The Prince and Princess of Wales are preparing for a Christmas season unlike any before.
After settling into their newly chosen forever home, Forest Lodge, the couple,
alongside their children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis,
are about to experience their very first festive season,
just steps from some of Windsor's most enchanting holiday events.
The move from the modest Adelaide Cottage to the significantly larger Forest Lodge
marked a new chapter for the Wales family.
And this year, with Christmas approaching,
their new neighbourhood is buzzing with seasonal magic, right on their doorstep.
For many royal fans, the area surrounding Forest Lodge is already known for its charming Christmas tree spots.
But few realise that the family now lives only moments away
from one of Windsor's most captivating attractions,
the Great Windsor Park Illuminated Trail,
a glowing winter wonderland that has quietly become a local phenomenon since 2021.
Running from 14th November to 3rd January,
the illuminated trail transforms the landscape into a dazzling dreamscape
of sparkling forests, oversized glowing reindeer
and even a whimsical train installation that young visitors adore.
Huge, shimmering letters spelling Windsor greet guests in one of the trail's most photographed displays.
Visitors have flocked to Instagram to share their excitement,
calling the event the highlight of our festive season.
And so, so magical.
One commenter summed up the general sentiment,
This looks incredible. I need to go this year.
Whether the Wales family will attend remains a mystery.
The event is public and tends to draw crowds,
never an easy setting for a future king, his wife and three young children.
Even so, the trail is exactly the sort of wholesome, low-key outing
Catherine and William have enjoyed in the past.
In fact, in 2020, the family quietly visited the Illuminate Light Trail at Sandringham.
Their appearance sparked brief controversy due to the pandemic's strict rule of six
after they were spotted walking near Prince Edward's family.
Both households later clarified they had separate time slots
and maintained the required distancing.
Still, the visit demonstrated how much the children love these glowing storybook adventures.
Forest Lodge has its own rich history,
once serving as the home of the Deputy Ranger of Windsor Home Park until 1937.
When the move was confirmed,
families living in nearby cottages were relocated within the estate
and the house underwent internal and external updates,
paid for by the Waleses themselves.
Planning documents submitted in June show modest renovations and layout improvements
designed to make the residents comfortable for a modern royal family.
With eight bedrooms, double the space of Adelaide Cottage,
the house finally offers room for the family to grow into,
as royal insiders frequently describe it.
For the Wales children, who are happily settled at Lambrook School,
staying in the Windsor area provides both stability and privacy.
Hello!'s royal correspondent Danielle Stacey
believes the move signals a long-term commitment.
The Prince and Princess of Wales clearly love living in Windsor.
Upsizing to Forest Lodge gives them space, privacy and convenience.
It has already been considered their forever home,
rather than raising the children inside palace walls.
Royal observers have noted that William remains extremely protective of his children's home life.
He often uses alternative locations, such as Windsor Castle,
for official video calls, safeguarding the family's private residence from public view.
The move to Forest Lodge aligns perfectly with this philosophy.
Beyond their first Christmas at Forest Lodge,
the Wales family may have international celebrations ahead.
Multiple sources have revealed that senior members of the royal family,
including the Prince and Princess of Wales,
are expected to travel to the United States next year
to mark America's 250th anniversary.
Another major visit is reportedly in the works.
King Charles and Queen Camilla are said to have been invited to the United States in 2026,
with early discussions including a possible trip to the White House
at President Donald Trump's request.
If the plans materialize,
the next two years could see a series of highly symbolic Anglo-American visits,
moments likely to draw global attention.
